Outdoor activities will resume as the weather warms and conditions are safe. Stay tuned for information about local trail walks, picnics, games in the park and more in the next AAPS insert. In the meantime, consider that lifestyle is the new medicine.
Studies have shown those who eat healthy and exercise regularly have better sleep patterns, less anxiety and depression, more energy and less risk for chronic illness. Though advances in medical care have been remarkable, the best medicine is prevention via a healthy lifestyle. Here are the six pillars of lifestyle medicine: whole-foods and plant-based diet, exercise, restorative sleep, stress management, alcohol in moderation and social connections.
Q: My parents need help to remain at home. Are services available that could step in when I cannot be there or to give me an occasional break?
A: Yes. A licensed non-medical in-home care agency can provide companionship, light housekeeping, meal prep, transportation and more. Agencies are bonded and insured. There are also county directed services and benefits that provide these services, giving you the support and break you need so that you can continue to be a healthy and involved care provider.
Q: I sometimes need a ride to the doctor, grocery store or other places around town. Is there transportation available to me?
A: Yes. There are private, county and regional services that can help you with transportation needs. Contact Jodie at jmccann@highlandsranch.org or 720-240-4922.
