Growing in Faith – It’s What We’re About! How does Highlands differ from a regular summer camp you might ask? It’s because, in addition to being committed to safety and fun like other camps, at Highlands we are solidly committed to sharing the love of Jesus Christ in an outdoor setting. We feature Christ-centered daily Bible studies, worship, and campfire experiences led by our trained and expert staff. Our programs are enhanced by the beauty of God’s creation in which we are able to explore, learn, and grow. What sets Highlands summer camps apart is our goal of helping your child grow in faith and their relationship with God!

FAQ’s How are cabin assignments made? For the best camping experience, campers will be assigned to their cabin based on their selection of camp, roommate request, and appropriate grade entered as of fall 2014. Remember, if you request someone as a roommate, they must be participating in the same camp and also request to have you as a roommate. While we cannot guarantee your roommate request, we will work diligently to accommodate it. ...Continued on Page 4

FAQ’s continued...

When does the week begin and end? For most camps, registration begins at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Retreat Center. Please remember that we cannot allow early check-ins, as our staff will be busy preparing for an energizing time at camp. Parents are invited to join us for a concluding celebration service every Friday that begins with check-out at 4:00 p.m., then proceeds to dinner that begins at 5:00 p.m., and a Closing Celebration that finishes around 6:30 p.m. Camps that have different check-in and check-out times are noted in their descriptions.

Can I bring my pet to check-in or check-out? For the safety of your pet and other Highlands’ campers and guests, we request that you do not bring any pets to check-in or check-out. Thank you for your cooperation.

Meals? Our food service staff works very hard to provide delicious and nutritionally sound meals to all of our participants. We can accommodate vegetarians and other special dietary needs, which can be made on the participant health form. For planning purposes, these requests should be made at least 3 weeks prior to your camp date.

How do I contact my child?

Campers are encouraged to receive mail or e-mail. Send regular mail to the address below and e-mail (black text only with no pictures) to campermail@highlandscamp.org. All mail must include camper name and camp program to ensure delivery. Campers do not have regular access to a phone. We will make sure they receive your emergency phone messages. Camp Fees Your fees for camp provide an all-inclusive experience for your camper. All meals and snacks, lodging, activities, supplies, and a 5x7 group picture are included with your camp fees. No additional money is required for campers once they arrive. For those interested in purchasing a Highlands water bottle, t-shirt, or other memorabilia, our camp store will be open at both check-in and check-out.

T iered Pricing Realizing that families have different abilities to pay, Highlands has instituted a voluntary three-tier fee program. You may choose the tier that is most suitable for your family. It is really an honor system; you tell us what is affordable for your family. All campers receive the same Highlands experience no matter what they pay. For those families that cannot afford Tier 1, additional scholarship funds are available to ensure that all children have the opportunity to attend Highlands high quality summer camps! • Tier I: Is our historically subsidized rate and does not reflect the true cost of operating summer camp programs. • Tier II: Is our partially subsidized fee for those who can pay a little more, but still cannot afford the actual cost of camp. • Tier III: More closely accounts for the true costs of camp including wear and tear on building and grounds (Note that our Adventure Camps are still partially subsidized even at this tier). Our Goals for Tiered Pricing • To provide the highest quality programs possible • To serve all community income levels • To preserve camp for generations to come Again, please note that this program is VOLUNTARY and in no way influences the experience children receive, yet it offers the opportunity for families to take an active role in supporting the true cost of their child’s camp experience.

Discount Program If you love Highlands summer programs and want to share the experience with others, then share this brochure with your friends and family members. For EACH new first-time camper (outside your immediate family) that registers for Summer Camp, you will receive $25 off of your camp fees. Want to learn even more? Then check out our website (www.highlandscamp.org) to learn more about Highlands Camp Events! Page 5 Register Online

Quality Programming in a Safe Environment Staff: Quality staffing is an essential ingredient to a meaningful and safe camping experience. At Highlands, our staff is the main ingredient to providing an important and vital Christ-centered, faithbuilding, camping experience. We start by hiring only staff with a strong Christian faith who have clear talents, gifts, and calling to work with children and youth in an outdoor setting. To meet our high standards, staff undergo a criminal background check, and experience an extensive two week training period. Lessons in group-building techniques, leading effective Bible study, and age group development enable them to create a physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially safe environment. All staff members are American Red Cross Certified in First-Aid and CPR. Additionally, all of our program staff meet the national standards of instructor training by the respective governing board, which include such bodies as the National Association for the Development of Archery, American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction, etc. Licensure and Accreditation: Highlands is accredited by the American Camp Association and fully licensed as a residential summer camp by the State of Colorado. To maintain both of these accreditations, Highlands strives to provide the highest level of care and is committed to making sure that all of our participants enjoy a safe and quality program. Highlands prides itself on achieving a perfect score during the American Camp Association’s most recent accreditation visit. Health Care Administrator: Highlands will have available an on-site health care administrator who is trained in dispensing camper medications and attending to health related issues. In addition to this administrator, Highlands has partnered with a local, Board Certified physician who will be available for advanced medical consultation.
