Getting Your Library Card How do I get a library card?

Come to the library with your updated license, apartment lease, or piece of mail that has your name with a Clintondale, NY or Highland, NY address. You can apply for a card at the check out desk. You can also apply online at: highlandlibrary.org/librarycard.

Is there an age requirement for getting a library card?

No. Children and teens can get a library card. The only requirements are children must be able to write their first and last name and those under 14 years of age, require a parent or guardian signature with a current Highland Central School District address.

Why does my library card expire?

Library cards expire every 3 years to make sure patrons update their contact information. If your card does expire just come into the library to update your information and have your card renewed.

How do I apply for a library card online?

Complete the online form at highlandlibrary.org/librarycard and within 1-2 business days you will receive an email with your library card number and temporary PIN. This card can be used to access all of our e-content! E-books, downloadable audiobooks, streaming videos, databases, and more! Your physical card will be held at the library. You will need it only if you want to check out any physical items and borrow items from other libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System. To pick it up, simply stop in when the library is open with photo ID and address verification. Please contact the library with any questions.

How do I sign up to receive text notifications?

Login to your library account from www.highlandlibrary.org. Select “My Account” from the top right of the page. Choose “Edit” account. Enter your mobile number. Check the box to opt-in. Click ‘Submit” to save the change. You may opt-out at anytime by replying to any message with STOP. Can I replace my PIN if I forgot it?

Yes. From the library home page click on “My Account” in the page’s top right corner. Click on “Forgot Your PIN” then fill out your barcode and follow the steps to create a new PIN.

Mobile Library The Highland Public Library offers a mobile library to rehabilitation centers and assisted living facilities within our school district. Currently we are working with the Hudson Valley Rehab and Residence as well as Wingate at Ulster Communities. We offer bi-monthly visits with large print material and sound recordings for patron use. Each institute maintains a single library card which provides the organization with Mid-Hudson Library System access. This service is set up with cooperation between the institutions and the library.

Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising public awareness of library related matters, promoting use of the library and supplementing library services by ​expanding programming and activities.

How can I Help?

Become a Friend! A registration form can be found on our website, or you many pick one up at the Highland Public Library. www.highlandlibrary.org/friends

The Friends raise funds to help supplement costs for special programs and supplies for crafts programs for all ages. To provide these benefits to the library, the Friends hold book sales, raffles, and other fundraising activities like Touch a Truck and our annual Book Sale.

Meetings of the Friends of the Highland Public Library Board are held on the fourth Saturday of each month at 10:30 am.

History The Clintondale Branch is located in the 1811 Meeting House of the Clintondale Friends Church on the corner of Crescent Ave and Maple St. Library services in Clintondale began in 1984 as a way to extend and improve service to this part of the Highland Central School District. The branch opened in December 1989. What began as a outreach program with story hour has grown into a flourishing, active branch. Arlene McMahon is the branch manager and she is aided by library clerk, Toni Vinal.

Our Mission The purpose of the Highland Public Library is to connect community members of all ages with materials, programs and services which encourage lifelong learning, personal growth and enjoyment.
