Filming realistic combat scenarios is a substantial feat. Our team of experienced and decorated soldiers, trainers, thought leaders and weapons systems designers are here to help make the task less daunting. We approach each engagement with the highest level of excellence so that every actor, prop and scene portrays true-to-life combat sequences that will capture and thrill your audiences. To reach the level of excellence audiences expect, each detail must be considered. When it comes to historical depictions, count on us to tailor the particulars to align with specified geographical, cultural and historical contexts. For non-historical works, if you set the expectations – we will deliberately exceed them. WEAPONS SYSTEMS One of the first aspects to consider, when filming a combat scenario, is the authenticity of the weapons systems used. Systems featured on film must look, feel and perform as if they had been used in actual battle. Our vast inventory of historically accurate and futuristic weapons systems equip our customers with the props they need to get their job done.
We have four categories of weapons systems. Each one has its own particular use and legal restrictions.
LICENSED MACHINE GUN As a Class X license holder, Highgate Systems can legally acquire and sell live-fire machine guns. This means our customers have the ability to legally feature hard to come by machine guns for their project.
REPLICA GUN Our replica guns are realistic representations of actual guns. Replicas can be made out of a combination of rubber, resin and metal. The benefits of using replica guns are that they are cost effective, have little to no legal hassles and virtually remove safety considerations associated with live guns.
SIMULATED-FIRE MACHINE GUNS Using a mixture of oxygen and propane, simulated-fire guns mimic the actual fire of real machine guns. All mechanisms and capabilities associated with firing a round do not exist in these specialized systems. Our simulated fire machine guns are produced from high quality 6061 aluminum, steel and/or light weight alloy castings and machined parts. The reduced weight of our replicas relieves mounting stress on vehicles, aircraft, and replica handlers; especially in the case of the huge M-2 and MK-19 models.
BLANK-FIRE GUNS Non-lethal and realistic firing can be achieved through blank-firing guns. While these weapons are entirely genuine, they have been modified so that real bullets can not pass through the chamber; only blank rounds may be fired. The benefits of using blank-fire guns include having little to no legal hassles, and the safety considerations associated with live guns are virtually removed.
BATTLEFIELD EFFECTS Obtaining the right atmosphere is supreme when capturing a fast-paced combat scene on film. Highgate Systems has state-of-the-art battlefield effects to make any battle look and feel like the real thing. From IEDs and mine explosions, to RPGs and burning buildings, we have the equipment and diligent experts that will bring your combat scene to life. Our Battlefield Effects Specialists are meticulous in creating battle environments. Our experts manage the execution of violent, realistic and heart-pounding scenes, while keeping safety a primary focus.
CUSTOM WEAPON FABRICATION Sometimes, you need a gun that doesn’t exist. Or does it? Our team of Weapons Specialists have the knowledge and capabilities to make your vision tangible. Custom weapons are designed and created in our on-site fabrication laboratory. To make sure every detail meets our client’s exact specifications, Highgate Systems specialists combine computer-aided design and manufacturing with experienced craftsmanship.
WEAPON AND TACTICAL TRAINING When visually capturing authentic combat movements and tactical operations, everything must be taken into consideration. From how weapons are held, to the posture of combatants in large group movements, each detail of a battle has its own geographical, cultural and historical importance. We provide our customers with the expertise needed to ensure the mannerisms of an actor’s combat performance is precise. The military and operative backgrounds of Highgate Systems Subject Matter Experts vary. However, they each possess the needed insight and expertise it takes to train actors for combat movement, weapons systems use and battlefield strategy.
