A Level & GCSE Results Days
Thank you to the Y11 and Y13 students responding to our survey on the collection of exam results in the summer. As you are aware, due to the current situation and social distancing restrictions in place we are unable to run results days as normal this year. A small number of pastoral, exam office and senior staff will be available in school to hand out results on Thursday 13 August (A Level) and Thursday 20 August (GCSE) to those requesting this.

For students choosing to receive their results by email, we are aiming to send them all by 9am on the relevant results day. We will also provide details of how to contact the sixth form team to make an appointment if any additional support is required with University/Clearing or A Level option choices.
Students who would like to come into school to get their results will be invited in small groups and given a specific time slot. We will be in touch with students and parents/carers nearer the time, to confirm arrangements.
School Transport Update
If you have not already done so, please can all parents/carers complete the survey issued from Derbyshire County Council so they can look at what can realistically be done to get students to and from school in the new academic year.
By completing this survey the council will be able to plan for a September return. The survey asks about how your children got from home to school before the coronavirus pandemic, and how you think they will get to school in September. It also asks how your children could be encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to school.
The survey can be accessed below and closes on 31 July 2020: https://wh1.snapsurveys.com/s.asp?k=159431407337
We are in regular contact with Derbyshire County Council’s School Transport department and will inform all parents/carers on what the transport arrangements will be for the new school year later in the summer.
Summer optional activities and challenges
We have put together some optional activities and challenges for students to work on if they wish to over summer. There are some exciting things to do over the break with a huge range of interesting and unusual things to try. Hopefully there is something for everyone.
The activities have been emailed home and will be available on the school website on Monday.
There are ideas from many subjects to make each day a bit different.
GCSE and A Level Fine Art / Photography Kits
We have found that during lockdown in particular students taking GCSE/A level fine art or photography have struggled to get supplies to be able to continue their work.
With this in mind school has liaised with Turners Art based in Lumsdale Valley to provide top-up paints and subject kits to purchase. These kits are entirely optional and are not required, but have been offered to help students and parents/carers who would like to get equipment and material but are unsure of what to purchase.
Kits can be ordered from Turners and delivered home (postage will be charged) or they can be collected free from their premises (Turners Art, Integrity House, Lumsdale Road, Lower Lumsdale, Matlock DE4 5EX). School does not deal with the ordering or money collection – all transactions are directly with Turners Art.
The full details of the kits are given below and are available on the Turners Art website under the school kits menu – Highfields School (https://www.turnersart.co.uk/cp/Highfields-School-MatlockKits-2020.asp)

My Life, My View survey for Y8-11

Highfields School, along with several others, has agreed to participate in a very important wellbeing survey for young people in Derbyshire. My Life My View is an online survey which collects information about how young people are feeling and what they are doing, including: what young people are concerned about, whom they speak to when they are worried, and what behaviours young people engage in to help them feel well and able to cope.
The survey questions cover a range of topics, including: Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people’s lives Home and family Emotional health and well-being Tobacco, alcohol and drugs Relationships
The survey is provided by the Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) and is commissioned by Derbyshire County Council for young people in year 8 to year 11. The survey has been running in schools for five years, providing the following benefits for young people and schools: Young people have the opportunity to raise issues and access support services Young people can contribute to local understanding of emotional health and wellbeing issues, to help inform local services Schools will receive individual reports to gain a better understanding of issues affecting young people and of support services available Findings can support schools in planning PSHE programmes.
The survey findings will also support Derbyshire County Council to plan services to support young people.
Students in Y8-11 have been sent the online survey link today via their school email along with a guide on how to complete the survey. Parents/carers will have received a copy of this information via email too.
If your child is participating in the survey at home, please provide an hour of private time for them to complete the survey, if possible.
