Geography and Travel and Tourism Fieldwork Masterclass
What a way to round off a very busy term of geography fieldwork! We were treated to a fabulous group of year 9 students, an awe-inspiring location and beautiful weather – a heady combination!
Today was our inaugural masterclass, combining a range of fieldwork skills appropriate to both subjects run by the geography department. We recognised that following last summer’s lengthy lockdown, our year 9 students had missed out on the fieldwork opportunity presented by our Carsington fieldwork, and for those embarking on GCSE and BTEC specifications we were very keen to put this right.

The students learnt about different ways of sampling data and collected data using quantitative and qualitative techniques, including measuring the extent of footpath erosion along one of the popular routes out of the village for walkers. We had a well-earned lunch in Cave Dale where students appreciated the beauty of the distinctive limestone landscape and needless to say, the day was rounded off with some amazing-looking ice creams!
