Y11 food preparation and nutrition students are required to go straight to C9 rather than form on the morning of their practical exam. Please be prompt.
On the day students must have with them:
Ingredients/accompaniments for their chosen three dishes An apron Time plan Some students may wish to bring a specific piece of equipment/crockery with them.
Practical exams are taking place on Monday 24 February (x8 students) and Tuesday 25 February (x9 students). Students are aware of the date of their exam.

Y11 Highfields Hustle workshop for families Wednesday 11 March 2020 (6-7pm), Wheeldon Hall
There is a bit of a buzz about Y11 at the moment as many students are revising very effectively and it looks like they are in line to achieve some very impressive individual results.
Many of the students who appear to be in a strong position have adopted, with the support of their families, a revision strategy which we call the ‘Highfields Hustle’. This has been based on a wealth of recent research into the most effective approaches to revision. By adopting these students can ensure that they are making the best use of their precious time.
We delivered a ‘Highfields Hustle’ briefing to a small pilot group of families earlier in February. The feedback has been extremely positive and so Mr Cole and I are offering a second session as above. Parents/carers who attended the last session praised the ‘Hustle’ for a being a clear, no nonsense approach to revision which families could easily support.
Please email kalcock@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk by Friday 6 March 2020 if you would like to book a place at this event. We will then assess whether there is sufficient/too much demand and respond accordingly.
Please remember that a family’s support for children’s revision can make a HUGE difference to exam success and therefore to the range of options open to your child as they leave Y11.

Y9 vaccinations – 25 February 2020 Teenage Booster and Meningococcal ACWY (MEN ACWY)
As you will be aware year 9 students will be vaccinated for the Meningococcal ACWY (Men ACWY) vaccine and the Teenage Booster vaccine on Tuesday 25 February.
If you have not yet given your consent, please can you ensure you do so before Tuesday to allow your son/daughter to be immunised. You can do this through the following link:

The option to consent or decline the vaccination is at the end of the questionnaire so please complete even if you do not want your child to have the vaccination. Year 10 parent consultation evening reminder 3 March 2020 at Lumsdale:
As you are aware the year 10 parents evening is on Tuesday 3 March 2020 in the sports hall at Lumsdale (upper school site) between 4pm and 7pm.
During the evening you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with subject teachers. I would encourage you to bring your son/daughter to this meeting so that they can contribute to the discussion. This is an invaluable opportunity at this crucial point in your son/daughter’s education to celebrate successes and gain advice on how your son/daughter can succeed in their course.
I will be there as Head of Year 10 so please talk to me about any issues that you may have. Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing you at parents’ evening.
