Sports leaders and St Josephs
Last Friday, 11 February, our year 12/13 sports leaders led activities for St Joseph’s Primary School students in years 3 and 4.
Staff from St Joseph’s were very impressed with the leaders and remarked how they could see the progress they and their pupils had made over the two visits they had made to Highfields.

Judo
Last Friday we held the penultimate session of Judo for our year 8 girls. Students took part in activities to build a strong core and teamwork and they were very engaged in all activities.
The group learnt a new move – see photo below showing coach Andy modelling this move for the students.

All these moves are broken down into steps for the students to learn. The sessions always end in fights and over the last four weeks students have been receiving recognition with R2/3s. The last session was held today and a final report will be in the next newsletter.
On Monday Highfields hosted the SSP Primary Schools (small schools) Basketball Tournament after school.
Results were as follows: 1st - Crich Carr (who go onto the County Finals at Alfreton Leisure Centre on 22 March) 2nd - South Darley 3rd - Eyam 4th – Wessington
Well done to Jenson, Tom, Matteo and Henry who were our year 9 sports leaders officiating at the event – they were absolutely brilliant!

SSP Sports Hall Athletics Finals
The SSP sports hall athletics finals took place at Highfields on Wednesday. Highfields sports leaders who had been trained in December by England Athletics coach, Adam Burgess, officiated the event.
During the morning students attended from Winster, South Darley, Clifton and Stanton for the small schools finals. Stanton came 1st, Winster 2nd, Clifton 3rd and South Darley 4th .
The afternoon saw students from Darley Dale, All Saints, Osmaston, Ashbourne and Lea participate in the large schools event. Lea came 1st, Osmaston 2nd, Darley Dale 3rd, All Saints 4th and Ashbourne 5th .
The afterschool event involved year 7 and 8 secondary school students from Highfields, Lady Manners, Queen Elizabeth’s and Anthony Gell. Our sports leaders were brilliant keeping excellent energy levels after a full day of officiating.

Well done to everyone who took part and enjoyed the event and to Lea Primary who go on to represent SSP at the county final.
England netball training
England netball coach, Val Kindred, was in school on Thursday training our sports leaders in officiating High 5 netball, in readiness for the primary school competition on 10 March.
