Message from the headteacher
I’m not a great fan of using this bit in the newsletter to deal with notices but I’m very worried that one of our Starkholmes children will get hurt soon. Please note the message below, something similar to which has gone out via every comms tool and app we have over the last 6 months:
A small but significant number of parents/carers continue to drop off students in the bus stop or staff carpark at Starkholmes creating congestion and hazardous conditions for young people. Please see highway code rule 243 (https://theorytest.org.uk/hwc/highway-code/rule-243.html): “DO NOT stop or park near a school entrance anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank” It is a matter of time before motorists’ behaviour at Starkholmes causes a serious accident. The police are now working with us to increase safety. We again ask that you drop your child away from school and leave them to walk the final two minutes or so. This is good for them, the environment and the safety of students alighting buses and arriving on foot.

If parents/carers require access to the school site based on physical need, please contact Mr Hodkin, Assistant Headteacher/SENCO. Highfields School
Thank you helping to keep our students safe.
In lessons this week Harvey and Ava wowed their history teacher and fellow students with this work on famous people from Derbyshire (Joseph Wright, Florence Nightingale and George Stevenson to name but three).
I took a picture of an aced maths test on percentages from Jacey E in Y8 but she didn’t seem happy about it being in the newsletter. Doesn’t stop me from thinking she’s brilliant though. YOU ARE BRILLIANT, JACEY.
And finally when two Y7s fell out we decided to settle the matter by a sword fighting duel (OK then… it wasn’t a duel - it was just fencing training).
Stay warm and cosy this weekend if you can. Seven more thrilling school days to enjoy before we’re forced to take a break for Christmas. Hang on to your hats!
We are Highfields. A Marsh, Headteacher
