PRIMARY SCHOOL SESSIONS Rocket Out of this World - Create your own illustrations on draw-on tables, put hands on exploration bins and spend time in our Maker Space. (Brainstormers Lab)

Read, Relax, Repeat - Browse our awesome children’s collection of books in the reading loft, a swinging hammock or a cozy curl-up spot. (Media Center)

Discovery & Exploration - Meet the PK3 teachers and explore with light tables, sensory and building activities. (Room #5)

Winter Wonderland Workshop - Come experience the fun and magic of fine motor and STEM exploration in PK4: constructing cup towers and working with peppermint play-doh! (Room #4)

Under the Sea - Check out our fine motor underwater letter practice, ocean books and deep sea drawing and say “Hi” to the class fish! (Room #2)

Kindergarten Creation Station - Create holiday crafts with the Kindergarten Teachers! You will meet new friends and have an opportunity to see the Kindergarten classrooms! (Room #7)

Music, Music Everywhere! - Ready to shine on stage? Want to explore some instruments? Join us for some puppet and music fun! (Room #10)

Moving, Making and Shaking - Students will decorate “shaking” ornaments and explore color and creation while enjoying some fun tunes! (Art Studio)

Meet the Primary School Principal - Stop by for conversation with the Primary School Principal Mary Quarles and snag a cookie to go! (Betsy Brown Activity Room)

Books and Bears Hunt- Explore the various sections of the brand new library with a Library

Scavenger Hunt. Find different items and types of stories throughout the library and record your findings on a checklist. (Media Center)

That’s Show-biz: We’ve Got Magic To Do! - Feel like acting up? Come experience a day in the life of a Theatre Arts student! Be ready to get on your feet and have some fun in this interactive session. (Black Box Theatre)

Creating Electric Circuits - Brighten your day in the science lab as we learn about electrical circuits and see if you can light up your inner Edison! (Science Lab/Room 013)

I Code, You Code, We Code - Explore the world of coding with Beebots and Sphero Bolts. (Innovations Lab/Room 014)

STEM Christmas Tree Challenge - Join us for a fun Christmas challenge! Can you construct a Christmas tree that stands on its own using only pipe cleaners? (Room 108)

Dive Into Design Thinking - Calling future engineers! Construct a bridge using Legos. Watch and learn from others to see how students can build the same structure in various ways. (Room 116)

Fun with Math! - Show and sharpen your third-grade math skills while having fun! Learn how Singapore math instruction is interactive, engaging and appealing to all! (Room 110)

Math Mania - Think outside the box with fourth grade as you discover the many solutions to various math concepts. Featuring hands-on activities, technology and fun math games! (Room 208)

Fifth Grade Showcase - Calling all rising fifth graders! Learn about life as the SENIOR of the Lower School. (Room 212)

Lower School 101 - Come SEE and LEARN and be CURIOUS about life in the Lower School. (Makerspace) We’re GooGoo for GAGA - Want to learn a new sport on our amazing playground? Learn and play this action-packed, high-energy sport. Come play in our octagonal pit. (Playground)

Lower School Meet and Greet - Stop by and meet the Administrative Team as you enter and leave the Open House. We are here to help with any questions or wonderings! (Lower School Lobby)


MIDDLE SCHOOL SESSIONS

Together We are Better: Art Collaboration - Come learn more about the middle school visual arts pro-

gram in our immersive art studio! A group of HIES Middle School students will be on hand to work shoulder-to-shoulder with you and your students on a collaborative piece! (Middle School Art Studio)

A Deep Dive with the Deans - Come get to know grade-level deans Parker Conley, Maureen Danzig and Kristen O’Brien as you learn more about the Middle School. (Room 202)

Scope Out Science - Attendees will enjoy the opportunity to explore science across all three grade levels in this stations-centered session. Microscopes will be available for viewing, in addition to our composting tank and a chemical station. (Room 305)

The WOW FACTOR of World Languages - Come see the way World Language is taught in the Middle

School at HIES! Attendees will take on the role of Spanish students in the most fun and engaging language-learning experience ever and will leave with a practical and high frequency terms they can use in the real world. Though this session is taught in Spanish, it allows participants to feel the experience of all language learners here at HIES. (Room 310)

3D Modeling and Printing - Want to try your hand at 3D modeling and take home a bit of HIES? Experience the design process in Tinkercad and take home your very own unique HIES souvenir! (Collaboratory)

A Day in the Life of an HIES Middle School Student - Hear firsthand from current HIES students about their Middle School experience, moderated by our Middle School Principal, Dr. Matthew Laliberte. (Been Media Center)

Discover the Athlete in You - Join Athletic Director, Tony Watkins, for a comprehensive look at athletics at HIES, and hear about the many paths to becoming a distinguished student athlete. (Main Gym)

Discover the Author in you! - Join us for a writers’ roundtable as we create stories together inspired by novels we read in our middle school english classes. (Room 205)

much more! Discover the HIES Global Citizenship Program, Round Square Network and the many ways HIES creates global citizens. (Humanities 205)

Be the Media - Explore our state-of-the-art Broadcast Journalism suite. Direct a news show from our control room. Get a weatherman’s view of the world in front of our green screen. Read the breaking news on the teleprompter while sitting behind the anchor desk. (STEM Broadcast Suite)

A Day in the Life of an HIES Upper School Student - Coming from a public school? Another private

school? Home-schooled? Coming from an online program? Discover how students THRIVE in the Upper School at HIES. (Humanities 102)

Discover the Artist in You - Want to be a musician? A thespian? Build a stage? Come learn about how HIES is a destination school for the arts! (Humanities 102)

PEAK Institute and Immersive Screen - The PEAK Institute - The newest experiential learning program at HIES. Learn how students explore and discover their passions and step into our massive immersive virtual reality screen to enhance student learning. You won’t want to miss this! (Groesbeck 400)

College Counseling - From HIES Freshman to College Freshman - Learn about our College Counseling program and how we guide students in their college search and application process, helping students find the college there they will thrive. (Humanities Media Center)

Everyday Engineering - Walk through an engineering design challenge that will highlight the core pillars of our design process and the ways in which these principles are valuable for problem solving for everyone everywhere. (STEM 700)

Creative Minds at Work - Watch visiting artist Britt Spencer work on our school mural and visit with US Visual Art Faculty to learn more about our program. (STEM Dining Hall)

Visit www.hies.org and create an applicant profile on Ravenna. Student evaluations/interviews may be scheduled through Ravenna. Primary, Lower and Middle School admission evaluations and Upper School interviews are open for registration in Ravenna. They will take place in January and February. Student visit days (Rising 2 - 12 grades) are open for registration in Ravenna through mid-February. Application Deadline for all divisions is Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024.
