The Fire Museum of Texas traces the history of fire service in the state of Texas and Beaumont in particular with engaging exhibits, fun hands-on activity areas and the exhibition of historic apparatus. The oldest apparatus in our collection is a 1856 Howe Hand Drawn Tub Pumper. Also on display are a 1909 Ladder truck that was used by the Beaumont fire department and a 1931 REO Light Truck. Designed and built by Beaumont fire department personnel in the historic Beaumont Central Fire Station (current location of the museum) the Light Truck was the first of its kind. It responded to numerous disasters in its 50 year career including the 1937 New London School Disaster and the 1947 Texas City Explosion. The Children's Activity center set the standard for hands-on fire learning displays with its miniature two story house and interactive exhibits that teach children and families about fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency. The museum offers free tours to schools, home school groups, and Boy and Girl Scout groups. Birthday parties are available, please call or visit our website for more information. The museum is FREE, and donations are accepted. Annual Fire Prevention and Family Safety Festival Date: October 5, 2013. 11-3pm. This event is FREE
