Trying to juggle raising three kids on my own with baseball games, homework (my kids and my own), school functions, doctor’s visits, and workout schedules while holding a fulltime 9-5 job made life crazy and nearly impossible at times! A few months ago, I decided it was time for a change and took the leap to become a MOMpreneur. Was it scary? Yes! But I knew I had to do it for myself and my children. I decided to use my passion for print journalism and design and start this magazine. In addition, I saw opportunity with ItWorks! to spread the word about their health, beauty, and wellness products so others could benefit from their use. Choosing MOMpreneurship was the best choice I’ve ever made! If you’re considering taking the leap, here’s some advice to help you on your journey: Research - Think about what you are good at and do your research! Set Realistic Goals & Plan Make sure your goals fit within your lifestyle and create a plan to achieve them. Give yourself the best chance to be successful! Create A Schedule - Plan your week to maximize your time and minimize stress. Be sure to keep a healthy balance of work, family and time for yourself! Ask For Help - Ask friends, family, neighbors as well as networking groups and small business organizations. Follow Your Dreams - You owe it to yourself and you’ll teach your kids a valuable lesson!

12 Training Tips For Fat Loss RESISTANCE TRAINING 1. Train your whole body in one 40-50 min. workout, 3 times per week. 2. Get your body fat tested and take
your tape measurements before you start your program. For the first 4-8 weeks you will be adding muscle almost at the same rate that you are losing fat. Therefore, you should not use the scale to judge your progress!
3. Women shouldn’t worry about getting “too bulky.” At first, your arms & legs will stay about the same size, but may feel “bulkier” because of the added muscle. Don’t back off the weights! You will hit a limit on how big your muscle can get (due to lack of testosterone) by the end of the 2nd month. From there on, all your training will simply maintain muscle size and contribute to fat burning. 4. There is no such thing as “spot reduction.” For example, working your abs hard on the crunch machine will not specifically target belly fat. Using a “thigh master” device will not reduce the fat on your inner thighs. You will burn more fat doing compound, whole body exercises such as lunges and push ups than you will doing isolation exercises. 5. The real benefit of resistance train-
ing is not the amount of calories burned during the workout, but the amount of calories your body burns for the rest of the day after the workout. Your metabolism stays elevated for up to 39 hours after an intense resistance training session, compared to 1-2 hours after a moderate aerobic workout.
6. It is important to completely change your program parameters frequently, or your body will quickly adapt to the stimulus and stop changing. A reputable trainer can design a variety of programs that will shock your body to the next level of fat loss.
AEROBIC TRAINING 7. If your main concern is fat loss, aero-
bic exercise should be done 4-6 times per week, for 20-45 minutes depending on your fitness & endurance level.
8. The most productive fat burning
cardio sessions will be right AFTER resistance training, or first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Don’t

waste time & energy doing cardio BEFORE weight training (other than a brief warm up).
9. Within 8 min. of the start of your ses-
sion, your heart rate should be at 65% of its maximum. For the rest of your session, it should remain between 65%-85% of max. predicted heart rate. (MPHR=226-age.)
10. The average person does not begin burning a significant amount of energy from fat until they have performed about 20 min. of continuous activity in their target heart rate zone. 11. Advanced exercises can get around the 20 min. requirement by performing interval training: short bursts of high intensity activity followed by a recovery phase of medium intensity work. This type of interval training generally burns more fat in less time. 12. The biggest mistake people make is doing the same mode of cardio (treadmill, bike, etc.) for weeks and months on end. The body adapts within a few weeks to any aerobic stimulus. You must vary your mode of cardio and use a progressively more challenging program for continual fat loss. Q: Why did you start your own business? A: We had just had our daughter and we wanted a business that our whole family could be part of. We also wanted a business where we could add value to our community and help others. PostNet of Lakewood Ranch was a perfect fit. Q: What is your favorite part about running PostNet of LWR? A: Hands down our customers and clients. Some come in for just a copy or to mail a letter. Others become part of our lives and allow us to partner with them to help grow the business they love. Planning in advance helps. Family events get scheduled first and I plan time blocks for the unexpected. If nothing comes up, I have more time for me or to schedule coffee with a new client or someone new I’ve met networking. I know I can’t do it all and I want to add value to where I spend my time, not just rush from event to event. Q: What are your greatest achievements? A: My daughter wins hands down.
