In Memoriam: Graham Leroy Lail, Jr. and Laura Lynn Mull Lail

2024 brought great sadness to Hickory Furniture Mart with the passing of both its founding owners, Graham “Leroy” Lail, Jr. and Laura “Lynn” Mull Lail. Lynn and Leroy were prominent leaders, not only in Hickory and Catawba County, but also throughout the state during their lifetime of service. They both contributed immensely to placing Hickory on the map. Their vision of what Hickory and Catawba County could be, shaped the development of what it eventually would be today.

Lynn and Leroy both grew up in very strong, supportive families where their parents inspired them to always work hard for their families and their communities. Most importantly, they were encouraged to let education lead the way to a lifetime of learning. These guiding principles, instilled into them at a very young age, emphasized the importance of forging genuine and lasting relationships and partnerships both personally and professionally. Throughout their lives, they often referenced the philosophy

“A rising tide, floats all boats”. Individually they were each dynamically driven, but together they were an invincible force. Lynn and Leroy’s mutual respect and trust for one another was part of their strong and supportive partnership that lasted for over 62 years.

Their Legacy Lives On

With their passing, their legacy will live on and prosper through the strength and resilience of the family they raised as one of their proudest achievements in life. They will forever be missed and remembered by so many whose lives and communities they touched along the way

Leroy authored several books, most notably Win/Win, his philosophy in business and in life. Win/Win is published by Red Hawk Publications and may be purchased onsite at The Graceful Geese Mercantile, located on Level 1 at the West Entrance in their local author section. A personal thanks to Richard Eller for his help in making this book come to life and providing many of the photos and information represented in our historical timeline on the adjoining page.
