01 OASIS

SUSTAINABLE RESIDENCE COURSE: Architectural Design Studio VI INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Abdellatif A Qamhaieh LOCATION: Dubai, UAE YEAR: Spring 2019

The building design features green terraces with hanging trees on the facade, and the water bodies at the center of the courtyard ground. All apartments are arranged surrounding the central courtyard; with their unique dual view, with one overlooking to the street and the other one overlooking to the courtyard. Circulation between the apartments is through cantilevered corridors that overlook the shaded courtyard.

Zoning

Going up from one floor to another, the project floor plans are rotaed 180 degrees.

This rotation form the design principle for the project elevations, and the horizontal circulation between the appartements without entrupting the MEP linear building systemor the linearity of the vertical circultion.

Connect the program spaces

The project ai is to construct an urban program that is open, inviting and sustainble.

Most of the ground floor area of the site is assigned for pedestrians, and a crucial part of the program is the ‘central multifunctional space’ to allow interactions of the program residents. The program features elevated accessible gardens in multiple levels that acts as a transit from private to semi-public to public. Via multiple spaces that are provided in the program, the health, wealth and well being of the residents is achieved.

The main concept of this project is to achieve ‘Health, Wealth, and Well being’ all within a ‘Loop’ design. The project program here both that is indoor and outdoor is arranged along the main circulation loop. Pedestrian , vehicular, and bicycle circulation all arranged within this loop also. This strategyenhance the overall security of the compound occupants and the sustainable awarness for vehicular polution.

In the city of Bou Saada in Algeria, a traditional exhibition of horsemanship performed during cultural festivals and for wedding celebrations is called ‘Fantasia’. This Algerian tradition was the main derive for the project concept. The project is based on the concept of connections, connecting the exterior to the interior and connecting the old cultural traditions with today’s world, while solving the problems of our site.

This concept is reflected in the project diverse urban program.

The link is a project designed to house rentable office spaces and shared workspace.

The design concept of the link is derived from the project site. Located in the old side of Dubai, in ‘ Al Fuhaidi’ , the link represent how today’s major developments of Dubai all started from a simple comunity with the creek as the focal trade area and expatriate arrival zone. The builing form generation reflect this history of dubai where the building base is simple mass that supports the multiheight office masses on top. This base also specifies the principles of both horizontal and verical circulation thoughout the building.

This thesis takes a theme that studies cultural diversity in Dubai and the community’s response to it. Where more than eighty-five percent of Dubai’s total population consists of expatriates and migrants, they were the base for the innovation and development that Dubai witnessed in the past thirty years. This thesis tackles how the diversity of cultures, especially in highly populated areas, help the overall community tolerance and development. The thesis intends to reveal the potential links that will amplify the individual’s expression in the physical world influencing the community’s interconnectedness through both cultures and culturally shared architectural elements. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate the ability of architecture to respond to Dubai’s cultural diversity and help its people find a sense of unity while having variant costumes, cultures, senses of place, and memories.

Although all the religious buildings in Jebel Ali Village fall under one name that is the religious Built Program complex, the site lacks the sense of unity within the complex itself, and the connection between the complex and its surrounding. The objective of this project is to connect the religious complex with its surrounding in an attempt to create a unity between the religious buildings.

With the aid of channel mixer, the snow white color is more enhanced, and with gausian blur, and motion blur filters, the snow fall effect is created.

The steps in creating these renders is by croping out the day background, and replacing it with the effects of a night sky along with solid color adjastement, adjusting vibrance and brightness, these render renders are achieved.
