spoil someone this V a l e n t in e s d a y By EMMY BAILEY With Valentines Day the following weekend, there are perfect gifts right in the area of Orlando. Make this Valentines Day a special one and create special memories. “It is a chance to give something to someone you care about,” sophomore Angel Pabon said. Forty-three million Americans got an unwanted Valentines Day gift in 2019, with a total of $9.5 billion spent on unwanted gifts. To not make this mistake, shop smart and look into the options listed on this page. “Orlando has originality. I think local shops are part of what makes Orlando so special. I love shopping locally because I love supporting local businesses. It’s hard work to start a business. Whether it’s a clothing store, a store with fun knick knacks, a record store, or a restaurant, it takes a lot of time, effort and money for a person to create. Supporting those local business help keep the unique spirt of Orlando alive,” AP Environmental Science teacher and senior class sponsor Lisa Maccarone said. Valentines Day is beneficial for small businesses, with a 9% increase in local internet searches around the holiday. Lovebirds looking for the perfect gifts can find them by shopping local, at three of the options listed: In Bloom Florist, Canvas Restaurant & Market and Good Crowd. “I love a local shop called The Lovely. It is my all-time favorite store. It has clothes, knick-knacks, records, jewelry, and more. I also love the story. It a great little shop if you are looking for gifts for a friend [or yourself],” Maccarone said. Despite one’s price range, gifts exist for any budget. “This year my boyfriend and I will most likely meet up at a park and give each other whatever goodies we got for each other and just hang out, take some pictures and just enjoy each other’s company,” senior Mandy Dyer said. To find gifts that the receiver will remember for a lifetime, check out businesses and see what they have to offer.
