Meet Lisa Duckett!
Lisa started volunteering at Hospitality House of Tulsa a year ago when her sister, a surgeon at Hillcrest, recommended it.
Since retiring from a career as an internal medicine doctor in August of 2021, she has prioritized faith as her top goal by serving others through different volunteer and church activities.

Once a week, Lisa spends a couple of hours at Hospitality House writing prayer cards, responding to prayer requests from families staying with us. She takes time to pray and listen to the Holy Spirit as she writes, decorating them with stickers to make them colorful and happy.
We asked Lisa a few questions about her volunteer experience. Read her thoughts below!
Why did you decide to start volunteering?
I want to be productive with my time and I get so much joy from helping other people. Just knowing that I could make someone else's life easier, happier, or just put a smile on their face is important to me. It helps me to give to others in a way that is unique to me.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at HHT?
The staff I work with [They are an] awesome team that helps one another and takes care of each other The delightful people I have met by sitting in the common area and writing cards has also been a real treat It provides insight into the lives of those that are staying at HHT and their circumstances
Tell us about a time that was especially meaningful for you as a volunteer.
I have been stopped by people that say thank you for the cards One lady got very emotional when she read the card I wrote and started crying but assured me that God is in charge and she was doing well emotionally despite the issues that she and her son were dealing with.
What has been the biggest surprise about volunteering here?
Getting to know the staff and the guests has been a treat. I have been surprised by the places in Oklahoma people come from that I have never heard of: Okay, OK is one example.
If you could encourage someone else to volunteer at HHT, what would you say?
It is fun and the work is not difficult The environment is positive and each of the staff is kind and appreciative of the work the volunteers do It is a team built on respect and commitment
Tell us some fun facts about yourself:
[I have] two sisters and one brother, we are a close family and still vacation annually together My mother is turning 90 next month and you would never know it My hobbies include cycling, hiking, running, and pickleball I love to laugh and give the staff at HHT a hard time as much as I can Ha! Ha!
