HALF HOLLOW HILLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Parent Training Workshop Schedule 2012-13 As part of our district’s ongoing initiative to provide quality services for children with special needs, we are offering a series of parent trainings. HALF HOLLOW HILLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Parent Training Workshop Schedule 2012-13

---------------------------------------------------------------Behavior Support Plans I: Functional Assessment Friday, October 12 10:00am-11am This two-part training will break down the process of developing behavior support plans from functional assessment through maintenance of a behavior support plan.

In Part I, participants will learn various methods for assessing behaviors, taking baseline and analyzing the data needed to develop a plan.

Behavior Support Plans II: Developing a Behavior Plan Wednesday, October 17 3:00-4:00pm The second part of this training will continue the process of developing a behavior support plan. Data from the functional assessment process drives the development of strategies that make up an effective behavior support plan. Each component of a behavior support plan will be covered in-depth. Participants will have the opportunity for question and answer regarding both parts of the training.

Adaptive Daily Living Skills Wednesday, November 14 2:30-3:30pm This training will provide participants with relevant skills for children to learn based on their age in order to improve quality of life and independence.

Participants will learn how to incorporate teaching independent skills into daily life at home. Strategies and prompting will be reviewed. Participants will have the opportunity to develop a teaching program for their child with guidance.

---------------------------------------------------------------Effective Prompting Strategies Wednesday, November 28 10:00-11:00am Effective prompting strategies are crucial in skill development across all areas from academic tasks to social skills and daily living skills. Participants will learn to how choose, implement and fade prompts based on the skill they aim to teach.

USING VISUAL SUPPORTS Wednesday, December 12 10 am -12pm Many students with autism benefit from the use of visual supports throughout the day. Visual supports eliminate the need for repeated verbal prompts and make support easier to fade. This training will provide participants with strategies on how to develop, implement and fade visual supports across a variety of situations.

Activity Schedules Thursday, January 17, 2013 10:00am-11am Activity schedules can be a useful tool for children with autism during many different activities, from planning leisure time to completing the morning routine and scheduling a trip into the community. This training will provide participants with strategies for making and using schedules for children with varying needs and abilities. Strategies from the task analysis, visual support and prompting trainings will be incorporated into this training
