We hope that you will join us for our special event featuring presentations on topics related to the cost and preparation for college, navigating through high school, utilizing Naviance in the college planning/college search, special needs and athletics.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS: (7:10-7:55PM & 8:15-9:00PM) “The Top 5 Mistakes Students Make on Their College Essays” Guest Speaker: Randy Levin





NAVIANCE- (Session I, II, III) This workshop will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the Naviance website, a program that can help students make decisions about courses, colleges and careers. Learn how to navigate NAVIANCE for college profiles, majors & scholarships. (Computer Lab- 2nd Floor– Outside of Library)

The Junior Year- (Session II & III)

Gain insight into the importance of the junior year and its implications for the college application process. Discussion will include: standardized testing (ACT/SAT); the transcript, recommendation letters, resume, school visits, college essay and the Common Application. (Room 176)

WORKSHOPS: 

Overview of Grades 9 & 10-

(Session I, II, III) This workshop will focus on the steps taken to assist 9th and 10th graders in developing a strong working relationship with their counselor; gaining insight into the new grade weighting system; graduation requirements; building a resume of activities.

(High School West Auditorium) WORKSHOP SESSION III

Student Athlete and NCAA-

(Session I & III) Gain insight into the process of how a student athlete qualifies to play sports in college. Understand the differences between Divisions I, II, & III. Learn about athletic scholarships and the importance of the high school transcript. (Rooms 170-171)

High School West Library (2nd Floor)

(7:00-7:55PM & 8:15-9:00PM) “Paying Wholesale for College” Guest Speaker: Andy Lockwood

The Child with Special Needs (College & Testing Accommodations for Special Education Students) (Session I & III) Gain insight into the process of applying for SAT/ACT accommodations; student self-advocacy on campus; finding the “Right Fit” for a student with special needs. (Room 172)

Welcome & Introduction 7:00pm -7:10pm (High School West Auditorium)

EVENTS FOR THE EVENING Workshop room assignments will be posted throughout the building. The scheduling of these sessions will allow you to attend the two keynote presentations, or three of the minisessions, or “mix and match”attending one main session and one mini-session.





The Senior Year– (Session II & III) This presentation will cover the recommended month-by-month steps that seniors should follow in preparation for the college application process, financial aid and scholarships. (Room 175)
