Driver's ed summer 2018 application

HALF HOLLOW HILLS 2018 Driver Education Summer Program July 18, 2018 – August 8, 2018 Location: High School West To enroll, students must be 16 years old and possess a valid New York State Learner’s permit or Junior License prior to Monday, June 15, 2018. This program is open to incoming seniors and juniors only. **There will be a mandatory parent /student meeting on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the High School West Auditorium. Lecture and driving times will be assigned at this meeting.

Registration is based on student’s date of birth order only. Any outside conflicts are the student’s responsibility to work out, not the Driver Education program. **

Dates This course begins on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, and will end on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Classes will meet each day Monday – Friday. Please check all dates listed in this application before signing up for the program.

Cost The cost of this program is $500.00. The full amount is required with the completed application no later than June 19, 2018.

Credit cards, personal checks and cash will not be accepted. Only money orders will be accepted and should be made out to: HALF HOLLOW HILLS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT there are no refunds once classes begin on July 18, 2018.

Lecture Classes All lecture classes are 90 minutes long each day/ Monday-Friday. Absences and lateness will not be permitted. Homework and other assignments are part of the student’s responsibility. Students must maintain a passing average on all tests and quizzes.

An average of 65% must be maintained to receive your final certificate.

Driving Classes Students will drive and observe for 90 minutes each day, Monday-Saturday, in car class. Vehicles will be leaving school grounds promptly and therefore lateness will not be permitted. The use of electronic devices is prohibited throughout the driving session.

Absences & Make-up Classes The New York State Education Department guidelines for Driver and Traffic Safety Education require a minimum of 24 hours of classroom lecture and 24 hours of laboratory (driving) instruction. This will include at least 6 (six) hours of required driving for each student. Therefore, students must attend all 48 hours of the program to receive the MV-285 form (certificate of completion). Students are allowed to make-up 1 (one) class for the summer program. Students who miss more than 1 class will be dropped. All missed classes must be made up.

Applications and Registration All applications must be submitted to Lisa Filippi in room 104 at the Fran Greenspan Administration building by 10:00 a.m. on June 15, 2018, to be considered for the program. Applications are to be filled out completely and include: A clear copy of the NYS Learner’s Permit or Junior License Signed Parent Contract Form Payment (stapled to application).

Important Information All students must maintain at least a 65% average for both lecture and driving classes. These grades are not combined. Students are responsible for being prepared to participate, take notes and learn at each session.

THE USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES IS PROHIBITTED DURING BOTH LECTURE AND DRIVING CLASSES. Students who do not abide by this rule will be reported to Half Hollow School District Administration.

All missed classes must be made up prior to the end of the session. No absences are allowed by the end of review day. Only 1 make up is allowed in the summer.
