We have created Rodimus the recycling and re-purposing robot in order to incentivize proper recycling and do our part to help stop climate change before it’s too late. Through our research, we learned that people aren’t inclined to recycle because they think their individual actions aren’t making a difference on a global scale. We want to change this.
Rodimus is designed to take users’ recycling waste and turn it into new products that can be used immediately. Now users don’t have to worry about where their recycling is ending up as they will be able to tangibly identify their own impact.
This immediate reward will allow people to see the powers of recycling and will hopefully change the way they view their impact on the environment. This also circumvents the problem of recyclable materials ending up in the landfill where nothing can be made from them as everything disposed of in our vending machine will be turned into something of value. People will be rewarded for recycling properly and we hope this instills in people a sustainable mindset that will affect other aspects of their lives. Help us save the planet and leave the Earth better than when we found it!
Need a pen ergonomically designed for left hands?
Want a phone case that fits your specific phone model? Prefer toothbrushes with soft bristles over firm ones?
Your recycling and repurposing AI buddy Rodimus, coded with love, care, and plenty of ethical consideration, is able to analyze, ideate, and generate all sorts of designs for your next print job! The more you converse with Rodimus and share with them your preferences, the more that Rodimus learns about you and understands your wants and needs, and proposes better and more tailored designs for you.
Though Rodimus is able to recycle a wider variety of items than most US recycling facilities, Rodimus still has their limits that we are currently working on expanding. In the meantime, we request that you please ensure that you’re disposing the correct item into the correct waste chute.
Rodimus will also gently, and loudly, remind you in case you toss an item into the wrong bin.
After some time, Rodimus will have built up enough disposed materials to be able to start breaking them down and printing out new items. When enough material to start printing is ready, Rodimus will chat with you what types of items you’d like printer, and show you specific designs for those items. The possibilities are (almost) endless! And you get to pick in the end what to print.
To keep track of how much material has been disposed and by whom, you can visit the Inventory tab on Rodimus’s screen.
Hey, I wanna turn these plastic bags into a new pen. My old one broke. Yes! Any particular kind of pen you’re looking for?
Well... I write with my right hand... Something that’s easy to grip, I guess.
Gotcha! Here are some possible designs I’ ve made that have a comfy grip and are designed for righties :)
Once you’ve selected a design, stand back, relax, and watch as your item is printed! Once the printing is done, Rodimus’s printer casing will open once your item and all printer parts have cooled down.
Rodimus keeps all hazardous and moving parts contained within itself, and Rodimus will warn you if its sees you about to harm yourself.
Still, just like you would around a burning stove, a heating oven, or an operating blender, please use caution around any hot or sharp parts. The printer nozzle can heat up to 3000 F to melt down metal and glass, and the blender blades can move up to 1000 MPH in order to break down plastic and paper.
Rodimus currently accepts the following types of sorted wastes: paper and paperboard, plastic, aluminum, and glass, some of the most commonly disposed materials that can be broken down into raw materials and repurposed.
Rodimus is then able to transform these materials into a variety of common basic living needs, household goods, and office items. By using your waste to create items that otherwise need to be manufactured from new materials and purchased, we hope to create a healthier cycle of using and reusing common materials for everyday living.
Paper and paperboard
In addition to standard paper and paperboard, Rodimus also accepts receipts, envelopes, sticky notes. Also not necessary to remove tape and labels.
TYPES OF PRINTABLES

Hygiene products Diningware Office supplies Tech accessories

shopping receipts
sticky notes
paper pulp
toilet paper (yes, really) notebooks napkins
Rodimus prides itself in being able to repurpose any type of plastic, including PET (plastic recycling symbol no. 1) and HPDE (no. 2), and plastics that cannot be recycled in US facilities, such as PVC (no. 3).
The plastic recycling rate in the U.S. is currently at only 5% (Greenpeace).
We hope to raise that number.
used phone cases
old plastic toothbrushes
gently soiled plastic food packaging (too dirty, and Rodimus will request that you wash it or toss it in the landfill)
plastic filament (colors may vary)
specify left or right hand, bristle softness)
new phone case, plastic (can specify color and phone model)
plastic pens, with plasticbased ink
string floss and container
Aluminum
Rodimus can melt down any aluminum waste, including lightly soiled foil, soda cans, and wires. No need to remove any labels or tape.

Rest assured! We have identified the following risks to users and are putting the following safeguards in place to mitigate them:
The machine will have a list of protected items that cannot be produced consistent with government regulations surrounding dangerous and harmful products.
We will also allow for parental restrictions to be set barring children from creating adult products without the consent of their parents.
Rodimus will scan items for potential contaminants such as bodily fluids, sharp objects, unrecylable materials, etc. and will reject anything that is unsafe to reuse
cost-friendly!
Rodimus only costs $500 and consumes at most 400 kW per hour, approximately the same as a typical desktop computer!
We will retain images of waste disposed of to train and update our model, but this information will be collected in a centralized database without any potentially informationidentifying such as location or time thrown out.
Rodimus is manufactured at our Stanford University headquarters from 100% recycled materials!
Rodimus only weights 250 pounds and takes up 20 cubic feet, about the same as a typical US household refridgerator!
Rodimus will give multiple auditory warnings before starting the deconstruction process. . Rodimus will also not start or continue with deconstruction if a person is too close to the machine and will issue additional safety warnings before continuing.
User data
potentially
We will conduct weekly checks to ensure the model’s accuracy and will constantly update it as new data becomes available.
We will allow for the recycling of a broader range of materials than is standard in the US to accomodate for different regions. The machine will also use AI to visualize new products and devise a recipe for their creation based on localized feedback and suggestions from users.
Cloggled nozzle? Wonky printhead? Shaky printer tray?
The amazing Rodimus is built of common and modular mechanical components, making it extremely easy to repair or replace components using basic workshop parts and tools. Feel free to call our team at 1-800-RODIMUS for technical support, or call in your local mechanic.
