Our first week back at RGCGISD for the 2023-2024 school year was amazing! We saw how much effort and dedication was put into making campuses inviting and welcoming for our students and staff to begin a brand new year.
» Students and staff have been busy these past few weeks with many activities happening across the district. In February, RGCGISD Elementary students participated in the Superintendent's Math Challenges, which was a highly engaging experience. It was inspiring to see the students' dedication and excitement towards learning.

» Our Rio Grande City High School Mariachi Cascabel and Grulla High School Mariachi Grulla de Plata earned a Superior Rating Division 1 at the 2023 UIL State Maria- chi Competition. We are so incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication.
» RGCGISD staff members have begun preparing for the 17th annual Superintendent’s Golf Tournament which will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023. As always, all proceeds from this event will go to our graduating seniors and we anticipate this event to be even more successful than previous years.
» Safety is our number one priority at RGCGISD and we are proud to announce the awarding of several grants that will bring additional safety measures to those already in place across the district, which include the placement of more metal detectors and the purchase of Guardian Door Protectors.
» Students and staff are working hard to meet academic goals they set for themselves in the Fall and we are confident that we will soar with greater success than ever before. We have been preparing our students and teachers for the busy assessment months ahead, which culminates with STAAR testing in April and May.

Last month Accountability & Assessment Director/RSSP Lead, Mrs.Hermelinda Ayala-Rios and TCLAS Director/Data Fellow, Mrs. Patricia O. Soto were among four Region 1 RSSP LEAs to participate in the first RSSP and Data Fellows Learning Labs. The primary purpose of RSSP and Data Fellows Learning Labs was for participating LEAs to come together in-person to network, collaborate, and share experiences and best practices. Region 1 RSSP LEAs: Weslaco ISD, United ISD, Rio Grande City Grulla ISD, and Raymondville ISD shared their journey, lessons learned, and how they are utilizing the RSSP and Data Fellows Program supports to accelerate student learning. The Texas COVID Learning Accelerated Support (TCLAS) Decision 1 grant provides RGCGISD Curriculum and Instruction RSSP Teams effective strategies in addressing unfinished learning which require data-driven prioritization of research-backed learning acceleration strategies, intentional and multi-year strategic planning, and ongoing continuous improvement through implementation. These TCLAS supports provide RSSP Teams with the expert technical assistance needed to effectively performance manage districtwide learning acceleration.
The Effective Implementation Cohort Convening in San Diego, CA provided an opportunity for Curriculum and Instruction District Implementation Team administrators to learn, collaborate, and attend a two-day convening. The teams engaged in an action packed agenda including: Day 1: TEXAS Providers & District Community of Practice, Dyad Time, Shared Learning Time, and Networking Time and Day 2: Solution Rooms to support a dyad through an implementation barrier and provide potential solutions or small change actions. Each District Implementa- tion Team completed a poster and presented on the districtʼs current implementa- tion process titled Overcoming Adversity. In Rio Grande City Grulla ISD middle school students are supported with High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIMs) in 6th-8th grade Mathematics using Agile Mind. This curriculum has led to all middle schools teachers coaching support from Agile Mind and the UT Data Center. The District Implementation Team (DIT) has representation from General Education, Bilingual supports, Special Education, Agile Mind, UT Dana Center, and district level administration. District Implementation Team Members in attendance: Mrs.Virginia Gonzalez, Executive Director Federal and State Programs, Mrs. Hermelinda Ayala-Rios, Director for Accountability & Assessment, Mrs. Patricia O. Our RGCGISD Athletic Department has continued to work diligently in providing resources to assist our student athletes and our coaching staff, in all of our athletic sports programs. This school year, with the support of Mr. Adoldo Peña, superintendent, our school board and our community, our athletic department has been able to provide additional facility upgrades to add on the last year's projects. At Veterans Middle School, a new maple floor replaced the prior composite flooring in both gyms which has brought a new sense of pride to the campus and our VMS athletic department. In addition, at GHS, an upgraded golf driving range with new distance markers and turf putting greens has allowed our GHS Golf program to be able to develop fundamental skills and further excitement for the sport. We are proud of our past and present projects and look forward to what the future holds for our student athletes and future athletic projects at RGCGISD.
Rio Grande City Grulla ISD was represented by Lillian Jones, Julio Eguia, Nydia Benitez at the RVC TIA Community of Practice where they shared our Teacher Incentive Allotment data capture process with districts throughout the region.
