an assembly that was out of this world, really it was. At first it was the present and Doctor Who and his assistants took everyone back in his Tardis to the time of the Victorians.

Summer Camp May 2008 During the halfterm, we attended the Sathya Sai (SSEHV) Summer Camp. It was a wonderful experience, we learnt about the five human values which are; Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Nonviolence. At the camp we had a lot fun in creating posters for each value, played games inside and out, did yoga, and learnt Tai-Kwan-Do. On the last day we had a drama production, which was attended by the new Mayor of Brent, parents and the teachers. I hope the SSEHV Summer Camp will come to Preston Park Primary School again soon.

Brent Council Mathematics Conference 2008 On the 25th June our own Miss Koulla Louca ran a workshop at the conference for teachers on supporting EAL learners in Mathematics, passing on good practice she has developed in initial assessment and intervention for our EAL learners.

Congratulations we YEAR 1 - LEGOLAND TRIP On 10th June we went to Legoland we went there by coach. There were lots of rides like the Castle Ride, the Dragon Ride, the Boat Ride and the Cars. After lunch we had to go to a workshop to make stuff out of Lego. It was a great day. Reporters Tyreece and Arian 1RB

Fire Engine Visits—

Wembley Fire Brigade came to visit Year 1- Nabil 1FT writes —The fireman put the pump on and we sprayed water up the tree. They let us put helmets on and get in the fire engine the siren was very loud.

They then chatted to us, it was great fun.

We are runners up in Brent and Highly Commended in this year’s awards and have won £1000. London Mayor Boris Johnson will present us with a cheque and trophy at City Hall on the 10th July.

Fantastic News Preston Park have been granted £10,000 to create an exciting learning resource in our wildlife area—now known as our Outdoor Education Learning Environment. This project will start soon and be completed by Spring 2009 with trails to follow and information boards for children to find out about all the birds, mammals, insects, amphibians and plants than inhabit our school.

Year 6 Trip To France On the 2nd of June Year 6 went to France, and had the best time ever. We travelled by coach to Dover where we saw the White Cliffs, we crossed the English Channel by ferry arriving in Calais. It took all day to travel to our hotel.

The next day we went to Paris the capital city. We had time to explore and also to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. The view was amazing you couldn’t see the people from the top. We went on a boat ride along the river Seine which runs through Paris, after going to a fantastic French restaurant.

We saw lots of famous buildings and although it rained we really enjoyed it. The next day we went to the magical Disneyland, saw Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. We went on loads of rides, Space Mountain was favourite with most of us, and we had lots of fun! We did loads of shopping there and on the way back! Overall we all had the time of our lives and we will never ever forget it. Reporter Safiyyah Osman 6DA

MICKEY MOUSE SAYS BONJOUR TO ALL PRESTON PARK CHILDREN

The year 6 trip to Central London On the Wednesday 4th June the children who didn’t go to France, got to visit Central London. There we saw many different historical things like the Houses of Parliament. We even saw Buckingham Palace. We were quite lucky that day as the march started as we arrived there. We had a wonderful time. On the Friday we had a picnic in the park which was really special to end the week off.

Willows Farm Village I went to the farm and saw rabbits, ducks and cow and a dog– Reporter Mohammed in the Nursery

Nursery are getting active and climbing their way around their new ‘Silly Sally’.

Education Advisors came to visit us on 25th June regarding the CLLICT outdoors project, they were keen to see the children’s work. We also had a network meeting in the evening where staff from other schools came to discuss the ICT project over a lovely spread of food. Before they left we gave the a brief tour of the school.

They were very impressed with our set up and paid particular attention to our wildlife area and school pets, and gave very positive comments.

ALLOTMENT VISIT—On the 12th June our ICT / Gardening group visited Donald Leon Soon's Allotment. It is just off Preston Road called the Tenderten Allotment Society and is divided into plots. Donald showed us what he has planted. We saw lots of fruit and vegetables he is growing - potatoes, onions, cabbage, tomatoes, the strawberries were ripening, and the rhubarb was ready. He gave us all some flowers, huge poppies. Reporter Meray and Nieah 4SS HEALTHY EATING—WE GREW OUR OWN On 26th June we picked our own strawberries from our school allotment— THEY WERE DELICIOUS.

Police Talk on Knife Crime — On Friday 13th, the local police, part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team, came to talk to Year 6 about knife crime. They came with a special guest, a real local victim of a knife crime told us how it felt and how it affected her family and her life. She was a lawyer who also helped refugees. She told her story of what happened to her. She was walking to the theatre. Thinking about what is going to happen in the theatre then a man approached her and harrased her for her bag but she keeps on telling him there is nothing in there. She also said that it was winter it was around February so she was wearing a really thick long jacket. But then the man started stabbing her. But she never felt it she only felt it when she took of her coat.

Since then she hasn’t gone to work and that now her husband takes her places and picks her up by car. The police also told us about the consequences of committing knife crime. they described it as ‘on the road to disaster’. Reporters Anjali, Eni 6RC and Nurto 6JC. National Bike Week On Tuesday 18th we could bring our bikes to school for Dr Bike to fix our bikes and check they are working properly, looking at brakes, tyres and chains. They looked at 23 altogether. We also had an assembly on cycling and road safety and then there were some workshops for groups of year 4 and 5 children to ride bikes like three wheeled bikes, tandems, choppers and some had four wheels. BRAKE’S Sponsored Walking Bus—On the

11th June we took part on a Guinness Book of World Records sponsored walking bus organised by the road safety charity BRAKE. SPORTS Preston Park vs Mitchell Brook –

On Tuesday 17th June we played Mitchell Brook. It was a tough match but we didn’t let any goals in and when Mitchell Brook got a penalty Basim our Goalkeeper saved it with ease. Soon after Maisab from Mitchell Brook scored and it was 1-0 to them. The scores remained the same until half time, in the second half we kept trying to score but couldn’t. It looked like it was all over for us until Hussein landed a fantastic cross to D’Andre who headed it to beat the goalkeeper and equalise. The score was 1-1, then in extra time Ahmed skilled up the Mitchell Brook goalkeeper and scored making it 2-1 to us. The whistle blew and we won, it was a splendid match. Reporter Azeem 5RP.

Cricket Fun!

Preston Park have got a new practice cricket cage for everybody to use, you can find it over at the corner of the junior field. The cage is good because if somebody hits the ball hard the it will not go far away, saving time going to get the it, you can just pick the ball up.

Also the net stops anyone getting hurt and you can’t lose the ball over the fence, this leaves more playing time.

PRIMARY ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS On

Wednesday 25th June a few children from years 5 and 6 went to Willesden Sports Centre to take part in the Championships. We did loads of fun wacky events. Terique won the 200 meters for us and we won the mixed relay, the team was Kaytayani, Dino, Kynesha and Sachin. In the end we came 4th out of 30 schools – reporters Terique and Kyle 5SV

NEW KITS FOR SPORTS

Mr Jarvis has ordered for our school new kits for Sports Competitions. They can be used for football, basketball, volleyball, netball and cheerleading for home or away. Mr Jarvis has organised new line markings and also ordered new equipment which he requests that children DO NOT MISUSE as Mr Redpath and the school had to agree to spend the money for us to have these sporting opportunities.
