CHECK FOR WATER IN FUEL FILTER/WATER SEPARATOR

The high risk of refuelling with fuel that is polluted by foreign bodies and water makes it advisable to carry out this operation every time you refuel. Only proceed with the engine stopped. FOr PrOCEdUrE ON CHECKINg ANd CHANgINg THE FUEL FILTEr/WATEr SEPArATOr, PLEASE rEFEr TO yOUr MACHINE’S OPErATOr’S MANUAL. Note: The components of the common rail system can be damaged very quickly in presence of water or impurity within the fuel.

Drain fuel filter into a container and dispose of all fluids properly. REPLACEMENT OF FUEL FILTER

IMPORTANT !

Filters that are an integral part of the engine (fuel and lubricating oil) should be serviced and replaced according to the MAINTENANCE SCHEdULE in this manual.

WARNING

During this operation don’t smoke or use open flames. Avoid inhaling the vapors coming from the filter.

To avoid injury and the risk of burning, shut off the engine and allow it to cool down before proceeding.

1. Place a suitable container under the fuel filter and drain the fuel by loosening the drain plug (5) and bleed screw (2). 2. Unscrew the filter cartridge housing (1) using a wrench and remove the filter cartridge (4) and o-ring (3). 3. Replace the filter element (4) and o-ring (3), making sure that the o-ring is properly seated in it`s groove. 4. Clean the surface of the filter head in contact with the filter housing. 5. Apply a thin layer of oil to the filter housing o-ring. (3). 6. Install the new filter housing by turning it manually until the o-ring is in contact with the filter head. dO NOT

PrE-FILL THE NEW FILTEr. 7. Further tighten to a torque as per table below either by hand or with a filter wrench.

(1) Fuel filter 24 ± 1.8 lbf-ft (32.5 ±2.5 Nm) (5) Threaded plug 1 ± 0.4 lbf-ft (1.5 ±0.5 Nm) (2) Bleed screw 13.2 ± 1.5 lbf-ft (18 ±2 Nm) 8. Tighten the drain plug (5) to the torque indicated in the above table.

9. Attach one end of a hose to the nipple on the end of the bleed screw (2) on the engine fuel filter and place the other end into a suitable container to collect fuel that flows from the bleed screw. 10. Loosen the vent plug situated on top of the fuel filter/ water separator housing (provided by the vehicle/ equipment manufacturer). 11. Operate the primer pump situated on top of the fuel filter/water separator (provided by the vehicle/equipment manufacturer) until fuel flows out without air from the vent plug. 12. Tighten the vent plug. 13. Continue to operate the pump until fuel flows out without air from the bleed screw (2) situated on the engine fuel filter head. 14. Tighten the bleed screw as per table below.
