Bleeding the fuel system

Bleeding the fuel system

High-pressure fuel system

After removal or replacement of the high-pressure fuel lines it is not necessary to perform external bleeding in order to start the engine. The fuel pump produces a high fuel pressure during starting and discharges the air on the high-pressure side through the injection nozzles.

Procedure:

Turn the electrical system key-switch to position I, however without starting the engine. The electric fuel pump is now running for about 30 seconds to remove air from the system (running noise of pump can be heard). Start the engine thereafter. If the engine does not start, turn the key-switch for about 30 seconds to position 0. During this time, the engine electronics is reset. Thereafter, repeat the bleeding procedure. If the engine starts up, there is no more air in the system.

Bleeding the fuel system Read and observe: "Fuel system – Safety instructions"

After repairs on the fuel system or after cleaning of the fuel tank, the system must be bled.

Procedure:

1. Slide the hose (6, Fig. 1) over bleeding valve (3). 2. Stick bleeding hose (6) into a collecting recipient (7). 3. Open bleeding valve (3) with an open-end spanner (turning counter-clockwise). 4. Press button (2) of the hand pump repeatedly until there are no more air bubbles to be seen in the hose (6). 5. Close bleeding valve (3) with an open-end spanner (turning clockwise). 6. Withdraw hose (6) with collecting recipient (7) from bleeding valve (3) and dispose of the collected fuel in compliance with state-of-the-art techniques in closed containers.

The fuel hose (6) must be resistant to fuels and transparent.

Check all lines and connections and the fuel filter assembly for leaks.

For the removal of fuel use only stateof-the-art closed systems. When handling flammable liquids, observe the regulations on flammable liquids and other applicable regulations such as the explosion protection prescriptions.

Work on electrical systems – Instructions

40001361.00-en

Before working on the electrical system or before performing welding operations, the operator control panel must be disconnected from the electrical system of the machine by unplugging the connectors. Turn the electrical system keyswitch to "0" and withdraw the key. Set the battery main switch to OFF and withdraw the switch lever. Electrical interface connections may only be closed or opened by joining or by separating the corresponding male and female connectors.
