IntroductiontoMaserati

RPM sensor:

The RPM sensorisa variablereluctancetransducer(alsoknownasa pick-up or inductive sensor) locatedin proximityof the tone wheelkeyedtothe crankshaft. The tone wheelhas58 (60-2) teeth.

Resistance= 1134 ÷1386Ω (20°C).

The prescribedgap betweenthe tipof the sensorand the tone wheeltoobtaincorrect readingsisbetween0.5 and 1.5 mm. The output voltagevarieswiththe rotation speed.

Timing sensor:

The timing sensorisa Hall-effecttransducerfittedin correspondencewitha tone wheel withfourcamson the intakecamshafts.

In normalconditionsthe timing sensoroutput signalis5V, butwhenthe magneticcamis alignedwiththe sensorthe signalislost, therebyinformingthe ECU of the position of the camshaft(the ECU readsthe downwardflanksof the timing signal)

The timing sensorisanactivetransducer. This meansthatthe position of the camshaftis recognisedevenwhenthe engineisstopped. The timing signalisutilisedtorecognisethe position of the engineand forthe VVT system.

Broad band oxygensensor(Bosch LSU)

The pumpingor measuringcellismaintained witha stoichiometricA/F ratio. In the presenceof excessoxygenin the exhaustgas, positive pumpingcurrentmakesit possibletoremovesaidexcessoxygen. The oppositesituation occurswithrich mixtures.

The pumpingcurrentthereforeindicatesthe stoichiometricratio and the concentration differencegeneratesa current.

LSU typebroadband oxygensensorsalwaysfunctionin CLOSED LOOP mode except duringthe "light off" periodand forveryshort intervalsduringtransients.
