•A special series “CoupéVintage”was presented in 2005. This model had the same alloy wheels as the GranSportand is further recognisable by a small chrome grill on its side wings.

GranSport
With the GranSport, presented at the Geneva motor show of 2004, Maseratirevives one of the great names of its own motoring heritage to indicate the most dynamic version of the M138 model range. The GranSportname was used in the 1950’s to indicate an elegant two-litre coupe on the basis of the famous A6G model with Fruabodywork. The GranSportincorporates all necessary ingredients to convert the Coupéfrom a great performance GT car in a true driving machine. The GranSportwas joined later by an open GranSportSpyderversion, presented at the Frankfurt motor show of 2005.

Various modifications gave the GranSporta more sporty temperament:


•ModifiedF136R enginedeliversnow400 hp at 7000 rpm. 10 horsepowerwas gainedbyadaptinga newenginecontrolsoftware, intakeair ductsand valve seats wereelaboratedand internalfrictionwasreducedbyreworkingseveralcomponents.
•Newlydesignedexhaustsystem withelectronicallycontrolledpneumaticby-pass valvesforthe rearsilencersprovidea deepand sportyenginesound
•Excellentperformances: top speedof290 km/h and acceleration from0 to100 km/h in only4.85 seconds. The standing kilometeriscoveredin 23 seconds.

GranSportContemporaryClassic
This special edition of the GranSport was presented at the 2006 Paris motor show. The GranSportContemporary Classic is recognisable by its alloy wheels with “Ball Polish”finishing and red painted brake calipers.
GranSportMC Victory
To celebrate the winning of the Constructors Cup with its MC12 racing cars in the 2005 FIA GT Championship, Maseratienriches her model range with a special version of the GranSportproduced in a limited series of only 180 pieces. The GranSportMC Victory has the following specific features:

•Special “Victory Blue”external colour
•A numbered identification plate on the central console
•A newly designed carbon fibre front spoiler with lateral profiling improves downforce
•A small boot lid spoiler finished in carbon fibre
•19”alloy wheels in titanium finishing
•Label with the Italian flag on both front side wings reminds to the MC12 racing cars
•Bucket seats made of carbon fibre are taken from the MC12, finished in blue leather and alcantara.

Model Hystory
The Maserati Quattroporte (model code M139) waspresentedin late 2003 at the Frankfurt motor show asthe fifthgeneration of the Maserati high performance premium saloon. With itselegantly-designedPininfarina body, the Quattroporte madea triumphantreturn in the highestsegment, 40 yearsafter the introductionof the first, Frua-boddiedQuattroporte. InimitableTridentstyle, sophisticated interior and spiritedtemperamentcharacterisethe new Maserati flagshipwhichhaswonnumerousimportantnationaland international awards. The Quattroporte offerssuperiorhandling due toa perfectweightdistribution. Thisisthankstoanenginemountedbehind the front axleand a rearmounted, transaxle gearbox. Quattroporte

Quattroporte Executive GT


Presentedtoghetherwiththe Quattroporte Sport GT, the Executive GT representsthe Quattroporte in itsmostelegantform. Comfort levelsof the Executive GT are at their highestand mostexclusive. Standard features include: alcantara roofupholstery, leather and woodsteeringwheelrim, rearseatheating, ventilationand massage functions, rear window curtains, rearstowablewoodentablesand rearseatcontrol panel forHVAC. Technicaldifferencesremainlimitedtonewlydesigned19 inchrimswithball polish finishing. BothExecutive GT and Sport GT versions co-existwiththe standard Quattroporte model.
Quattroporte Automatic
The mostimportanttechnicalevolutioncamewiththe introductionof the Quattroporte Automaticat the 2007 Detroit motor show. Whilethe Quattroporte withDuoselect transmissionhasproventobeanideal match forMaserati’s sportyreputation, demandfor a fullyautomaticversionhasalwaysbeenpresent. The Quattroporte Automaticismuch more thena Quattroporte simplyfittedwitha new gearbox. Fromthe 16.500 components of whichthe Quattroporte is made, 4.800 are new. The powertrainiscompletelynew with the adaptionof a new wetsumpengine(F136UC), gearbox, propellorshaftand limitedslip differential.
Alsothe Quattroporte Duoselectbenefittedfromthe importantimprovementsand modificationsintroducedin the Quattroporte Automatic(MY07 onwards), suchasthe completelyredesignedHVAC system and improvedcomfort due tomodificationsmadeat the wheelsuspensions. The Quattroporte Automaticisavailablein standard versionas wellasSport GT and Executive GT.
Quattroporte Sport GT S
The Quattroporte Sport GT S waspresentedat the 2007 Frankfurtmotor show toreplace the Sport GT. The Sportycharacterof the Sport GT wasfurther enhancedwitha number of new feartures:
•Suspensionswithstifferspringsand stiffer, single rate dampers; a ‘racing’setupand a loweredride (10 mm at the front and 25 mm at the rear). Thankstothese modifications, bodyrolland pitchhasbeensignificantlyreduced, whileincreasing drivingagility.
•New tyresdeveloppedespeciallybyPirelli forthe Sport GT S. Lateralaccelleration hasbeensignificantlyincreased.
•A new revolutionarybrakesystem developpedbyBrembo usesDual-castaluminium and cast irondiscs(first time on a production car), front discswithincreased diameterand sixpistoncalipers.
•Variousaestheticmodifications, suchasdoorhandlesin body dolour, dark exhaust pipesand side window trimsand dark chrome20 inchwheels forwhatconcernsthe exterior. Internally, the sportycharacterisenhancedbythe combinationof Poltrona Frau leatherand alcantara.

Quattroporte Collezione Cento
The Quattroporte Collezione Cento, of whichjust 100 unitswillbeproduced, hasbeen conceivedforthosewhoseekthe last word in luxury. Originaldesign solutionscombine elleganceand traditionalMaserati comfort withcuting-edgetechnologythatincludes mobile office and entertainment facilities. Thisspecial versionof the Quattroporte was presentedat the Detroit motor show in Januari2008 and isavailablewithautomatic transmissiononly.

Quattroporte
1. Engine
The Maserati Quattroporte isfittedwithtwo differentengines(F136S and F136UC). Both enginesare all-alloy90°8 cylinderV-engineswith a total displacementof 4.2 litres. The maindifferencebetweenbothenginesliesin the lubricationsystem. Power and torque figuresof bothenginesare comparable.
The F136S dry sumpengineisusedin the Quattroporte modelswithDuoselect transmission. Thisengineisanevolutionof the F136R engineasusedin the M138 models. Certainmodificationsweremadeto the cylinderheads, intakemanifoldand enginesoftware.

The F136UC wetsumpengineisusedforthe Quattroporte modelswithZF automatic transmission. Althoughthisengineisconsideredasanevolutionof the F136R/S engine, 80% of itscomponentsare new.
Bothenginescan easilybeidentifiedwhenopening the bonnetasthe dry sumpengine hasredcylinderhead covers, whileforthe wetsumpenginetheyare paintedin blue.
Forthe introductionof the Quattroporte withautomatictransmission, a new enginewitha traditional, wetsumplubricationsystem was developped. Thissolutionisconsideredas more adequateforthe applicationin Maserati vehiclesasitislessnoisyasa dry sump enginewithitsexternal, multiple oil pump. Thisenginehasmaintainedthe high power and torquevaluesof the dry sumpenginewhileat the sametime itistechnicallylesscomplex and thusmore economical. Also, reliabilityand fueleconomy of the new enginehasbeen improved.
In ordertoobtainanideal weightdistributionthe engineisput wellback in the quattroporte chassis, positionedcompletelybehind the front wheelaxis. Seechapter3 formore technicaldetailson bothengines.
