VII. OPERATION

1. BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

CAUTION:

• Before starting the engine, be sure to carry out the pre-operation inspection in accordance with the periodical inspection table on page 67.

• Follow instructions given in “I. FOR SAFE OPERATION.”

• Observe instructions given on the caution labels on the lawn mower, mower deck and collector.

2. STARTING THE ENGINE

WARNING: Never attempt to start the engine in an enclosed place with poor ventilation. Be sure to provide sufficient ventilation, as exhaust fumes can be lethal.

IMPORTANT: Before starting the engine, close the engine hood securely, sit down in the operator’s seat properly, depress the master brake pedal fully, and move the PTO lever to the OFF position ( ), otherwise the engine cannot be started.

d. Insert the starter key into the starter switch and turn the starter switch to the ON position ( ). Make sure that both the battery charge lamp and engine oil pressure warning lamp illuminates.

(2) Operator’s seat (GE TYPE)

(3) PTO lever (6) Parking lock

(4) Master brake pedal (E TYPE) a. Be sure to close the engine hood securely and sit down the operator’s seat properly. b. Be sure to set the PTO lever to the OFF position ( ). c. Depress the master brake pedal fully.

(1) Battery charge lamp

(2) Engine oil pressure warning lamp e. Set the throttle lever to an intermediate speed position between the high speed ( ) and low speed ( ) positions.

(1) Throttle lever (A) High speed (B) Low speed f. Turn the starter switch to the Glow position ( ) and hold it there for five to ten seconds.

IMPORTANT: Never keep on pre-heating more than 10 seconds, or the glow plugs may burn out. When the engine fails to start, wait at least 20 seconds before the next attempt.

(1) Starter switch (4) Glow position

(2) OFF position (5) START position

(3) ON position g. Turn the starter switch to the START position ( ), and the starter is activated in order to crank the engine. h. As soon as the engine starts, release the starter switch. The starter switch will return automatically to the ON position ( ). i. Make sure that the battery charge lamp and engine oil pressure warning lamp turn off.

IMPORTANT: Do not hold the starter switch more than 10 seconds in the START position ( ). When the engine fails to start, return the starter switch to the OFF ( ) position and wait at least 20 seconds before the next attempt. If you do not, the battery will be discharged too fast.

IMPORTANT: If the engine oil pressure warning lamp continues to turn on, stop the engine immediately and check the engine lubrication system. (Refer to page 49 and 50) j. When the engine starts, let the engine idle at half throttle position for about 5 minutes at least

IMPORTANT: • Never turn the starter switch to the START position ( ) after the engine starts, or the starter motor will be damaged.

• Insufficient idling time will cause poor lubrication of the engine due to high viscosity of engine oil, which will lead to a shorter service life of the engine.

NOTE: Warming up criteria and atmospheric temperatures:

Atmospheric temperatures Required warming up

Higher than 0°C (32°F) 5 to 10 minutes

0°C to -10°C (32°F to 14°F) 10 to 20 minutes

-10°C to -20°C (14°F to -4°F) 20 to 30 minutes

Lower than -20°C (-4°F) more than 30 minutes

WARNING: Never start travelling with the parking brake applied, or the brake performance will deteriorate soon or, even worse, the brake system could break down. In the worst case, the brake system may cause fire by heated brake drum if inflammables around the brake system is not properly removed.

3. TRAVELLING

CAUTION: a. Start the engine. (Refer to “2. STARTING THE ENGINE” at page 44 and 45.) b. Move the lift lever backward ( ) to lift up the mower deck from the ground. c. Release the parking brake (GE TYPE) or the parking lock (E TYPE). d. Turn the throttle lever to the high speed position ( ) to accelerate the engine.

• Before having become sufficiently familiar with the operation of the lawn mower, be sure to operate it in a spacious, flat and unobstructed place with good visibility, and confirm the function of each control.

• Check the place to mow beforehand for bumps, ditches, mounds, steps, slopes, inclination, softness, water pools and etc. in order to avoid accidents such as turnover, fall, side-sliding of the lawn mower.

CAUTION: Starting to travel at high speeds without lifting up the mower deck will cause the mower blades to hit stones or stocks, which may result in break-down of the lawn mower or serious accidents.

IMPORTANT: Before driving the lawn mower, make sure of the safety conditions in front of and around the lawn mower.

WARNING: Never start travelling with the parking brake applied, or the brake performance will deteriorate soon or, even worse, the brake system could break down. In the worst case, the brake system may cause fire by heated brake drum if inflammables around the brake system is not properly removed.

WARNING:

• Never attempt to turn the steering wheel abruptly when travelling at high speed, which is very dangerous.

• Never attempt to make a sharp turn on a slope. Slow down sufficiently and turn the steering wheel slowly to prevent the lawn mower from turning over or falling down.

CAUTION:

• Never attempt to depress the HST pedal abruptly, or lawn mower will dash forward, which is very dangerous.

• Before changing travelling directions, be sure that the lawn mower has stopped travelling completely.

• When reversing, be sure of the safety conditions behind the lawn mower.

4. STOPPING

a. Release the HST travel pedal.

b. Turn the throttle lever to the low speed ( ) position to slow down the engine.

c. Depress the master brake pedal and apply the parking brake (GE TYPE) or the parking lock (E TYPE).

CAUTION: Park the lawn mower on flat, level ground and make sure that the parking brake (GE TYPE) or the parking lock (E TYPE) is applied securely.

d. Move the lift lever forward ( ) to lower the mower deck onto the ground.

CAUTION: When stopping the lawn mower, lower the mower deck onto the ground without fail to avoid unexpected accidents.

a. Set the throttle lever to the low speed position ( ) to reduce engine speeds.

(1) Steering wheel

(2) HST forward travel pedal

(3) HST reverse travel pedal e. Depress the HST forward travel pedal softly, and the lawn mower starts travelling slowly. f. When reversing the lawn mower, depress the HST reverse travel pedal softly, and then the lawn mower starts reversing slowly. c. Turn the starter switch to the OFF ( ) position to stop the engine.

To apply the parking brake securely, pull up the parking brake lever.

To apply the parking lock securely, depress the master brake pedal first. While depressing the master brake pedal, move the foot to the parking lock and then depress the parking lock to lock the master brake pedal.

CAUTION:

switch (2) OFF position

IMPORTANT: • Never attempt stopping the engine abruptly when it is running at high speeds.

• Be sure to let the engine idle for about 5 minutes after a longtime operation and then stop the engine. Abrupt engine stopping may lead to over-heating causing seizure.

d. Remove key from the starter switch without fail.

CAUTION: When you leave the lawn mower, be sure to stop the engine and remove key from the starter switch to prevent the lawn mower from being started unexpectedly by children or unauthorised people.

Consult your ISEKI dealer for towing mower as much as possible. If such case as listed below, call your ISEKI dealer as transmission might be broken.

・Although the engine runs, tractor cannot start to move. ・Unusual noise occurs.

When mower is towed, HST unload lever should be ‘unload‘ position as below instruction.
