Check the operation of the INDICATOR LIGHTS in the instrument panel. Turn key switch all the way to the right ("TEST" position). The lights should al 1 illuminate with the key switch in the "TEST" position.

Check HORN operation. The horn should operate at all times that a properly charged battery is connected at the truck receptacle.
If horn does not operate, or if a rub- bing noise or squeaking is heard when turning steering handwheel, adjustment of the clearance between handwheel hub and shift quadrant may be required. Refer to GROUP 06, Section 2 for horn and steering wheel adjustment.
Check PUMP MOTOR SPEED operation:
With key switch still on, move the tilt lever in either "FORWARD" tilt or "BACK" tilt position. Pump motor will sound slightly different in "FORWARD" tilt than in "BACK" tilt.
Move the lift lever to the "RAISE" position. You should be able to hear a definite increase in pump motor speed. Fig. 22161

Check the BRAKE LIMIT (DRIVE MOTOR SHUT-OFF) SWITCH:
Move truck forward in CREEP SPEED.
Depress the brake pedal while holding the accelerator in creep speed. The braking action should interrupt power to the motor and stop the truck. Upon release of the brake pedal the truck should move forward.
Check the POWER STEERING SYSTEM while driving forward in creep speed.
Make a full turn to the right. Listen for unusual steering noise.
Now, make a full turn to the left. Again listen for unusual steering noise.
NOTE
You will hear the power steering operate over relief while making a full cramp turn in either direction. Fig. 22175

NOTE
Refer to Book No. 59-854-0005, System Diagnosis SCR Controls, ECA/EPA 17 thru 30, for instructions on operation and troubleshooting of GE Model EV-1 solid-state controls.
Refer to GROUP 40, Section 5 for Electrical Test Specifications.
Check CREEP SPEED, ACCELERATION, AND TOP TRAVEL SPEED for the following conditions. See next page for additional testing procedures.
1. CREEP SPEED should be obtained as the 1MS switch just closes.
2. ACCELERATION: Truck should adequately accelerate in the SCR
RANGE so that a smooth transition from SCR to 1A RANGE can be obtained.
As the 1A contactor closes (providing direct battery current to the drive motor), there should be very little surge as the truck goes out of the SCR range and into 1A.
3. FIELD WEAKENING is standard equipment for truck applications where more speed is desired than available with the motor directly across the battery (with 1A contactor closed). There should be very little surge as the truck goes out of 1A into the field weakening mode.
Check REVERSE CREEP SPEED Check ACCELERATION Check TOP TRAVEL SPEED
Drive truck in "REVERSE" in a straight line of travel. Listen for unusual drive train noise.
STOP TRUCK with the service brakes. Note any unusual reaction in braking performance or adjustment. Refer to GROUP 20, Section 1 for Brake Disc Wear Check. Refer to GROUP 23, Section 3 for Brake Bleeding Procedure.
