ADJUSTING THE SHAFTS IN THE HOUSING

Shimming of tapered roller bearings

– Fit the bearings (69) and (70), the washer (65) and elastic ring (64) without the shims. – Measure "C" with a set of shims. – Fit shims of a thickness corresponding to the measured play. Zero play and preload with a tolerance of 0±0,05 mm. If possible, adjust towards the maximum end of this tolerance.

For example, if the play measured is 0,82 mm

0,82–0,05=0,77 0,82+0,05=0,87 In this example, the thickness of the shims to be installed should be between 0,77 and 0,87 mm (and as close to 0,87 mm as possible).

– Fit the primary line and reverse gear in the casing. – Position the cover with the corresponding bearing cups. – Measure the play of the two shafts (see next paragraph). – Remove the upper line and the reverse gear pinion. – Fit the secondary line only in the casing. – Measure the play (see next paragraph). – Remove the secondary line.
