EXHAUST PARTICULATE FILTER

The filter housing is installed on the outgoing side of the exhaust conditioner and contains a replaceable filter element.

Exhaust Particulate Filter Housing

The filter element housing has a backpressure indicator which signifies filter blockage this is located in the operator’s compartment. The indicator should be checked daily or every 10 service hours.

Exhaust Back Pressure Gauge

If the particulate filter usage or engine smoke emissions are excessive the engine will require servicing.

Ensure that the filter element is cool enough to handle other wise the garbage bag will melt causing skin burns.

Wear suitable eye protection, gloves and dust mask when performing filter replacement as particulate caught by the filter may be harmful to the respiratory system. Immediately wash any particulate matter from skin with warm, soapy water.

To check the particulate filter indicator:

1. Locate the gauge in the operator’s compartment. 2. Run the engine at high idle and observe the indicator position. 3. If the indicator is in the red zone the filter requires replacement.

To replace the particulate filter:

1. Position the machine in an area with the least amount of air movement. 2. Ensure that the engine has had sufficient time to cool and is Isolated and personal danger tag/lock is fitted. 3. Use correct PPE supplied with new filter; remove the filter housing lid by removing the four cover retaining bolts. 4. Undo filter retaining nuts. 5. Place a garbage bag over the filter housing until the base of the bag is at the top of the housing.

6. With the filter element clear of the housing invert the garbage bag. Grasp the filter element through the garbage bag base and remove the filter element clear of the housing ensuring the garbage bag covers the filter as it is removed. 7. Discard the used element in an appropriate manner taking care not to puncture the bag. 8. Place the new filter element inside the housing and secure the lid.
