CHECKING AND SETTING IGNITION TIMING
To check the static (engine not running) timing proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the center ignition coil wire from coil. Remove No. 1. spark plug.
2. Hand crank the engine to set the No. 1 piston at top dead center of the compression stroke. Outward pressure will be felt when the thumb is placed over the No. 1 spark plug hole when the piston is coming up on the compression stroke, pressure is also felt on the exhaust stroke. DO NOT CONFUSE THE TWO. The crankshaft pulley 5° ATC mark should be lined up with the timing pointer, Figure 70.
3. Remove the distributor rotor and dust shield. cap, Note __/' /;;( / f ( } the position of the ignition points. If the points are adjusted correctly, they will be just starting to open.
4. If the distributor is not timed correctly, proceed as follows:
TDC

Loosen the clamp at the base of the distributor.

TO RETARD SPARK - Turn the distributor clockwise until the points just begin to open. Then tighten the clamp at the distributor base.
TO ADVANCE SPARK - Turn the distributor counterclockwise until the points just begin to open. Then tighten the clamp at the distributor base.
After the distributor has been timed correctly, replace the dust shield, rotor, distributor cap, coil wire and spark plug. NOTE SHOULD THE DISTRIBUTOR REQUIRE ATTENTION OTHER THAN DESCRIBED IN THIS MANUAL, HAVE IT SERVICED BY YOUR AUTHORIZED CASE DEALER.

PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
',Alllll
Figure 71 Figure 72
Occasionally it may be necessary to adjust tlie parking brake on the transmission.
The parking brake can be adjusted as follows:
Minor
The parking brake handle is located in the operator's compartment at the rear center, Figure 71. To adjust the parking brake turn the knurled portion of the handle toward the front of the Loader to increase the tension -- Turn rearward to decrease tension. After several minor adjustments have been made it will be necessary to make a major adjustment. A major adjustment is made as follows:

MaJor
The rod and yoke adjustment is made by removing the yoke pin from the brake lever and loosen the lock nut, Figure 72. The yoke can then be turned on or off for the required adjustment. Tighten the lock nut after adjustment has been made.
CAUTION After the parking brake has been adjusted several times the brake liIJ.ing wear should be checked as follows:
1. Disconnect the adjusting yoke from the brake lever, Figure 72.
2. Check the travel of the brake lever - if the travel exceeds 1-5/8 inches - when disconnected from the yoke - the brake linings must be replaced,,

BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTMENT
THE NORMAL SHOE ADJUSTMENT TO COMPENSATE FOR LINING WEAR IS MADE WITH THE ECCENTRIC CAM ADJUSTMENT ONLY.
Raise the Loader wheel clear of the floor and turn the eccentric cam down, Figure 73, to bring the brake shoe into contact with the drum, back off sufficiently to permit a free rolling wheel. Follow the procedure on all the other eccentric cams.

Anchor Pin Adjustment
When new brake linings are installed or the original anchor pin adjustments have been changed, the following adjustments must be carefully made to properly locate the curvature of the lining to the drum and to obtain the proper clearance between the lining and drum.
With the wheel raised clear of floor move the eccentric cam down Figure 73, to bringthe brake lining into slight contact with the drum, while rotating the wheel. (a slight drag will be felt as the brake shoe contacts the drum) .
Loosen the anchor pin locknut and rotate the anchor pin slightly in either direction to relieve the drag. Again move the eccentric cam until a slight drag is felt, rotate the anchor pin the slight amount required to relieve the drag. Hepeat this procedure until movement of the anchor pin will no longer relieve drag. Tighten the anchor pin locknut, make sure the anchor pin does not move from the final settings. Repeat this procedure on all the other anchor pins.
