Removing/refitting the wheel shafts20.29SI

Note: In order to remove the universal shafts, it is necessary to first remove the wheel pivot.

Universal shaft, wheel side

–The universal shaft can easily be extracted once the wheel pivot has been removed. –Check the shafts and splines. –Replace the spiders(129) if worn or damaged (fig. 58).

Universal shaft, differential side

–The nut and grub screw securing the universal joint on the 2sides of the axle must be removed (fig. 66). –The pressure on the torsion bars must be released to move the lower arm away freely and, in some cases, the torsion bar must be removed altogether. –Pull out and extract the universal joint protector.

Important: During the assembly of parts (132) and (134), line up the jaws of these two parts. Under no circumstances must the jaws be offset by 90°.

–On refitting, lubricate and insert the combined joints(136) using tool n°60 0500 656 0 and tool n°60 0500 656 1. –Refit the wheel pivot. –Perform the final operations.
