PROPERTY TALK

What goes on behind the scenes

WHAT does FCPIA do? This is a valid question and one we are often asked. While FCPIA holds events, training, and workshops, 90% of our focus is on policy issues to do with Local and State Government. As an industry body, it is our role to work collaboratively with government organisations to find better outcomes for our region. We are at the table strongly advocating for the property industry and putting the private sector and community view to many issues. While we mainly try to work in with the agencies, our role as an industry body often sees us disagreeing or lobbying a point or policy change for the benefit of the region. Our committee and membership have a lot of industry experts, including

town planners, engineers, lawyers, builders, property consultants and other professionals. Therefore, we have a clear insight into market conditions and community demands that Council often does not get to see. We have entered a formal Memorandum of Understanding with Fraser Coast Regional Council to ensure we have regular structured discussions on policy. The Fraser Coast is at another major crossroads now, where we are maturing into a sustainable city. The new Town Planning Scheme is due out within the next couple of years. This means Council and State Government forecast through to around 2041 what this region will be like in areas such as population,

demographics, employment, housing types, development boundaries, and infrastructure requirements, including water, sewerage, roads, and schools. This process is massive and constantly happens behind the scenes, with many expert consultants doing studies and presenting reports to Council. This is where FCPIA comes into its own locally. With our expertise and in-depth market knowledge, we often challenge or add to these studies. Our members volunteer a lot of hours going through the proposed changes and adding value to what is proposed. A strong FCPIA membership is crucial to better outcomes for our future.
