Interview Edmund Breyton 1. To most people interested in the car tuning field “Breyton” is a well-known brand, and also one that most people would associate with premium quality and premium design. Please tell us how it all started; what is your background and when did you start designing wheels?

Later I studied computer science at the University of Applied Sciences. A big part of these studies was the area of Matthemattics. This helps me a lot today then all these FEM calculations as well the calculations for the impact-test; we are doing it in our house itself.

The date of foundation from my company was already in year 1982.

In the year 1987 we have been started the wheel business with our first wheel design so called ”7 SPOKE”. In the meantime we are one of the companies with the largest wheel program for BMW cars.

We have been started to develop and designing aerodynamic parts for other companies like AMG, LORINSER, AC SCHNITZER, and BMW Munich.Later we are developed and produced our own Breyton Aerodynamic Parts as well Car Interior parts and other TUNING parts.

After an apprenticeship as an electrician; first I need to make up the night school to reach the university entrance. Then I attended the technical school with an electronics degree.

2. You seem to have pulled off the extraordinary feat to “capture the spirit” of BMW, designing wheels that look original but actually beat the originals any day of the week in terms of design. How do you go about when you make a new design, and how do you make the “spiritual connection” that makes it so obvious it is designed for a BMW? That’s an easy question.

First: It is particularly very important that you have to love your work, and this I do.

Secondly: When I’m designing a new aluminum wheel, I’m always looking at the whole picture; that means car together with the wheel design what needs to be developed.

Third: In nearly almost of all the cases I am not satisfied with my own creations. I’m always looking for improvement.

Maybe that makes the difference.

3. Since a few years back you have also started designing wheels for Audi and other VW vehicles.

Was this your own initiative or were you approached?

Many people (not BMW drivers) have written to us that they really like our wheel designs,

and they have asked whether we could also make designs for other cars. That was the reason to start the second brand ”BE”.

Meanwhile, we also develop rim designs for other major tuning companies whose names we cannot mention, of course.

4. Looking forward, where is the Breyton brand going in the near future; will you be expanding to other car brands as well?

That´s happened already. We have already developed our first forged wheels for PORSCHE cars.

5.How strong is the connection between Breyton and BMW, will we ever see an originally fitted Breyton package for factory built BMW’s, like the M-package?

That is a difficult question, but nobody knows what will be in future. Maybe this can be possible.

6. Can you please tell us about the manufacturing process of a Breyton Wheel?

In the meantime we produce Breyton wheels in three technologies: CASTING wheels, FLOW forming wheels and FORGED wheels.

Our producers we choose very carefully and our producers have a lot of experience with the wheel business. That is for me personally very important; to get always high product quality for all my customers.

7. Is there any person; designer, artist, race car driver or otherwise, that have inspired you to pursue the amazing career you have had?

First of all, my career was not amazing; it was rather hard work and sweat.

I need to thank to my wife and family, because they supported me a lot. Anyway, now I’m happy with my laurels.

Maybe there were some persons which have influenced my work and me personally. But I don´t know it really and I am not able to remember me on single persons.
