Corten Steel Type / Our planters are made from Corten steel type, a structural steel with high mechanical strength and exceptional durability in outdoor conditions.

Unlike conventional steel, Corten steel is an alloy that includes copper, chromium, and nickel. This alloy promotes the formation of a protective surface patina of rust that acts as a barrier against corrosion, eliminating the need for additional coatings.

Over time, the oxidation process stabilizes, and the protective layer prevents further corrosion, safeguarding the piece from degradation and significantly extending its lifespan.

It is a recyclable material and contains no paint, making it a more environmentally friendly option.

Oxidation Process

Rust-free corten steel, with the metal's own

Rust patina / Appearance after several weeks

Corten+ rust accelerator

Corten+ is an acid-free rust accelerator, safe and easy to apply, ideal for Corten steel. Provides fast and uniform oxidation without damaging the material, following these steps:

1. Degrease the metal surface before use (e.g., with alcohol). Sanding the surface is recommended for a more even finish.

2. Apply the rust accelerator evenly using a roller.

3. After 30 minutes, the surface will begin to develop a bluish tint. If there are uncolored areas, reapply as the initial layer was insufficient. After 2 hours, apply water or more accelerator if needed.

4. Oxidation will continue for about 2 weeks. The initial orange hue will darken gradually until it reaches the characteristic tone of stable rust. If the weather is dry, continue spraying the surface with water occasionally over the following days.

Corten+ Varnish: Additional protection

In projects with intensive irrigation systems or located in areas with heavy rainfall, it is recommended to apply a protective varnish to the interior of the planters. This helps prevent the deterioration of Corten steel caused by continuous exposure to moisture.

For exterior surfaces, varnish can also be applied depending on the desired finish or to prevent possible staining on surrounding pavement.

Acelerador de óxido Corten+

Corten+ es un acelerador de óxido sin ácidos, seguro y fácil de aplicar, ideal para acero Corten. Proporciona una oxidación rápida y uniforme sin dañar el material, siguiendo estos pasos:

1. Desengrar la superficie metálica antes de usarla (por ejemplo, con alcohol). Es recomendable lijar la superficie para un acabado más uniforme.

2. Aplicar el acelerador de óxido de forma uniforme con un rodillo.

3. Después de 30 minutos, la superficie empezará a tomar un tono azulado. Si hay zonas sin color, reaplicar porque la capa no fue suficiente. Tras 2 horas, aplicar agua o más acelerante si hace falta.

4. La oxidación continuará durante 2 semanas. El color naranja inicial se irá oscureciendo hasta alcanzar el tono característico del óxido estable. Si el clima es seco, continúe rociando la superficie con agua de vez en cuando durante los próximos días.

Barniz Corten+: Protección adicional

En proyectos con sistemas de riego intensivo o ubicados en zonas de alta pluviosidad, se recomienda aplicar un barniz protector en el interior de las jardineras. Esta medida ayuda a prevenir el deterioro del acero Corten causado por la exposición continua a la humedad.

Para las superficies exteriores, puede optar por utilizar tambien barniz dependiendo del acabado que dese o para evitar posibles manchas en el pavimento.

Corten+ accélérateur de rouille

Corten+ est un accélérateur de rouille sans acide, sûr et facile à appliquer, idéal pour l’acier Corten. Assure une oxydation rapide et uniforme sans endommager le matériau, en suivant ces étapes :

1. Dégraisser la surface métallique avant utilisation (par exemple avec de l’alcool). Il est recommandé de poncer la surface pour un rendu plus homogène.

2. Appliquer l’accélérateur de rouille de manière uniforme à l’aide d’un rouleau.

3. Après 30 minutes, la surface commencera à prendre une teinte bleutée. S’il reste des zones sans couleur, réappliquer car la couche initiale n’était pas suffisante. Après 2 heures, appliquer de l’eau ou plus d’accélérateur si nécessaire.

4. Le processus d’oxydation se poursuivra pendant environ 2 semaines. La teinte orange initiale s’assombrira progressivement jusqu’à atteindre la couleur caractéristique de la rouille stabilisée. En cas de temps sec, continuez à vaporiser de l’eau sur la surface de temps à autre pendant les jours suivants.

Corten+ Vernis: Protection supplémentaire

Dans les projets avec des systèmes d’irrigation intensifs ou situés dans des zones à forte pluviométrie, il est recommandé d’appliquer un vernis protecteur à l’intérieur des jardinières. Cette mesure aide à prévenir la détérioration de l’acier Corten due à une exposition prolongée à l’humidité.

Pour les surfaces extérieures, il est également possible d’appliquer un vernis selon le rendu souhaité ou pour éviter d’éventuelles taches sur le sol environnant.

*To keep the cable hidden, it must be passed through the drainage hole before filling the planter with soil. Use the 20mm diameter corrugated hose to protect the cable from moisture inside planter.
