The Herringbone Difference: Our Ethos Craftmanship - Sustainability - Giving Back

Craftmanship We are a small family business. Our bespoke kitchens are made in our workshop in Canterbury by our team of master craftspeople. By using Herringbone Kitchens, you are supporting carpenters, joiners, and designers. Our joiners make each piece of furniture using traditional techniques and modern machinery. Our skilled joiners work with you throughout the fit, to make the project as seamless as possible. Continued learning is an important aspect of our company, we are always discovering new materials, techniques, and design technology.

We work closely as a team and have strong progressive policies in place to make sure our team is supported and well-trained, including flexible working and parental leave. We hope this helps bridge the current generation gap in carpentry and makes the area more appealing as a career choice. One that celebrates and values creativity, diversity, craftsmanship and problem solving.

Sustainability Sustainability is a huge part of our ethos and we are dedicated to implementing sustainable practices in our business. We believe the ingredient to long lasting kitchens is using considered materials that have been well cared for.

Every material used in your kitchen cabinet is from companies with strong sustainability records. In that way, we know that our kitchens are not just valued by our clients but are good for the earth and future generations. Our timbers are sourced from well-managed, responsible forests where the cycle of clearing and replanting has been continuous for many generations.

We only use water based low VOC paint, which is very rare in this industry. While it was not the easy option, we felt it was true to our ethos. Every month, for each kitchen we make, we dedicate a tree to the National Forest, a regeneration project across 200 square miles in the Midlands. Once you have decided to go ahead with your design, you will receive a certificate for your tree, which we will plant in your name.

Giving Back

Catching Lives Our team understands how fortunate we all are to have warm homes. As a company we are proud to support a homelessness charity ‘Catching Lives’.

Catching Lives supports vulnerable homeless people in our community in Canterbury, taking care of the basic needs of rough sleeper by providing food, shelter, mental health support and advocacy.

Throughout the year we volunteer as a team at the day shelter and make breakfast and lunch. It is something everyone in the team looks forward to.

Additionally, a portion of all our profit goes to Catching Lives so they can continue their amazing work, reducing homelessness.

Covid-19 Response Since this crisis first began in early 2020, we have worked hard to keep our ethos at the heart of all we do and decisions we take, for our team, our clients and how we support our community. Being a small business in 2020 has had (a few) challenges, but mostly we’ve had more rewards than ever before. We feel very lucky to have had the privilege to use our resources for the better.

While the workshop was shut, a few members of our team decided to help volunteer to design and make 600 visors for the local NHS and care homes. We feel very privileged we were able to use our tools to help.

How It All Works Get In Touch If you have a budget in mind but are unsure of how much your new kitchen might cost, you can send us an email with your floor plans, architect drawings or dimensions of the kitchen and we will provide a rough estimate.

Visit Us Next step is to book an appointment for a Design Consultation with one of our kitchen designers. This can be over Zoom or in our studio. During your design consultation, you and your designer will talk through all your desires and requirements for your new kitchen. This can be booked online or by ringing us.

Design Review Your designer will then design your kitchen and produce a quote. Because everything we design is bespoke to fit your brief, this takes time and will be completed within 2 weeks from your Design Consultation. If you decide to go ahead with us, a 10% deposit secures the date, and we will release any plans your builders might need. You are able to change your design up to 10 weeks before your installation date.

Pre Fit Survey The next step is your pre-fit survey, which must be at least 6 weeks before your installation begins. Our workshop manager will visit you to survey the room and take precise measurements of the space so we can start making your kitchen in our workshop!

Making Your Kitchen At this stage you are more than welcome to come visit our workshop to see your kitchen being made and speak to the craftspeople who are working on your kitchen. Every element is bespoke and made for you.

Installation Get the kettle ready! Our fitters will start installing your kitchen. This can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to complete,

The Whitstable Kitchen This beautiful family of four in Whitstable approached us to create their dream seaside kitchen. The design features bespoke cabinetry from our Rye range, painted in a stunning bespoke light green colour. The burnished brass handles, tap & pan rail add warmth to the space as well as keeping with the essence of the rest of the family home.

“Our kitchen was always going to be the most important space in our home. We moved into a cottage which needed serious renovations in Kent five years ago. And a few months later I discovered Herringbone Kitchens who I think we’re just getting going and realised immediately that we would get them to help create our dream kitchen. What I can say is that both Will and Elly have a world of experience, vision, and a lot of patience. We knew instinctively how we wanted our kitchen to look.

Herringbone helped us visualise this and their impressive input about design and practicalities was so helpful. The Shoreditch Kitchen This 1920’s inspired kitchen features bespoke cabinetry from our Westgate range, satin brass streamlined handles and the most striking slabs of black and orange granite for their splashback and worktops.

“When we began researching kitchen renovations all we found and heard were horror stories (delays, unreliable builders, mistakes, or other mishaps). Thanks to Herringbone Kitchens, we didn’t encounter any of that.

The moment we stepped into their unique Canterbury studio and met Will and Elly; we knew that this was the only company that could bring our art deco dreams in a 90’s build into fruition.

From our initial design consultation to the duration of our fitting the Herringbone team not only took care of all our concerns (this being our first kitchen renovation) but they did so in such a personal manner.

No detail was overlooked. With their creative bespoke solutions, we were able to maximise every nook and cranny of our Shoreditch flat. We are beyond pleased with the result and can’t imagine another company could have realised our somewhat unconventional vision the way Herringbone did.

The Holland Park Kitchen “The whole process was exactly what you would expect from a small business personal with real attention to detail. We would particularly like to call out the guys in the workshop and fitters - the cabinets really are beautifully made and there doesn’t seem to be a limit to what they can make in the workshop.”

The Holland Park Kitchen: The Design We completed this stunning kitchen near Holland Park in January 2020 and the whole Herringbone Team is incredibly proud of what we created! Our lovely client wanted bespoke cabinetry in our Westminster range, it is a simple take on the traditional shaker door, without the decorative beading that the Rye range has.

This design features two long cabinetry runs on either wall running parallel to each other, with a large kitchen island in the middle. The island hosts seating and the kitchen sink, making it a social hub of the home. The most striking part of this kitchen’s design has to be the long run of cabinetry featuring reeded glass doors.

“We knew we wanted lots of storage, but were also nervous about the kitchen feeling too cluttered and dark with the low ceiling - William presented us with lots of different glass options to keep things light and we love the reeded glass cabinetry we have as a result... there’s almost too much storage!”

The Details: Hardware, Colours & Worktops A stunning Dekton was chosen for their worktops. Dekton is an extremely practical worktop option as it is a non-porous material and highly resistant to scratches, stains, abrasion, heat as well as ice and thawing. It comes in many different colours mimicking beautiful marbles and granites.

For the main cabinetry, the client chose to go with ‘Grosvenor Square’ by Mylands a neutral, off-white colour maintaining their bright and airy feel of the space.

“We ended up going to the studio twice to look at colours and handles, with completely different outcomes. William and Coco were really patient with our indecisiveness, and really helped us be bold (for us!) with colour - we love the dark island and now strongly recommend our friends to consider more colour!”

A combination of pull handles, knobs and T-bars was used to dress the bespoke cabinetry, all in a gorgeous satin brass finish.

These handles are a big favourite amongst the Herringbone Team for their beautiful knurled edges and ability to transform any unit.

The Bromley Kitchen This kitchen is dramatic, glamorous and timeless.

With bespoke cabinetry from our Westminster range, painted in Downing Street from Mylands and burnished brass handles adding a hint of an industrial feel.

“This was the first time we’ve put in a new kitchen and as this is our ‘forever home’ it felt like a huge decision. We had an idea of what we wanted but went to see a few companies to get different ideas.

As soon as we left our appointment at Herringbone, we just looked at each other and knew we wanted them to do our kitchen. We were impressed by the quality of the cabinets and liked the family feel of the business.

William understood what we wanted, even things we didn’t know ourselves. I asked for chrome taps but he pointed out every photo I’d sent him of my ‘ideal kitchen’ had brass taps and that decision alone made a huge difference to the look of our final kitchen! He asked us things we hadn’t even thought about and answered all our questions even if some were probably obvious.

The family feel of the company extended to the Herringbone fitters who were professional and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. We couldn’t be happier with our new kitchen which is a great entertaining space and family room. We now eat together as a family so much more and our older boys have even started learning how to cook! You can’t ask more from a kitchen than that!”

The Upminster Kitchen This design includes an L shaped run with a mixture of units in our Westminster range. A medium island nestled in the middle features open-shelving for cook books and easy to access bits and bobs. The cabinetry was painted in Mylands’ ‘Bond Street’ and ‘Grosvenor Square’ for the island.

“We love our new kitchen. It was challenging overseeing the build of the house and coupled with the kitchen build, stress levels were high! In hindsight we were worrying unnecessarily - the Herringbone team worked really well together to project manage the kitchen build and navigated it really well with those involved.

The Southampton Kitchen & Office “From the moment we came across Herringbone online, we knew there was no other option for our new kitchen! Visiting the studio in Canterbury was so exciting. The team are obviously extremely knowledgeable about all thing’s kitchen design! Their values focus on quality and attention to detail really stood out throughout the whole process.

The fitters were all brilliant and clearly take immense pride in their work. The Southampton Kitchen & Office: The Design We recently completed this project for a family in Southampton and we are in love with the final results! Our clients requested an L shape run of cabinetry, a kitchen island in a contrasting colour, as well as a bespoke office area just off the kitchen.

This open plan kitchen features bespoke cabinetry from our Westgate range, named after the Westgate Towers in Canterbury. This modern shaker style kitchen is unique in that it has a thinner frame and T-bars between the units.

“When we decided we needed a new kitchen, we already had quite a few ideas. We’re all for a house looking great, but it has to be practical too. With 3 teenagers in the house, it’s pretty busy, so we wanted something that was able to be super organised, functional and above all an efficient use of the space, that would provide us with a sociable, easy going and welcoming heart to our home.”

The Details For this kitchen, our clients chose a mixture of our pull and knob handles in satin brass.

The colour of these handles brings some warmth to the otherwise cool tone kitchen, while the knurled detailing on them adds texture and design complexity. The main run of cabinetry is painted in Mylands ‘Sloane Square’, a beautiful off-white and ‘Downing Street’ for the island a chalky black.

The Floating Desk & Shelves Our clients requested an office area for the family to work or do homework at the end of the kitchen. We designed a floating desk big enough for two with two drawers for office storage and two floating shelves overhead, all made from gorgeous solid oak.

“We wanted our kitchen to bring everyone in the family together. We have our own business, so have to work from home at times, and that combined with homework and how integral IT and ‘home admin has become into our lives, we wanted an area that could be used for this type of work within the kitchen space. It works so well.

If one of the kids needs help with homework, you can be pottering in the kitchen or cooking dinner and are on hand, it’s just as we envisaged!”

The Double Larder & Kitchen Storage The large double larder houses three oak shelves and three deep oak drawers as well as a cold shelf in a white Quartz ‘Calacatta Gold’ matching the kitchen worktops. This is a great way to create continuity and harmony in the kitchen and makes cleaning any spillages extra easy.

On the other side of the kitchen is another tall larder unit with a whopping 7 oak shelves, perfect to house all of the family’s tableware and crockery. We love finding room for any additional storage our clients might need, here we also added an extra bit of storage above the American fridge / freezer unit for extra storage.

The Woodford Kitchen & Utility We designed this beautiful kitchen for an equally beautiful family in Woodford. This design features cabinetry from our Rye range painted in Mylands’ ‘Borough Market’ with oak and burnished brass accents throughout. The kitchen has a gorgeous dresser with bi-fold doors and an antiqued mirror splashback behind their range.

“Our journey with Herringbone started just over two years ago. Herringbone had a portfolio of designs we really liked, but what made Herringbone stand out from the crowd was the personal touch. This started from the welcoming feeling you got right from the moment you enter the showroom till the final day of installation.

Throughout our long journey, Will has been amazing, always responsive to our questions, and I mean question after question. He even helped us to choose the colour for our bi-fold doors, which we didn’t even buy through Herringbone. The Herringbone team handled every change incredibly, adapting the design until we were happy. Even on such late notice, they made our last-minute changes possible.

We want to express a huge thank you to Herringbone for the wonderful experience and the impeccable quality of the work, they’ve made our kitchen such a lovely place to be in. The Herringbone business is absolutely wonderful, with some amazing people within it. From the very first moment, we were really struck by the sense of family within the business, which really appealed to us.

The Sevenoaks Kitchen & Pantry “We had the most fantastic experience with Herringbone. From our initial trip down to Canterbury, we knew that David completely understood the style of kitchen we wanted and his attention to detail was exceptional. The craftsmanship of the units is fantastic, and Joe was amazing at installing the kitchen, his perfectionism and attention to detail was so impressive!

At the end of quite a long building project to get the space right so that we could have a bigger family kitchen it was a joy to have Herringbone on-site, it was obvious from the moment they arrived that they wanted us to have our perfect kitchen and would do their upmost to make sure we got it. We saved on other areas in order to have a Herringbone kitchen and we are so glad we did.�

The Sevenoaks Kitchen: The Design This beautiful kitchen in Sevenoaks is in our Westgate range. Our lovely clients chose their main run of cabinetry to be painted in Mylands’ ‘Threadneedle’ a soft pink, and ‘Bond Street, a navy blue for their island. Painting their walls in the same pinky hue as their cabinetry, enhances the already tall ceilings and creates a very easy streamlined and timeless look.

One very striking aspect of this kitchen is the deliberate absence of wall units above the sink. By adding quartz decorative shelving instead of large units, the space feels larger and draws the eye up to the tall ceiling and skylight.

“Because our previous kitchen was so dark and cramped, we knew we wanted to keep the space open and clear. I felt that putting cupboards on that wall would have broken the height and interfered with the feeling of space as it would stop the eye being drawn upwards. I wanted to use decorative shelves to make sure I had my coffee essentials close to hand!”

The Hardware For their hardware, our clients chose a combination of our knobs and pull handles in a burnished brass finish.

These handles pair beautifully with the Westgate cabinetry range and rippled glass doors, giving the space a very elegant 1920’s inspired look.

The Pantry Our clients and their designer David, were able to make excellent use of the existing space, including this deep alcove. By adding shelves, doors and spice racks, all painted in the same Threadneedle, we were able to create a walk-in pantry large enough for all the client’s food storage as well as an excellent hiding spot for their microwave.

Extending the stone flooring into this pantry, creates a harmonic continuity in the space.

The Balham Kitchen This lovely couple in Balham wanted their bespoke cabinetry in our Rye range and painted in a dark green colour ‘Borough Market’ by Mylands. We loved working on this kitchen, especially their bespoke banquette seating under the large window.

The Battersea Kitchen We recently completed this stunningly bright kitchen in Battersea. Our clients chose the Rye range of cabinetry, painted in ‘Temple Bar’ and ‘Rothschild Street’, both by Mylands for their chef’s table (which we cannot stop staring at). We were so excited to see the use of the plum purple colour of the chef’s table as it is something we have seen a lot more of this year.

I love our new kitchen. We asked for a number of bespoke items: curved edges on our cabinets, an in drawer knife block and a wine rack. All of these were approached with excitement and rigour but most importantly work brilliantly in real life.

We got so many additional ideas from being In the show room. We understood so much better what we would be getting. Having worked in property development I know everyone being clear about what is to be delivered from the outset is key to a harmonious installation.

The Surrey Kitchen With bespoke cabinetry in our Rye range and painted in our most popular paint colour by far, ‘Bond Street’ by Mylands, this kitchen extension offers industrialism meets classic elegance. The brass accents bring warmth and colour to the room. Our clients chose our Herringbone Knobs and pull handles, both in a satin brass finish, tying in excellently with the spectacular industrial light over the kitchen island.

The Blackheath Kitchen & Banquette Seating “Lovely, professional and thorough. David was incredibly collaborative and patient, especially with my many wobbles and indecisiveness. I really appreciated his reassurance, especially during the installation process. We have also been very impressed with how the Herringbone team have followed up post-installation. We now have the kitchen we always wanted, the beautiful heart of our home.�

The Blackheath Kitchen: The Design This kitchen features a long run of wall units with beautiful reeded glass doors. Reeded glass keep the space feeling open and light, while giving a bit of a hint to what’s inside each cabinet.

There are glass shelves inside the cabinets which have LED downlights fit inside them, these do require a little more maintenance but the warm glow inside the units when the lights go on in the evening will make this all worth the effort. We love the details of the little cabinets above the American fridge freezer for extra storage!

The double larder behind the hob has five beautiful oak shelves, two painted spice racks on each door and three drawers below, perfect for pots and pans. This is a lovely way to maximise storage space and is a convenient location by the hob so you can grab spices quickly while cooking!

“We had an idea of what we were after, but David really brought it to life for us. Settling on the kitchen style itself was relatively easy, and spending time in the studio talking through options with David for handles etc made the process much easier.

Making a final decision on the colours was harder - mainly because I couldn’t make up my mind! but we got there in the end, and we’re really happy with our choice.”

Hardware & Decorative Tiles For their splashback, our clients chose the ‘Carter’ Ceramic Tile in the colour ‘Rose’ and arranged them in a half-offset subway tile pattern. These beautifully mirror the exposed brick directly opposite the kitchen run and add a bright and cheery element to the space.

“The pink tiles were chosen by our daughter, who really wanted the whole kitchen to be pink!”

The clients chose a combination of pull handles for their kitchen cabinetry and knobs on the top of their banquette seating, a clever way to attach bench seat cushions! These solid-brass cabinet pull handles have a precision engineered diamond knurl which creates an industrial look. This handle is a versatile design, we have used it on traditional shaker doors and contemporary flat doors.

Bespoke Banquette Seating We have seen a lot more requests for banquette seating recently and it’s obviously why. As well as being a beautiful, social piece of furniture, they are also incredibly practical by creating additional storage underneath.

The Oxted Kitchen This beautiful bespoke kitchen belongs to a lovely family of four in Oxted. The clients chose a beautiful green colour. We especially love the open-shelving on the end of the large kitchen island; perfect for displaying and storing cookbooks or the kids activity books.

The Peckham Rye Kitchen & Utility Room “From start to finish (and beyond!), the Herringbone team has been incredible. The Pekham Rye Kitchen: The Design Our lovely clients, Isobel and Jeremy, set off on a journey to renovate their Victorian terraced house in South London and ‘lovingly restore to its former glory’ as they put it, and we are so honoured to have been a part of that through bringing their kitchen and utility room visions to life. For their bespoke kitchen, our clients chose cabinetry from our Westminster range, our more traditional shaker style kitchen. The design incudes a run of cabinetry with open shelving above the large Belfast sink, a large kitchen island parallel and a showstopping mustard yellow dresser unit.

“We wanted our kitchen to be functional of course, but also for it to be a beautiful space - hence loving David’s idea of the open marble shelves, which allow us to display cookbooks, plants, photos, and things we love. Having come across Herringbone Kitchens a good few years ago, we knew that when we had a home that we planned to be in for many years to come, that we’d want a kitchen that was truly ours. Our home was a big renovation project, where a lot of work was needed - a bespoke kitchen meant that we got to choose (with David’s direction and exper-tise) all the elements to make it really work for us, as well as really reflect our style and personality.”

The Details: Colours & Hardware In both the kitchen and the utility, a combination of handle and knobs in a satin brass finish were used creating a sense of continuity.

These unique and custom-made knobs and pulls feature a knurled detail adding texture and a slightly industrial element to the space.

For their colours, our clients chose a gorgeous dark, deep green for their main cabinetry run and island and a mustard yellow for their display cabinet. For their bespoke utility room, a light, plaster pink was chosen to keep the narrow space feeling bright and serene.

The Yellow Dresser Certainly the main focus of this kitchen design is the bespoke yellow dresser. The stand-out unit fits floor to ceiling with classic cornice and skirting to give a fitted and bespoke appearance in keeping with the rest of the kitchen.

Lining the back of the dresser with antiqued mirror to reflect the light from the large, sliding windows directly opposite, this dresser brings the outside in. The antiqued element of the mirror specifically was chosen for additional texture as well as coordinating with the aura of the property. Plain, clear glass however was used for the sides and fronts of the cabinet doors, to open up the unit and allow the antique mirror behind to take centre stage while also displaying the client’s decorative items within.

The Wandsworth Kitchen & Walk-In Pantry This serene kitchen features bespoke cabinetry from our Rye range, with traditional cock-bead around the door frames, painted in Mylands’ ‘Bond Street’ for the island. We absolutely love the open shelving on the front of the island, as well as the cosy walk in pantry and coffee station.

The Epsom Kitchen We recently completed this stunning kitchen for a family in Epsom! This project was so much fun to work on and our lovely clients had a clear vision for their dream kitchen. The Applegate Kitchen: The Design Back in 2018, we completed a project very different to our usual Herringbone shaker style kitchen. A lovely couple approached us with a vision for their seaside kitchen and together we created The Applegate kitchen range, which is actually named after the clients who requested it!

The design of this range is rather different than our others, with flat doors and units flush to the ground as well as cut out handles for a more modern, streamlined look.

“Living opposite the sea, we had lots of ideas for our kitchen and visualised a light, bright open space, smart but informal, timeless but with a contemporary “Scandi” feel.”

The Details The units were painted in a gorgeous pale, pastel mint colour. This dreamy light hue keeps the space feeling airy yet still adding a bit of colour to the space and contrasts beautifully against the natural oak inside the cabinetry and bar stools.

White metro style tiles arranged in a Herringbone pattern were placed behind the range cooker as a splashback. These add such great texture and dimension to the kitchen, especially against the darker grout colour which pulls in the stainless steel of the range below.

The Bespoke Banquette Seating Across the kitchen island and under the bay window, sits a bespoke bench seat in the same cabinetry design as the rest of the kitchen’s units. This not only helps keep that end of the room cohesive and included to rest of the space, but also creates a wonderfully social element to the kitchen with additional storage space underneath. Perfect for bulkier items and gadgets not as frequently used.

Our personal requests were incorporated, such as “cut in“ handles, oak tray drawers, a window seat with storage and a large utility cupboard that would be both practical and beautiful. The kitchen installation was very professional, with attention to detail, such as a tiled Herringbone pattern splashback (a nod to William!!!) created with perfection.”

The Tooting Kitchen We love how much personality this kitchen in Tooting has! Our clients chose their bespoke cabinetry from our Westminster range, a traditional Shaker style design, painted all around in Mylands’ famous deep green ‘Borough Market’.

The Caterham Kitchen, Utility & Wine Storage We completed this kitchen & utility project for our lovely clients in Caterham. This project was so much fun to work on; it includes two runs of cabinetry, a small island in the heart of the room as well as some unique additions like floating shelves, banquette seating in the adjacent utility room and the most spectacular wine rack.

The Caterham Kitchen, Utility & Wine Storage: The Design We completed this kitchen for a client in Caterham and it is really a show stopper of a room!

Our lovely clients chose to have their bespoke cabinetry in the bespoke Rye range, painted in Mylands ‘Oratory’.

These gorgeous grey veined Volakas marble worktops and upstands pick up the cool colour tone from the cabinetry and adds dimension with its swirly veins. Our clients chose to have their upstands go all the way up to the wall units, something that adds a certain grandness to a space.

An overhang was considered when designing the island to include seating for an island. An island is one of the easiest ways of making your kitchen the social hub of the house. As we are bespoke, we can make your island / breakfast bar any shape or size to suit your needs.

The client chose a combination of pull handles and round, flat faced knobs in a gorgeous copper finish. These stand out beautifully against the cabinetry colour in a bold yet soft balance.

Floating Shelves Five floating shelves painted in the same ‘Oratory’ blue grey colour sit in the small alcove between the kitchen and utility.

Painting these the same colour as the units, creates a lovely intentional sense of continuity and is an excellent way of displaying cookbooks and favourite items.

The Wine Rack Under The Stairs Probably one of the most spectacular parts of this kitchen is the cascading bespoke wine rack fit right under the stairs. This oak piece is a beautiful way to store and display the couples collection of wines. The guys at the workshop had so much fun making this, but probably not as much fun as the client is having with it over lockdown.

Utility & Banquette Seating We have seen such an increase in demand for utility spaces incorporated with kitchen designs. Having the cabinetry style, colour and fixings mirror the kitchen creates a lovely flow in and out of the rooms and a cohesive style throughout the house. The bespoke seating in the utility room is not only stunning and dressed in the same copper handles, but also serves a practical purpose as a perfect place for setting down any laundry, taking off shoes from coming in and out of the garden, as well as simply having a chinwag with your family or a friend while you load the washing machine! It was also so much fun to make!

The Nackington Kitchen This kitchen is a real showstopper. The client chose to have a beautiful three metre island as the social hub of the home. “The kitchen was part of building our forever home so we wanted to get it right from the start. We felt that by having a bespoke kitchen we were able to get everything we wanted without having to compromise . Herringbone have been

fantastic and we loved seeing our ideas come into fruition. Luke and the team totally captured how we like to live and made it a reality.�

The Nackington Kitchen: The Design We recently completed this stunning bespoke kitchen for a lovely family in Nackington near Canterbury!

“We new we really wanted a great social space but it had to be really practical for busy family life. This totally delivers on all parts, it looks amazing but has everything in it that a busy family needs, four huge bins, clever storage solutions, plenty of surface space!”

The long kitchen island and larder unit was painted in Mylands’ ‘Borough Market’ and the island in ‘Sloane Square.’

“Our home has influences of dark blue and teal in it already, so Borough Market was quite a simple choice for our larder cupboard and island, however, we wanted something lighter to contrast with our dark blue Everhot and that’s how we chose Sloane Square. We had the same worktop in our old kitchen and loved it so new we wanted it again.”

We absolutely love the three hidden, oak drawers next to the clients’ Everhot oven.

Housing their spices, oils etc, it’s a very different and accessible way of storing these everyday items and makes this kitchen even more unique.

This beautiful double dresser unit sports bi-fold doors, making it easy to keep open without them getting in the way. Inside it features three oak shelves as well as a cold shelf to match the kitchen worktop: a gorgeous white and lightly veined Quartz in ‘Lagoon’. A cold shelf is an excellent choice for areas that may see more spills from things like coffee machines, microwaves or even toaster crumbs as it is so easy to clean. Additionally, two drawers for utensils and two more cupboards sit below for storage.

“Love this cupboard of dreams, it houses everything from our coffee machine (essential!) to dry goods mugs and everything in between. You can shut the doors and hide away our organised mess. Couldn’t live without it, we went for this style over a traditional larder as we didn’t want a really deep cupboard on that particular wall it does everything we want it too whilst looking great.”

The Pinstripe Kitchen We recently completed this family kitchen in Surrey, and we are so smitten with this project! It’s a simple layout of an island parallel to a run of units in a large open plan living space and it is simply stunning. Our clients chose our Westminster bespoke kitchen cabinetry range painted in Mylands ‘Grosvenor Square’ for the units and ‘Bond Street’ for the large kitchen island. They took great consideration in the colour choice of their cabinetry, keeping the colour palette in harmony with their living room furniture.

The Hammersmith Kitchen, Utility & Pantry “We were really happy to find Herringbone. Everyone from the team was a pleasure to work with, so the whole process was really easy and as stress-free as we could have hoped for. When we came to the studio to meet Will, we felt like we had plenty of time to discuss the kitchen and play with different options in a really relaxed way.

We had looked at some other kitchen companies who were offering modular systems for a similar price but being able to go totally bespoke meant that we could really make a kitchen that worked for us. We also loved the Herringbone aesthetic, so we were able to pick a kitchen style and hardware in the studio without hours trawling the internet in search of the perfect handle - as we were doing a whole house reno-vation, avoiding decision fatigue was key!�

The Hammermith Kitchen: The Design We designed this kitchen for a lovely family in Hammersmith. This stunning space features a long run of base units with an oven tower unit on one end, a wine fridge on the other and three wall units in the middle. Across from the main run sits a tall bookcase, a framed American fridge freezer, a single larder unit and a breakfast and coffee station on the end. In between these is a large kitchen island / chefs table hybrid with seating for three.

The Details: Colours, Hardware & More Our clients chose the Westminster kitchenrange, a more traditional shaker style design, painted in Mylands’ ‘Borough Market’ a beautiful, deep green colour.

“We were both always drawn to dark blues/greens and brass naturally goes so well with that. We tried to stick to the Mylands colour chart and Borough Market was a clear winner. We initially thought about doing the island in a different colour, but then thought there might be enough going on already”

One of the great things about being bespoke is that we are able to create unique pieces for each project. For this one in Hammersmith, William designed a kitchen island / chefs table hybrid. This piece brings some warmth to the space from the exposed timber while the quartz element is an easy to clean, additional work surface and offers more storage with units all the way to the floor.

“We initially planned for the island to be an oak worktop to contrast with the marble and as a warmer surface to sit at. We asked for the marble section at the end for doing things like pastry away from the main cooking area. It’s also handy to have a heatproof area on the island for hot dishes.”

The Utility We love seeing more and more requests for bespoke utilities as we feel this area of the home needn’t be neglected! Painted here in Mylands ‘Grouse’, a soft pink hued neutral, keeps the space bright and creates a co continuous flow from the kitchen walls.

“The utility room is very ‘compact’ and is open to the kitchen, so we decided to use a lighter colour in there. That was a much harder choice - neutrals always look so different in the chart/shop/space, so we had to test out a few to get the warmth that we wanted - we’re really pleased with the Grouse.

For the hardware, we were a little torn between the industrial look of Sparkbrook and the elegance of Leebank, so we used one for the kitchen and the other for the utility.”

We love the addition of a breakfast area on the other side of the American fridge freezer! Toaster, kettle, and coffee machine reside here with some beautiful oak shelves.

“Having a small worktop on the other side of the kitchen meant that we could keep the breakfast and hot drinks away from the rest of the kitchen - it’s handy to have it all together and out of the way when you’re cooking.”

The Walk-In Pantry Another unique part of the design is the walk-in pantry with reeded glass, three oak floating shelves and a single cold floating shelf.

The Camberwell Kitchen & Banquette Nook We completed this beautiful bespoke kitchen project for our lovely clients in Camberwell. The couple chose cabinetry from our bespoke Westminster range painted in Mylands ‘Grosvenor Square’ a lovely light grey colour. The kitchen has a bespoke nook which makes the perfect space for having your morning cup of coffee and entertaining in the kitchen.

The Ramsgate Kitchen We designed this kitchen for a family of 6 in Ramsgate. This kitchen features bespoke cabinetry from our Westgate range, painted in Mylands’ ‘Borough Market’, a large kitchen island and a gorgeous run of wall units with reeded glass doors.

The Maidstone Kitchen & Utility: The Design We designed this stunning kitchen for a lovely family in Maidstone. The bespoke cabinetry is in our Rye style and the design consists of a glorious, long run of cabinetry including a stunning Belfast sink and a Bora hob.

On one end of this run is a double stacked oven unit as well as a double fridge freezer, while on the other end sits a breakfast station behind a smart bi-fold cabinet.

A large kitchen island sits across from the main cabinetry run, with enough seating space for four, plenty of drawer space and a wine fridge saving space in the main fridge and making hosting a lot easier.

“We ordered some samples from Mylands to help us choose the paint. We painted the colours around different areas of the room and made sure to check them at different times of the day. The thing we love about the colour Blackout is that it has so many different layers and can look totally different from morning to evening depending on the light. What I really love is that we have a real mix of handles, knobs and cups - each one has been thoroughly thought out based on the use of the cupboard and they all work really well.”

The Details: Colours & Hardware This project’s colour palette is an elegant, dark scheme with brass tones bringing warmth and the lightly veined, white worktops keeping the space feeling light. The cabinetry is all painted in Mylands’ “Blackout”, a blue-toned black colour, while the inside of the smaller larder unit is painted in “Ludgate Circus”, again by Mylands an almost muted green grey. For their hardware, our clients choose a combination of pull handles, knobs and cup pulls for some of their drawers, all in a beautiful satin brass finish.

The Larders This project features two larder units; a smaller one in the alcove and a larger, double larder unit with shelves and coat hooks for the family’s coats, bags and shoes. This is an excellent way to store those things which with young children, can get thrown by your front door.

“It was important for us to have a new area to house all the coats and shoes - especially as we have 2 young children which in hand brings lots of coats, shoes, bags etc. David came up with the idea of using a large larder space as a coat cupboard, it’s actually now one of my favourite spaces as there is so much room to keep everything tidy and organised...no more panicking to find a lost shoe in the mornings last minute as everything is clearly visible.”

A really unique larder unit was built in a small alcove in the room, with tongue and groove back panelling painted in a contrasting colour and reeded glass doors, making the perfect little space for cookbooks to be stored, some additional food storage drawers as well as another work surface for potential baking with the clients lovely stand mixer.

“Our pantry has a false back behind the panelling - this area houses our fuse board, electricity meter and WiFi box etc. As a result we weren’t able to have shelves on this space as we need to remove now and again to be able to access this space.”

The Utility Just off the kitchen, a small utility room was included in the design, with a single larder unit for storage and a stacked washer and dryer, saving a significant amount of space. Keeping the colour palette and hardware the same in here creates continuity and adds a touch of glamour to this space.

The Sevenoaks Kitchen These clients first approached us over 2 years ago at the beginning of their project and we have had so much fun designing this with them since then. This project has a classic and timeless look featuring bespoke cabinetry in our Westminster range, painted in Mylands’ ‘Bond Street’ and ‘Mid Wedgewood’ for the island respectively. An important part of this design is the pocket doors. This long run includes a fridge, pocket doors storage and a larder.

“I have really, really enjoyed my time with Herringbone. I think it started over two years ago when I thought we might be starting our works but it didn't actually start until about a year ago.

Never once did they treat us as a potential clients, I always felt like we were their clients. Its a subtle difference, but an important one. Their patience seems to have no bounds, small but important changes I made were also important to them. The East Dulwich Kitchen: The Design We recently completed this project for a lovely young family in East Dulwich.

This was such a fun project to work on, with bespoke cabinetry in our Rye range painted in Mylands’ famous ‘Bond Street’; a deep, navy blue.

“From the beginning of the process, we knew we needed a kitchen that was going to look beautiful and be super functional for the long term. We have both owned properties before, but have never had a kitchen that we have installed, and given how much time we spend in there and how much I love to cook, we wanted it to be perfect. I have also always wanted a larder- we had one when I was growing up, and I re-member how useful it was, so I knew that was a must!”

A show stopping feature in this kitchen has to be the tiled splashback! Covering the wall entirely from the worktop all the way up to the wall units, these lovely pink tiles arranged in a herringbone pattern certainly makes a statement and bring colour and whole lot of personality to this kitchen project.

Our clients chose a classic combination of handles including our pull and cup handles in a gorgeous, burnished brass finish.

The Walk-In Pantry Our client had the perfect space for a walk-in pantry area. A tall, double larder unit was made, with oak traditional shelving and drawers as well as a cold shelf and painted spice racks with brass rails to match the rest of the kitchen’s hardware.

Open shelving was introduced to the space to keep it from feeling top heavy.

“Oh, the walk-in pantry!! I could spend all day in there! I absolutely love it, I’m so glad we went with that instead of a pure utility area. The open shelving was to try and lighten up the small area with no natural light, but I also love how it just showcases the jars!! My favourite part of the new kitchen is the walk-in pantry and the Bora hob. I just asked Mev what his favourite part was, and he said the Insinkerator!! Which is slightly more boring but so incredibly practical!”

The window seat is the perfect sun kissed spot to sit and chat away while someone cooks or fixes a drink.

The Clapham Kitchen We completed this beautiful kitchen for a family in Clapham.

Our clients chose bespoke cabinetry from our Rye range painted in a deep green/blue. The Rye range is our take on the traditional English kitchen with a traditional shaker door and a detailed frame called a cock-bead. “The experience was great. Renovating a home is stressful but nothing about the kitchen was ever a worry. There was constant communication and they dealt with last minute changes and requests and niggly snagging items with ease.

I have heard so many horror stories with kitchen design and fitting and working with Herringbone was a dream.�

In early 2019 we opened our very own workshop in Canterbury! It’s based less than 10 minutes from the studio and surrounded by farmland. It’s open to all and somewhere we enjoy when clients visit and watch their kitchen be made. This is where your kitchen is made by the most hard working and dedicated team of carpenters and painters and each aspect of your design comes to reality.

We Can Make Anything (Out of Wood) Part of why we love being bespoke is that each unit is tailor made to you and your space. We love coming up with new and creative ideas for your projects.

Herringbone goes further than traditional kitchen cabinetry. From pocket and bi-fold doors, utilities & bootrooms, wardrobes, bench seating, wine racks, toy storage, bar cabinetry and more. If you can dream it we can make it!

Contrasting Painted Shelves Choosing a contrasting or complimenting colour to paint the inside of your cabinetry, like your larder shelves is a great way to add a pop of colour to your kitchen without the commitment of a vibrant colour.

Corbals & Cornice Decorative corbals and cornice really transforms your cabinetry and gives it that true bespoke feel.

Arabescato Kitchen

Bi-Fold & Pocket Cabinetry Doors Bi-fold doors are doors that slide open by folding up almost like a concertina. Pocket doors open just like your standard cabinetry doors, but then slide back inside the unit like magic.

Both are a great alternative to regular hinged doors, especially for units like larders as you can simply push them open and they won’t get in your way.

Bar Units & Bespoke Wine Storage In the last couple of years, we have seen a huge surge in demand for unique additions like bar units and wine storage. These are so much fun to design and make and really push us to discover new design elements. Cold shelves are great in bar units holding liquers and spirits as they are incredibly easy to clean.

Banquette Bench Seating Another add-on we have seen a lot more of recently is banquette bench seating in kitchens and utilities. These units are a great way to incorporate your dining area or utilty into the kitchen for a harmonious flow as well as acting as perfect storage solutions for items not reached for on a day to day basis.

“The banquette was suggested to us by our architect as a way to use the space along the wall, and give us flexibility with the table seating. The genius of the design is the additional storage that it gives us as well, which is incredibly helpful.�
