County Girls Prep Basketball Ranking BY ANDY VILLAMARZO HERNANDO SUN SPORTS WRITER Photography by CHERYL CLANTON
Week 3 of the regular season for prep girls basketball in the state of Florida begins this week and we here at the Hernando Sun want to give you the Hernando County reader all the insight you can get during the 20182019 campaign. We will be doing a Top 5 ranking of the five teams within Hernando County. We now take a look at the Hernando Sun Top 5 Prep Girls Basketball Poll heading into Week 3 of the regular season.
No. 1 Weeki Wachee (7-0, 3-0): No Hernando County team has looked better in the first couple of weeks than Weeki Wachee, as the Hornets are off to a 7-0 start and have picked up some impressive wins along the way. Weeki Wachee has defeated the likes of neighboring Nature Coast and Sunlake in the past week. No. 2 Hernando (4-2, 2-0): If there’s one team surprising everyone right now, it would have to be Hernando. Though before the regular season began, the Leopards expected to make a jump. At this point, though early, Hernando has to be happy with the results through six games.
Girls basketball game at Nature Coast, Weeki Wachee Sr. 14 Mykenna Corbett takes on Nature Coast #4 Faith Pirolo.

The Hernando Sun published a story about Veterans Heat Factory several weeks ago, then received an email from Gus Guadagnino. Here are some excerpts: “Donna, please share this with Julie, Rocco and Staff: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Does no justice representing my deep gratitude and appreciation – “It started out with me just being extremely thankful for getting some free media coverage since we’re working on pennies, but it turned out to be a heartfelt moment I will never forget. Volunteers haven’t rushed through our doors and our bank hasn’t grown yet, but I didn’t expect it to happen that fast. But something much more wonderful happened – Donna, because of the collaboration of the leadership of Julie and Rocco, you and I and all the members of Team Hernando Sun that worked on this piece - Rest your head on your pillow tonight knowing you saved a life! “A veteran told me this after about an hour conversation on the article and how our program works, she said with sad defeated emotions, ‘I was done (she gave details that I will not share), for the last few days I was wondering
