By Thabo Mooke Soon after President Cyril Ramaphosa had placed the country on Level 4 Alert, scientists warned that the Fourth wave was likely to emerge around November and December because the vaccine rollout is too slow. NEW coronavirus infections in South Africa appear to be dominated by the Delta variant that was first identified in India, scientists said as a third wave swept the country.

Ramaphosa announced the placement of the country under Adjusted Alert Level 4 for two weeks, because of the worrying increase in the numbers of COVID-19 infections in South Africa. Gauteng now accounts for more than 60 percent of new cases in the country and with the exceptions of the Northern Cape and Free State, infections are rising rapidly in all other provinces.

The President said the seven-day average of new daily COVID-19 infections nationally has overtaken the peak of the first wave in July last year, and will soon overtake the peak of the second wave experienced in January this year.

“We must all be worried about what we are seeing unfold before our very eyes,” he said. Under the Adjusted Alert Level 4, all gatherings – whether indoors or outdoors – are prohibited. These include

religious, political, cultural and social gatherings. Funerals and cremations are permitted, but attendance may not exceed 50 people and all social distancing and health protocols must be observed.

Night vigils, after-funeral gatherings and ‘after-tears’

gatherings are not allowed.

Public spaces, such as beaches and parks, will remain open.

However, no gatherings will be permitted. A curfew will be in place from 9pm to 4am, and all non-essential establishments will need to close by 8pm. The sale of alcohol both for on-site

and off-site consumption is prohibited.

All travel in and out of Gauteng for leisure purposes are be prohibited. This does not include work, business or commercial travel, transit through airports or for the

transport of goods.

Ramaphosa said the government would assess the impact of these interventions after 14 days to determine whether they need to be maintained or adjusted.

Professor Tulio de Oliveira from the University of KwaZuluNatal told a news conference; “A new variant seems to be not only arising, but it seems to start dominating the infections in South Africa. It completely took over,” adding that the Delta variant was more transmissible even than the Beta variant.

De Oliveira also warned that the Delta variant was highly transmissible compared to other variants. “It is highly transmissible, more than any other variant. When transmissions are rising very fast it, will overwhelm our hospitals,” he said.

Experts have pointed out that the rollout of vaccines has been slow, with just 2.7 million administered so far out of a population of 60 million.

Professor of Vaccinology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Shabir Madhi, said the fourth wave was likely to emerge around November and December because the vaccine rollout was too slow.

“The roll-out is moving far too slowly, the initial target of December ... moved to February 2022 and we will still miss it.

The government needs to change tactics and vaccinate about 15 to 17 million high-risk individuals instead,” he said.

Madhi said doses should be available to everyone over 40 who had underlying health complications

Bursaries available for youth interested in water sector

By Staff Reporter Bursary applications for students with an interest in science and engineering disciplines are currently open. The Department of Water and Sanitation has called on learners who are in Grade 12 or have been accepted at mainstream South African institutions of higher learning, within water related qualifications next year, to apply for bursaries made available by the department.

“Bursary applications for students with an interest in science and engineering disciplines are currently open. We urge Grade 12 learners particularly to apply, as we are in dire need of young and innovative minds to join the sector,” said the department’s

spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau.

He said the applications opened on 1 June 2021 and will close on 31 October 2021. The bursaries are comprehensive and cover full tuition fees, accommodation and food as per university guidance, books and stationery allowance, and a monthly stipend.

The bursaries, according to Ratau, will be allocated on the basis of a balanced consideration of outstanding academic performance, financial need and the relevant skills set for the water and sanitation sector.

“Through the bursaries offered to students, the department then provides employment contracts, during which the bursars get the relevant workplace exposure and additional training until they are ready to register as professionals with their relevant professional bodies,” he added.

s. Judy Mashala said during an official handover of a ICT laboratory to the Elizabeth Matsemela Secondary school by the IT company Diebolt Nixdorf in Block BB, Soshanguve that they are the blesser that they have been longing for.

“For years now the Elizabeth Matemela Secondary School was yearning for an ICT Laboratory but could not afford to have it. The Diebolt Nixdorf IT Company became handy in blessing them with the strong room of an ITC Laboratory. May all the heavenly praises go to them,” said Mashala.

“I have to thank Lemmy Reddy, the head of Cooperate and Social Investment of this company for choosing and identifying with the Elizabeth Matsemela Secondary School.

This school will stand as a milestone to the history of the school,” she added.

“Five years ago Elizabeth Maatsemela Secondary School learner enrolment was 266.

This number was influenced by lack of resources especially in technology. This left the school with poor results.

These results were a worrying factor, not only to the SGB, the regional circuit but to the community at large, “Today I am proud to announce to you that our learner performance has been improving of late. In 2019 our school reached a pass mark of 93.3 percent.

“As you all know that we have been all affected by the Covid 19, in 2020 we dropped to 76 percent, which is still commendable. We however produced Bachelor passes of

From 30 June, schools and institutions of higher education will be closed for contact classes, state the regulations.

“The Cabinet member responsible for basic education may by direction contemplated in regulation 4(3), determine the dates on which schools, as defined in the South African Schools Ac, 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996), will be reopened and any matter related to the management of schools in the basic education sector, to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 in all schools.”

“Allow me to indicate that it has been my dream to give excellent services to the community, so that we can gain interest to claim back what is ours. You may wonder what I mean by that. I mean bringing back our learners who have gone to schools in the city because township schools lack resources.

“Our learners have been stolen by the schools in the city because they are not equipped with tools in information technology. Aside the lack of those tools on information technology, we still come out better. We only needed those gadgets to be on top of our game.

“Learners from Soshanguve are no longer going to be wasting about R80 per day travelling to city schools, in chase of apparatus in information technology. That

money can be put to other uses. Elizabeth Matsemela Secondary School is there for them.

“These gadgets will not turn into a white elephant.

Our learners are using them, especially our grades 8 and 9.

They are 317 in number which amounts to 36.3 of our learner population. This number shows that there is a serious need for gadgets and connectivity at our school to close the gap that is already there.

“With the remaining 63.6 percent of which 14.8 percent is covered by GDE with tablets for 129 grade 12 learners, the remaining 21.9 percent (425 learners) who are in grade 10 and 11 still need the gadgets.

“In as far as the school security is concerned, we have done our best to make sure that everything is secured to keep this investment safe. We do not call it a donation because

we are going to preserve it. We have reinforced entrances that might be used by thieves.

“A layer of roof sheeting between the roof and the ceiling is in place, with an irritating pink material which no thief can tolerate has been inserted. All windows have strong burglar doors. We are also utilising maximum armed response. We have installed security cameras. The school neighbours or nearby security members are keeping watch as to what is happening around the school.

The Chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) Lazarus Mavundla was grateful about the gift from the donors and further said; “The security around the school has been strengthened. Thieves cannot easily break into the property. That means all what we have been given is in good hands.”

City honours firefighters ,unveil a new fleet of Emergency Services vehicles

By Ofentse Mathibe The City of Tshwane has honoured 17 of its firefighters with bravery medals as well as unveiling a new fleet of Emergency Services vehicles and ambulances to boost the city’s fleet.

The Executive Mayor of Tshwane Randall Williams officially accepted the new vehicles during a ceremony at the Rietondale Sports Field in Pretoria North on 3 June 2021.

The special event was held to commend the noble deeds by Tshwane’s firefighters who helped to extinguish the Bank of Lisbon building fire when they answered a call to assist their colleagues in Johannesburg in 2018.

“Together with the MMC for Community Safety Karen

Meyer, we had the honour of bestowing the bravery medals to the 17 firefighters who were part of the Bank of Lisbon building operation. And, the 18th medal was also awarded in absentia,” said Williams.

The Mayor also thanked the firefighters for being true professionals and for flying the Tshwane flag high. He said: “They have earned these bravery medals. It is important that we show our appreciation to the men and women in uniform from various disciplines. They play a critical role in keeping our communities safe, be it through crime fighting, responding to emergencies, assisting the ill or putting out fires.

Firefighters are some of the most courageous people in the world as they put their lives on the line to protect our residents and respond to

are a large numbers of patients on the scene, there is also a Special Infection Ambulance, and an Armoured Fire Engen among many others. The vehicles will assist improve response time to emergencies in the city,” said Williams.

“We must all be worried about what we are seeing unfold before our very eyes,” President Ramaphosa said in a live broadcast to the nation.

Under Adjusted Alert Level 4, the following measures are to be in place across the country with effect from tomorrow: - All gatherings – whether indoors or outdoors – are prohibited. These include religious, political, cultural and social gatherings.

- Funerals and cremations are permitted, but attendance may not exceed 50 people and all social distancing and health protocols must be observed.

- Night vigils, after-funeral gatherings and ‘after-tears’ gatherings are not allowed - Public spaces, such as beaches and parks, will remain open. However, no gatherings will be permitted.

Delta variant President Ramaphosa said the evidence is that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is

rapidly displacing the Beta variant, which has been dominant in the country until now.

“We are concerned about the rapid spread of this variant. Firstly, because it is more transmissible than previously circulating viruses, meaning it is easier to catch through person-to-person contact. It is thought to be twice as contagious as the Beta variant.

“Secondly, because it is more contagious, it can infect far more people. As with the previous variants, you can pass it on without even knowing you have it.

“Thirdly, there is now emerging scientific evidence that people previously infected with the Beta variant do not have full protection against the Delta variant, and may get re-infected.

“Fourthly, because it is much more contagious, the measures we have so far adopted to contain the spread of the virus may no longer be sufficient to reduce transmission.”

Kgadime Matsepe successful Career Guidance Expo

By Thapelo Masilela he Kasi Arts Production (KAP), a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) stretched their feathers further in ploughing back to the community of Soshanguve by giving the Grade 12 learners of Kgadime Secondary School a lesson in career guidance during Youth Month.

Khothatso Seroke, Founder and Manager of KAP said; “our aim was to hand out information or set out different options which learners can utilise in choosing a career. Choosing a career is a matter of life and death. It can be very tricky. It can either make you or destroy you.”

Seroke added that; “A career guidance expo is equal opportunity event for job seekers and employers alike. It is bad enough to go into a career training which you find out later, it is not what you wanted to do. Employers would also like to recruit suitable people. It makes their job easier. During the expo employers or universities meet, inform and interview hundreds of potential applicants, while job seekers get a chance to ask questions, talk up their skills and make important connections.”

Ms. Lebogang Phetla, Procurement official at the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) bemoaned the fact that today’s youth want to get everything on the silver platter. She urged them to up their game and easy come easy go. She said there are many opportunities in the SANDF. “In the SANDF we only need your basic qualification, your body weight and the status of your health. You will need to do an internal test which will determine whether you are accepted or rejected.

Your choice of friends, thoughts, how you use your time is very important. I am here at the career guidance expo to plant a fruitful seed that is going to shape your future life. Take care.”

Matsau Ralebakeng and Nelson Letswalo from the SAPS division of Detective and Forensic Services outlined very interesting streamlines in career paths. These involved highlights that SAPS needed people who are qualified in Biology, Chemistry, Ballistics,

Microbiology, and Digital Media. They dished out some pamphlets and invited interested candidates to do inquiries.

Xolani Mathibela, the Alumni Communication Coordinator talked about the challenges one meets in a media career and what prerequisites one needs to have in following that type of career. Mathibela writes, edits and proof reads articles.

Constable Kgomotso Mashaba and Constable Masego Maleka from the Social Crime Unit, Tshwane Metro Police Department bemoaned that most black youth, who come from disadvantaged communities lack discipline and are not focused to a bright future. Mashaba warned the girls wearing short skirts that they are inviting trouble to themselves by exposing their thighs so openly. She invited job seekers to visit their offices to apply.

The Minister said provinces, the national Department of Health and Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) teams are conducting robust registration drives, and have since seen the numbers going up because of these initiatives.

To date, over 1.227 million senior citizens and over 914 000 healthcare workers have signed up on EVDS, which brings the number to over 2.1 million citizens.

“We recommend that as many people as possible register beforehand,” The Minister said, noting that vaccination centres are currently not allowing walk-ins.

Foundation donates shoes, sanitary towels

By Ofentse Mathibe Dalindyebo Foundation is helping to improve the lives of disadvantaged children through a simple act of donating school shoes as well as sanitary towels in black communities.

The philanthropic campaign was spearheaded by the foundation founder, Itumeleng Sonti, as they visited Tsibogo Secondary School in Mabopane Block U recently. The Dalindyebo Foundation, a brainchild of Ga-Rankuwa-born Sonti, and it tackles poverty and inequality through educative programs, and thus supports educational projects in the townships.

Sonti told Sosh Times that the foundation was established as a tribute to his father, Dalindyebo (wealth builder). “The overall plan is to build wealth of hope, love amongst people. We intend to channel our energy and focus towards a common

purpose of alleviating poverty in our society as well as developing economic models that are going to assist in creating employment. We want to see more black people participate in the economy,” added Sonti.

He said: “We are a foundation that intends to gather funding and ultimately to find ways in which we are going restore the dignity of the black majority.

We intend to build houses for our people, touch their lives in a positive way, and also take over the township economy to assist our people open businesses”.

He further added; “If we are able to alleviate poverty though educative programs where we advocate for the channelling of opportunities to the black majority and to the youth in particular then we will be able to gather momentum and get more youth out of their homes and out of unemployment and take over the economy,” said the North West University final-year law student.

The three postponed matches are those involving reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies vs The University of Johannesburg, Ma-Indies FC vs The University of the Western

Cape and JVW FC vs Coal City Wizards.

The aforementioned matches have been postponed because some players from the respective clubs form part of Banyana Banyana squad travelling to Netherlands.

Only four matches will be played this weekend, with the Sunday match involving Bloemfontein Celtic v First

touch Academy being live on SABC Sport and Channel 124 on open view.

Centre assists the residents of Mmakau

By Ofentse Mathibe Rutanang Aids Project is a centre of hope for the residents of Mmakau in the North West, outside Ga-Rankuwa, with its objective to provide a caring environment for the needy and vulnerable.

The project was initiated back as 2001, and their services and programmes are focussed into two main areas of priority; Healthcare and Income Development Projects.

Health services are aimed at providing awareness, treatment and care to over 1100 beneficiaries they currently have.

“We check the state of health of our beneficiaries – which include conducting TB screenings. But our aim is to encourage people to know their status,” said the centre’s Administrator, Deter Mashimbye.

According to research; “TB alone kills more people annually than HIV/ AIDS, and in combination, both are even deadlier – and TB continues to be the leading cause of death among HIV/AIDS patients.”

The centre aims to reduce HIV vulnerability through peer education, raising of awareness, prevention and treatment. “We support and empower all people with or affected by HIV, reduce the stigma, and provide them with compassionate healthcare,” said Mashimbye.

Rutanang’s programmes address the needs of people living with HIV/ AIDS, TB, poverty and/or who may need assistance in being employed.

They have a programme called ‘Appearance Club’ where people infected with HIV come and discuss about issues they face. They discuss general issues and share ideas in the process. Mashimbye told Sosh Times that they are in partnership with the clinic where they assist their beneficiaries with medication so they avoid long queues at the clinic.

There’s also a full-spectrum of

services for the less fortunate where school children are given uniforms and food at the centre’s after-school programme. In the past year, they have donated over 100 shoes to schools in the area including uniform.

Although Rutanang is largely dependent on donor funding, the organisation is constantly striving towards self-sustainability by means of its income generation project which include the ‘Herb’ Garden – where they grow the Muringa trees [which they process and package themselves] and then sell – and is complemented by the community garden

which grows vegetables.

There are about 200 Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers who work on the site daily to ensure the place is well-looked after. The project has been running successfully for the past 20 years, uplifting the community and boosting their moral.

Mashimbye said he would like to see Rutanang become a big institution that specialises in skills development, and create jobs. “There’s a high number of unemployed youth because they lack skills. We would like to have a workshop that would offer hand skills such as;

(welding, bricklaying and plumbing), and have a computer lab centre,” said Mashimbye.

He advised youth to always go after their ideas. “No idea is small. With that idea you have, you can make a difference as long as you put in the hard work,” he said. Mosa Sekane has been with the centre for seven-years now. He wishes to see the establishment grow and reach new heights. “They found me when I used to clean at the cemetery,” said Sekane.

He was elected team leader and now supervises all the work done at the garden.

Free hairstyles and haircuts for the underprivileged children

By Thapelo Masilela Victoria Masikidi “Mrs Universe Africa 2021 – semi-finalist” beauty pageant , after winning the title offered to give underprivileged children free hairstyles and haircuts as a way to ploughing back to the society that has raised and supported her.

Mosikidi said the “Take the black to the Saloon” project or drive was initiated out of the fact that there are parents who cannot afford to maintain their children’s hairstyles or haircuts.

“I am also doing the drive on sanitary towels because you find that children from poor families cannot afford that luxury. It is better to cover them up and boost their ego,” said Mosikidi.

When asked as to what is the fun of being involved in beauty pageants at her age, she answered that the Mrs Universe Africa 2021 accommodate those who are married, widowed, divorced and those who have children.

“It is never too late to achieve your dreams as a woman. Being married does not mean that you should stop to do what you wanted to do. You should not lose yourself in the process of loving someone.

“You can be married partners but your individuality does not vanish naturally into nothingness because you are engaged with someone. You still have to maintain your individuality. In this world men put themselves first. It is about time that they teach themselves to like how women usually do.

“If men do not adjust, it will certainly lead into divorce. That is why it is often advised that one should marry his or her best friend. You need to spend more time with your prospective partner in order to know him or her better. Marriage does not mean that a person should be in prison, but should be able to have some form of freedom but with some responsibility.

Asked on her views about the Gender Based Violence (GVB), she said; “It is very important to read and analyse the character of someone you are going to spend the rest of your life with. Pay attention to the arguments. If he says to you that he is going to kill you. Take notice and be very careful.

“Find previous history of your partner from people around him.

Abusers never change. They will slap you and apologise.

Abusing can also be emotional.

You can confide to an abuser in confidence. But they can use that against you in the future, knowing that it is your weak point.

Mosikidi concluded by saying that; “Beauty pageants build confidence in women and it uplifts up their self-esteem. It leads one to voice out. Your tongue as a woman becomes your strongest weapon. With that you can empower other women.”

A virus that is determined to change and continue to change the world’s thinking and behaviour. A virus that keeps bringing fear, uncertainty, and global confusion. A question everybody keeps asking himself/ herself is that when are we going to see the end to this situation? What we cannot ignore is the fact that this virus and all its subsidiaries have a reason for existence.

Many businesses are closing down and many are to follow. As businesses close down unemployment is gradually escalating. Unemployment becomes the breeder of helplessness which leads to various adverse conditions.

The one who finds the cure to the virus is geared to make more money than he ever thought he/she would. It is in times like this when we see the emerging of entrepreneurs. When the life ship is in the process of sinking into the deep end, men and women of courage rise up and risk themselves in the deep end to save lives and livelihood.

This is the time when humanity cannot depend on another for survival.

In times like this dependency becomes more destructive. When the one you depend on goes down the drain, who else is there to depend on? When you realise that your future is becoming bleak and dark you find yourself left with one option, to stand up on your own and begin to matter. This unpalatable situation creates alternatives in many minds. We were born with alternatives which in the process we forgot we have. We became complacent because we thought the status quo will remain

as such forever.

To those who are still able to ship in this volatile sea controlled by the virus, entrepreneurship must be revamped and reinforced to can stand the test of time. This is the time employees much change their mindset to become intrapreneurs to ensure that the ship is capable to sail on the volatile sea. The two dynamics are crucial today as before for we are faced with a scourge we need to overcome.

Our business mentality must be transformed beyond entrepreneurship understanding. Transformation of the eight business functions within the business environment needs to revamp. Business principles need to become the pillar we can cling to keep moving on to where we all want to be.

Nobody loves change. Change brings with it new unexplored dynamics many are uncomfortable with. The effects of change are more felt by those who are directly related to the changing change. Many a time we find ourselves not willing to change because change comes at a time we least expect it. For change to become the change we need to be willing to change for the better at all times.

What we fail to acknowledge is that change bread progress and growth.

If we plan for growth and progress against this virus, many things we were comfortable with must change.

Change is not changing until we are willing to change how we do, how we think, how we see the future, and what we want to achieve in the short term.

This virus has in many ways demonstrated that without building capacity, capability, competency, and brilliance within our environments it will supersede our existence.

Knowledge in business plays a pivotal part more than available money. The danger of having money without knowledge promotes bankruptcy.

Business money is not everything but part of everything in the business. This

is the main concept to be changed in volatile times we find ourselves in.

What we seriously have to look at is the type of business we are running as entrepreneurs. Tendering is not a business one can bank on. Tendering is a supplementary business, not a core business. This is what must change. Tendering is not a business because it has a life span. Business by its nature has no life span unless the owner determines a life span activities for it. Business is run on the principles of short term, mediumterm, and long term basis. Based on the model business you are running at the moment, consider it in the light of what you went through during the virus period. If this virus was to return or hold on for a longer period than current, what options do you have?

Will you still hold on to that business model or change it?

Never use the power you have to change situations other people like and love. Never think you are better than other people. Trust your knowledge more than you trust and rely on your education. Education will let you down but knowledge will forever lift you. Knowledge is power and power is responsibility in your knowledge.

Bringing traditional dance to urbanites

f you still think that traditional music is only for the countryside and the rural areas, then think again. Thabang Letona, is a traditional Setswana Dance Music Group based in Soshanguve Block PP2. The group, which is made up of Amogelang Mathiya (15), Lesedi Makushe (15), Tshepo Vula (16), Tshepo Dladla (27), Kholofelo Mogale (18), Mosimanegape Ramela (21) and Thabang Motjetsi (20), was started in 2018 by Nkele Molapo. She said she started the group when her daughter, who was part of another dance group, encouraged her to start a dance group and train them as

things were not going well in the initial group.

Molapo said she has been involved in arts and cultures for some time but her focus was mainly on drama and music. She said she gave the group her all when they started, so it was ultimately a success. She said some of the group members are from Kromkuil, two are from Maubane and two are from Krugersdorp. She said Motjetsi is the one who teaches the dancers the techniques.

Molapo urged people to remain strong because there are challenges when it comes to traditional dance.

“People always have something negative to say, the key is to not take them seriously. I am going somewhere because I don’t take any negative comments seriously. I started this in order to keep kids, especially teenagers off the streets and away from negative things like drugs and teenage pregnancy,” said

Molapo.

She also called upon other teenagers who are interested to come join the group and do something with their lives.

Thabang Motjetsi told Sosh Times that he likes traditional music and has been into it since before he started school.

She added that he wishes for the team to become successful, not just the group but also the kids because no one knows what

the future has for them.

He said he has been involved with various traditional groups hence his love for traditional Setswana dance music grew. He encouraged young people to use the talents they have positively as this might lead to success.

Motjetsi also said that he would like to become a successful dancer who will, one day, collect a SATMA award.

He said the same goes for the group, he would like to see it having its own club house, where they meet, perform and plan their performances.

He added that he was happy with the attention traditional music was getting.

He said it has been a while since people saw and heard traditional music, so they are happy with the music.

Rietgat SAPS celebrates Youth Day

By Staff Reporter In their blue uniform, and not in pursuit of criminals, members of the Reitgat SAPS, together with nine local stakeholders, commemorated Youth Day at the Block JJ Clinic in Soshanguve.

The day was celebrated under the theme “The year of Charlotte

Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society”.

Various stakeholders, members of the SAPS and the Community Policing Forum distributed more than 2000 pamphlets. Different speakers said they acknowledged the many challenges faced by

young people.

The SAPS further urged young people to avoid criminal activities including doing drugs. Speaking on behalf of the station, Sergeant Shabangu encouraged the youth to stay in school and urged them to look up to the youth of 1976 in their stance when they revolted against the apartheid system.

Resident, Katlego Selokela (28), expressed gratitude for being more enlightened, especially on aspects such as gender-based violence, domestic violence, substance abuse and practicing safer sex. “I wish such events could happen monthly because we need them in our communities”, he added.

27-year old woman arrested after killing her mother

By Tlaki Baloyi A 27-year old woman was recently arrested in Soshanguve Block V after killing her 55-year old mother. According to Rietgat Police Station spokesperson, Captain Stephen Maluleka, the accused was found naked, with a knife in her hands, but there were paint cans next to them, so it is unclear whether the victim was stabbed or if she was hit with a paint can. Maluleka added that the forensics are still trying to establish the cause of the victim’s death, he also said that it is not clear whether the accused is sane or not.

According to unconfirmed rumours, the young woman told those who were at the scene that a bad spirit overcame her and caused her to commit murder.

She also told them that she met with one of her neighbours in the early hours of the morning, wearing only the yellow ZCC shirt and a green (sephika) and nothing else. It is said that afterwards she ran around in the yard, still naked and holding a bible.

It is suspected that the young woman might be a devil worshipper because rumours are that she also drank her mother’s blood.

President Kenneth Kaunda, as President, welcomed the liberation movements in Zambia. He provided a base for the Exiled Liberation Movements, the ANC and Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK), SWAPO and People Liberation Army (PLAN), ZIPRA and ZANLA, FRELIMO and others.

Banyana Banyana were scheduled to travel to Netherlands on Monday, 28 June 2021 and play the hosts on 3 July in Zwolle as part of their preparations for the CAF AWCON qualifiers scheduled for later this year.

Coach Desiree Ellis said while the cancellation of the trip was with heavy heart, people’s health and lives come first. ‘’This is a difficult time where we are in the middle of the third wave in our country, and unfortunately Banyana Banyana has not been spared from this pandemic. Due to positive cases in our camp, the full delegation has been put into isolation, and we will therefore not be able to honour the friendly fixture against the Netherlands,’’ said Ellis.

“At this moment, of utmost importance is the health of everyone – both us and our opponents – and football takes second place.’’
