CIT program

CIT-2s

Many of our JJCs had been trained and certified before Camp as lifeguards. Some assist ed with canteen responsibilities. While there was mixed success with the implementation of the program, I’m excited to develop this program a little more in 2023. This upcoming summer, we’ll add a few more guardrails and a little more structure to how we implement the pro gram.

Monday – Communication (Focus and Listening); Decision Making and Self Esteem; Risk Management (observation); So cial Media and Social between Riverside and Hilltop CITs

Group Rentals

FRIDAY FUNDAY - Blue and Gold Games; Water Balloon Fight; Evaluations; CIT Nightly ActivitySummer 2022 really showed me how valuable the CIT Pro gram is to the development of not only our staff but the im provement of the programming we will be able to offer our ju nior members.

Please note: On Dec. 15, 2022, all successful candidates who have completed their ap plication, interview and refer ences will be able to “reserve their spot” in the session of their choice two months prior to the open enrollment. More details will be given at a later date.

• Week #4: July 9 – July 15

The Hilltop dining hall is pictured decorated for a wedding reception.

We will also be showing you what it means to be a staff mem ber. As a CIT camper, and as a potential staff member, you will be peeking behind the scenes of what makes the Camp tick. You will be helping in the dining hall, you will help set up, break down and run evening activities, you will be observing and participat ing in daily activities and you may be helping in the kitchen.

Sunday - Your Value as a CIT-1; Arrival Day - Greeting the Camp ers; Expectations for the week

• Week #5: July 16 – July 22

There’s so much happening at Hermann Sons Life Camp – even in the fall – and I love it!

Tuesday - Identifying Camper Behavior (Homesickness); Age characteristics at Camp; Line Dancing and Camp Songs with Riverside and Hilltop CITs; GAME NIGHT

CIT-1 Camp Week “Leadership”

The CIT-2 program is available for invited junior members who completed their CIT-1 program in 2022 and received positive evaluations at the end of the week. Last summer we imple mented a more structured ver sion of our Junior Junior Staff Program. This is where CIT-2s can join us for additional PAID weeks at Camp.

How to become a CIT-1

October 2022 – Hermann Sons Life – Page 11

We rent the Camp facility to a number of groups throughout the year. In November, we will be hosting 200 Girl Scouts for a weekend. In addition, our Hill top Camp is hosting the Com fort School of Dance class every week. We’d love to see the facil ity used more. Does your school district do outdoor education classes? Does your church run any retreats? If there is any in terest, please reach out – ianb@ hermannsonslife.org. I’d love to help you plan an event.

If you are interested in joining the team at Hermann Sons life Camp, the directions are listed below.

On Sept. 3, 2023, our Hilltop facility hosted the wonderful wedding reception of former Riverside counselor Lindee Fiedler (Pi). The dining hall looked amazing, and we loved being part of this wonderful oc casion.During the same weekend, six of our summer staff members, Coconut, Toucan, Smudge, Cy borg, Ding and Sonar earned their Lifeguard Instructor Cer tificate. They will now be able to train and certify CIT-2s, junior staff and full counselor staff to get their lifeguard certification. We believe it is an awesome re turn on investment and has a positive effect on our summer Camp staff.

• The FIRST STEP on the road to becoming a CIT-1 is to complete the application. The application is for past Hermann Sons Life campers ages 15 (as of Sept. 1, 2023) who wish to be consid ered for the first level of the CIT Program.TheCIT application is available on the Hermann Sons Life web

This program emphasizes leadership and gives Hermann Sons Life junior members the opportunity to demonstrate those skills. We teach you about camper behaviors and group management skills. We will dis cuss the importance of “being there” for a homesick camper and giving you some tips and tricks to help a camper get the most out of their stay.

• Week #6: July 23– July 29 Program outline:

The following week, we hosted Hermann Sons Life agents for a Continuing Education weekend. A massive thank you goes out to Vice President of Sales Teresa Saathoff for all of her help, and that of her staff to put together a wonderful three-day training. The agents, along with the edu cators, were able to experience many of our campers’ favorite meals. Thank you also goes out to Camp staff Clay, Heath, Melis sa and Sue for making the event a success.
