„PARA-ATHLETEN SIND MEINE HELDEN“

INTERVIEW MIT DEM WT PARA TAEKWONDO CHAIRMAN CHAKIR CHELBAT

Im April 2017 wurde Chakir Chelbat zum Technischen Delegierten für Taekwondo für die Paralympischen Spiele 2020 in Tokio sowie zum Vorsitzenden des World Para Taekwondo Technical and Referee Committees ernannt. Wir haben mit Chakir Chelbat über die historischen Paralympischen Spiele in Tokio gesprochen.

DTU 20: Die Paralympischen Spiele 2020 beginnen am 24. August 2021 in Tokio. Neben Badminton feiert Taekwondo als zweite Sportart eine paralympische Premiere in Tokio. Welche Bedingungen und Regeln kommen für Taekwondoathleten zur Anwendung?

Chakir Chelbat: Wir haben dieselben Regeln und Vorschriften wie bei den Olympischen Spielen. Aber die Wettkampfregeln sind etwas unterschiedlich, da wir es hier mit Para-Athleten zu tun haben. Nur die Kategorie K43, zusammengelegt mit K44, kommt zur Austragung. Das war für das erste Mal die einzige und beste Option bei den Paralympischen Spielen. Für Paris 2024 werden wir dies verbessern und die Paralympischen Spiele von Tokio analysieren und den Report der Führungsebene vorlegen. Jeder muss dieselben Bedingungen unter der Anführung unseres Präsidenten Dr. Choue erhalten. Ich bin mehrere Male nach Tokio gereist, selbst zu Beginn der Pandemie. Als diese Herausforderung die Welt erfasst hat, haben wir unseren Fokus und unsere Vorbereitungen für Tokio in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Tokioter Organisationskomitee für die Paralympischen Spiele und natürlich in enger Abstimmung mit dem Internationalen Paralympischen Komitee fortgesetzt. Wir haben unsere Arbeit auf täglicher und wöchentlicher Basis fortgesetzt, wir sind gut vorbereitet und ich bin sehr zuversichtlich, dass es ein erfolgreiches und historisches Ereignis wird.

DTU 20: Wie entwickeln Sie Para-Taekwondo weiter?

Chakir Chelbat: Para-Taekwondo ist ein fantastischer Sport. Und ich bin sehr gesegnet, dass ich die Möglichkeit habe, der technische Vorsitzende des Paralympischen Komitees zu sein. In der WT gibt es normalerweise keine Vereine, die nur paralympisches Taekwondo anbieten. Alle Vereine auf der Welt sind für nicht-beeinträchtigte Sportler und in diesen Vereinen findet man einige Para-Sportler.

DTU 20: The Paralympics 2021 will begin in Tokyo on August 24th. Besides badminton, Taekwondo is the second sport that celebrates its Paralympic premiere in Tokyo. Which conditions and rules apply here for Taekwondo athletes?

Chakir Chelbat: We have the same rules and regulations as in the Olympic Side able body . But the rules in competition are little different because we are dealing with Para athletes.

WE ARE USING ONLY SPORT CLASS K43 CONSOLIDATED WITH K 44 .

This was the only best option to do it for the first time in Paralympic games. For Paris 2024 we will do it better and we will now review the Tokyo Paralympic Games analyze and deliver our report to the leadership. Everybody has to get the same conditions under the leadership of our president DR Choue. I visited Tokyo several times even in the beginning of this pandemic. When the challenge hit the world, we continue our focus and our preparations for Tokyo in close cooperation with Tokyo Organization of the Paralympic Games and of course with Very close contact with the International Paralympic Committee . We have continued to work together in daily and weekly base and we are well prepared and i am very confident together with our amazing team it will be a very historical and successful event.

DTU 20: How do you further develop the advancement of Para Taekwondo?

Chakir Chelbat: Para taekwondo is an amazing sport. And I am very blessed to have an opportunity to be a technical chairman of the Paralympic committee. In the WT, usually there are no clubs specific for only Paralympic taekwondo. All the clubs around the world are able body clubs, and among these clubs we can find certain Para

Unter der Leitung unserer Führungsebene arbeiten wir sehr effizient mit Para-Schulungsprogrammen; Schulungen für Para-Coaches auf den Leveln 1, 2 und 3; MNA-Workshops, um unsere Interessensvertreter mit Schulungen zu unterstützen; Informationen; Verwaltung, wie man ParaTaekwondo in den MNAs aufbaut und eine Anleitung, um Para-Taekwondo in den MNAs zu etablieren. Wir bieten ihnen fantastische Werkzeuge für die Klassifizierung von Para-Sportlern, biologische und psychologische Aspekte bei Para-Sportlern, viele weitere Programme, um das Bewusstsein für Para-Taekwondo sowohl im Vollkontakt als auch im Poomsaebereich zu schärfen, auch für die Parasportler, die nicht an Wettkämpfen teilnehmen können – wir können diese dennoch trainieren und ihnen helfen. Es gibt derzeit 84 Länder innerhalb unserer MNAs, die Para-Taekwondo anbieten, und es werden mehr. Das ist nur der Anfang. Es ist viel erreicht worden. Wir arbeiten ohne Pause. Wir haben starke Programme entworfen und die Ausbildung im Para-Bereich mit der Unterstützung des WT Education Departments unter der Leitung des Senior Director Dr. Yoo Jeong Seok begonnen, und natürlich der größten Unterstützung durch unseren Präsidenten Dr. Choue. Wir haben auch einige Para-Coach-Kurse angeboten. Ebenso einige Kurse zur Klassifikation, sowohl technisch als auch medizinisch. athletes. So under the guidance of our leadership, we are working very efficiently through Para education programs, education for para coach certification level one, level 2 and level 3, MNAs workshop to assist our stakeholders with educations, informations, administration , how to build the para taekwondo in each MNA , the road map to follow in order to establish a strong Para taekwondo in each MNA. We give them amazing tolls about classification rules for para athletes, Biological aspect and Psychological aspect for Para athletes, Many other programs to increase the awareness about Para Taekwondo both in kyorugi, Poomsae and even our amazing para athletes who can not compete but we still can train them and help them. We have actually at least 84 countries among our MNAs practicing para Taekwondo and more are coming. This is just the beginning. A lot of work has been done. We work non-stop. So we made strong programs and have started our Para education together with help and support of the WT education department under the lead of our Senior Director Dr YOO Jeong Seok and of course the greatest support of our President Dr Choue. We did also conducted several Para coach courses.We did also ceverall courses in classification, Both technical and medical .

DTU 20: What are the most important qualities a good Taekwondo referee must have?

Chakir Chelbat: It is different to educate the international referees. It is necessary that they have knowledge about the necessary aspects of our para-athletes. The athletes with different sport classes and with different disability have different way to compete. And referees need to understand that which sport class they are dealing with, It is about the safety of our Para athletes. for example, k41 lower sport class with maximum disability is different than K42, K43 and k44, I believe an international referee course for only para taekwondo will be needed in the future because under the guidance of our leadership we are covering all the 10 SPORT KLASS categories under the IPC, like sport class P10, P20. P30. P40, k40, P50 P60, P70 Sport class for the deaf athletes, wheel chair sport class So many programs in Paralympic taekwondo are needed, because we have different sport classes. And the referees and coaches,

DTU 20: Was sind die wichtigsten Eigenschaften, die eine guter Taekwondo-Kampfrichter haben muss?

Chakir Chelbat: Es ist unterschiedlich, internationale Kampfrichter auszubilden. Es ist notwendig, dass sie das Wissen der notwendigen Aspekte über unsere ParaSportler haben. Die Sportler der unterschiedlichen Klassen und mit unterschiedlichen Einschränkungen kämpfen auch unterschiedlich. Und die Kampfrichter müssen verstehen, womit sie es zu tun haben. Wir müssen unsere Schiedsrichter so ausbilden, dass sie alle Arten von Wettbewerben leiten können. they need to learn this. Therefore it is necessary in order to have better results, we need specific experts for each area. We need to educate our referees to officiate in all kind of competition.

DTU 20: Sie haben versucht, Para- und nicht-Para-Veranstaltungen zu verbinden, zum Beispiel mit dem World Taekwondo Grand Prix in London. Was bedeutet Inklusion für Sie?

Chakir Chelbat: Das bietet eine großartige Chance, zusammen mit dem Marketing, der Werbung, Social Media. Im nächsten Jahr werden die Para-Sportler in der Grand Prix-Serie und dem Grand Prix-Finale antreten. Es ist auch geplant, dass Para-Taekwondo Teil des Grand Slam wird. DTU 20: Was sollten die nationalen Verbände tun, damit Para-Taekwondo noch populärer wird?

Chakir Chelbat: Zunächst einmal bin ich sicher, dass Para-Taekwondo nach sehr erfolgreichen Paralympischen Spielen sehr an Bedeutung gewinnen wird. Das wird allen MNAs einen kraftvollen Schub geben. Es wird helfen, unseren Sport voranzubringen. In unseren Workshops geben wir den MNAs sehr eindeutige Hilfestellung dazu, wie man vorgeht. Wir müssen mit all unseren Nationalen Para-Komitees (NPC) zusammenarbeiten. Jeder MNA muss sehr eng mit seinem NPC kollaborieren. Die NPCs müssen prüfen, welche Sportarten im Paralympischen Programm vorhanden sind. Und diese können dem Taekwondo helfen und es unterstützen. Und sie können verschiedene Sportarten ausarbeiten, indem sie ein gutes

DTU 20: You tried to connect Para- and non-Para events, for example the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in London. What does Inclusion mean for you?

Chakir Chelbat: This is a great opportunity, together with the marketing, the promotion, the social media. The para athlete from next year will be competing in Grand Prix series and Grand Prix final Para Taekwondo is planed to be also in Grand slam. Thank you to the leadership for giving giving equal opportunities for Para athletes.

DTU 20: What should National Federations do so that Para-Taekwondo is getting more popular?

Chakir Chelbat: First of all,I am sure after a very great success of the Paralympic games , The para Taekwondo will grow highly.This will give a very strong kick and push to all MNAs. This will help to promote our sport. In our workshops, we give a very clear guidance to help MNAs on how to proceed. We have to work together with all our NPCs around the world. Each MNA must work very near and in close relation with their NPC.The national Paralympic committees have to see which kind of sports we have in the Paralympic program. And then they can help and support taekwondo. And they can elaborate different sports by creating a good network with the Paralympic national committee and also with

Netzwerk mit dem NPC und auch den unterschiedlichen Verbänden aufbauen, wie man mit Para-Sportlern umgeht. Und die Schulen – mit diesen muss man zusammenarbeiten.

DTU20: Ein Blick nach vorne – welche Änderungen wird es für die paralympischen Taekwondobewerbe in Paris 2024 geben?

Chakir Chelbat: Wir haben uns beim IPC sogar darum beworben, die Gewichtsklassen von drei auf fünf zu erhöhen, für Männer und Frauen, um zehn Gewichtsklassen zu haben. Wir warten noch auf die Entscheidung des IPC. Wir sind sehr zuversichtlich, dass wir Teil der Paralympischen Spiele bleiben werden. Und wir hoffen, dass das IPC unserem Antrag zustimmt. Nach den erfolgreichen Spielen von Tokio 2020 werden wir alles genau analysieren und prüfen und werden mit vielen Experten aus dem Taekwondo brainstormen. Auch der Beitrag der Medien ist sehr wichtig. Wir werden auch den Beitrag der MNAs benötigen. Und mit diesen Beiträgen werden wir einen Bericht für die Führungsebene erstellen.

Die Vorbereitung für Paris beginnt jetzt. Und wir konzentrieren uns auf unsere Ziele, um die Paralympischen Spiele größer und erfolgreich zu machen. Para-Veranstaltungen mit nicht-Para-Veranstaltungen zu verbinden ist ein Beispiel – der Grand Prix ist fantastisch. Es bietet eine große Unterstützung für ParaTaekwondo, da organisatorisch alles auf höchstem Niveau abläuft. Es motiviert auch alle Para-Taekwondosportler und inspiriert sie, weil sie erkennen, dass sie gleichbehandelt werden, und dies Dank der Vision unserer Führungsebene.

DTU20: Looking forward, what changes will there be in Paris 2024 for the Paralympic Taekwondo Events?

Chakir Chelbat: We did even apply to the IPC to increase the weight categories from three to five for male as well as for female players. So we will have ten categories. We are still waiting for the decision from the IPC. We are very positive that we will remain part of the Paralympic games. And we hope the IPC will approve our request. After a successful Tokyo 2020, we will analyze an review all we did during the games , and we will have brain storm with many experts in the field Taekwon-Do and also the input from media is very important , We will also need to our MNAs input , And with this brain storm we will deliver the report to the leadership .

The work for Paris starts now. And we are focusing on our targets to make the Paralympic games a greater and successful. And i am confident Tokyo will be a great success and Paris 2024 will also be an other great success... Like I said before I am very confident. We will be very happy at the end of the games. We are looking forward to Paris in 2024. Para athletes are my heroes. The coaches are my heroes, too.

Combining the Para events with Able body events example..the Grand Prix is amazing. It provides great support for Para Taekwondo as everything is done at the highest level from an organizational perspective. It also gives great motivation and inspire the Para Taekwondo athletes who see that they are equally treated and this is thanks to the vision of the leadership.
