MANAGER'S MESSAGE
By Rob Ciapanna
Summer is here, which means increased time outside. I have dedicated my article to friendly reminders to help keep everyone safe this summer season.
The clubhouse is now under full construction. For everyone ’ s safety, please be mindful of the signage and stay away from unauthorized areas
There is no lifeguard on duty at the pool, and children should always be accompanied by an adult.
Always stay hydrated when outside. Take breaks in the shade or indoors.
We all know that this time of year brings the chances for those quick pop-up afternoon thunderstorms. The club does not have a Lightning Detection Alarm System Be mindful of when a storm is approaching and take appropriate shelter. Come in off the golf course and stay out of the pool until the storm passes
The club is equipped with 4 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator). They are located off the clubhouse lobby, between the restrooms at the pool, the Resort Cart Barn, and Golf Course Maintenance. Please remind your families of the AEDs and their locations in the event of a cardiac arrest situation
The more we are all aware of our surroundings, the more likely we are to have a fun and safe summer for our families and guests. Remember to always call 911 first in the event of an emergency.
PARKER'S POINTERS
by Parker Mulford Mental Practice
We can explore various physical aspects of the game both on and off the course.
But perhaps the best opportunity to advance our skills comes from within? This month, we will talk about Mental Practice. Mental practice is the cognitive rehearsal of a physical activity in the absence of any observable muscular movement Through mental practice, students can recreate previous experiences from memory and shape them in meaningful ways, or picture new events to prepare themselves for an upcoming physical performance
Jack Nicklaus (1974) claimed that his good shots were 50% mental picture, 40% setup and stance, and 10% swing In an interview, he described his mental practice and imagery process immediately before playing each shot as follows: “I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. It’s like a color movie. First, I ‘ see ’ the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes and I ‘ see ’ the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there is sort of a fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality These home movies are a key to my concentration and to my positive approach to every shot.”
This technique is proven in various sports as the fastest way to improve. By seeing yourself (internal imagery) performing, you are able to rehearse your swing I do this every day: some folks count sheep to go to sleep, I play golf I never get past the 3rd hole, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. When I engage in mental practice, I not only visualize what my body is doing- hitting those technique checkpoints- but I feel what those checkpoints are like within my motor sensory perception.
I mentally rehearse each swing at 30% in my mind, paying strict attention to the feelings, and then rehearse again at performance speed. And I rarely hit a bad shot in my mental practice sessions I also sleep like a baby!
Give this exercise an honest try. With a little work, you will also better define what your game is, and what you may have difficulty with in the physical can be overcome in the mental.
Enjoy and keep playing.
TURF TALK
by Patrick Wake
Warmer weather and summer is upon us, and we finally got some much needed rainfall.
Several small projects have been completed, and the mowing/growing season is here We completed plantings in several areas of the Cupp course on the tops of tall mounds, which were very hard to maintain and grow turf. A new ladies/members tee was expanded at 12 of Cupp and is ready for play also The courses have both recently been fertilized and have begun filling in after a cold/frozen winter, which will also improve playability. Light verticutting and topdressing will be a part of our weekly maintenance schedule to improve the roll of the greens and have little impact on play, and we have returned to our regular mowing schedules and frequency
We are looking forward to a great summer.

MAY 2025
INGREDIENTS FOR SMASH BURGER:
3 or 4oz 75/25 ground beef rolled into a ball
Thinly Shaved Yellow Onion
American Cheese Slice
Salt & Pepper
Butter
Burger Bun
Pub Sauce
Pickle Chips
Lettuce and Tomato are optional
METHOD:
A Blackstone griddle or any other flat-top grill is perfect for smash burgers. A cast-iron skillet also works well. Heat grill or pan to a nice hot temperature, hot enough to caramelize the onions and burger patty Prepare ground beef by rolling it into 3-4 oz round balls (the balls will get smashed thin on the grill) Place thin, shaved onions onto the grill with butter, season with salt and pepper. Put ground beef directly onto onions and press flat with a spatula as thin as possible Lightly season with salt and pepper and cook for 1 – 2 minutes; the burger will be almost completely cooked, and the onions will be caramelized Flip the burger and immediately add a slice of American cheese. Grill the bun with some melted butter Make it a single, double, or triple patty depending on how hungry you are.
