Arnold and Gershner honored as first DVB Hall of Fame inductees The City of DeValls Bluff held its first DeValls Bluff Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, March 25. A crowd of approximately 260 friends, family members, former DVB students, and former DVB faculty members attended the event, which was held in the old DeValls Bluff Scrapper Gymnasium, now owned by Allen Childress. The gym was decorated in the Scrapper colors of purple and gold, and the attendees were treated to a free catfish and barbeque dinner. Honorees for the evening were Bill Arnold, a long-time counselor for DeValls Bluff High School, and Larry Gershner, a former Superintendent of the DeValls School District. Gershner now resides in Rogers, Arkansas. Arnold is a long-time citizen of DeValls Bluff, and both he and his wife Sharon are actively involved in improving the community of DeValls Bluff through The Arnold Foundation, founded by their son, Curtis Arnold. The evening’s activities were hosted by emcee Brandon Smith, a graduate of DeValls Bluff High School (DVBHS). Former DeValls Bluff School District high school principal and superintendent Charles Eads of Carlisle and former DVBHS Social Studies teacher Helen Holloway of DeValls Bluff were there to tell those in attendance about the accomplishments and dedication of the two hon-
orees. Both Arnold and Gershner were presented with plaques, which will be displayed in the old gym along side other DVBHS memoribilia. Gershner’s “temporary” plaque will be replaced with the real one as soon as it arrives. Entertainment for the evening was provided by another DVB graduate, Allan Broussard, and his band. The organizers of the banquet were very pleased with the large turnout, and thank Allen Childress and other volunteers for their hard work and generosity that helped make the night possible. The group plans to make the banquet an annual event.
