Shelia Faye Bednar, 78, of Stuttgart passed away Monday, June 2, 2025. She was born Dec. 3, 1946, in Stuttgart to Calvin Leo and Maud Ellen Woods Warden who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and member of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where she served on the church’s Altar Society.

Shelia was a vibrant woman whose unmistakable laugh filled a room. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and an unwavering faith in God. She was a fiercely loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose devotion and strength shaped the lives of those she held dear. She was a strong woman who never complained for herself, though she didn’t hesitate to stand up for others. Her quick wit and sense of humor brought light to every room, and her laughter lives on in our memories. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by her.

Shelia loved to work in her flower garden and bake with her church baking team at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Her friends remember her for her

effervescence, charm and willingness to lend an ear. The beauty salon she operated for many years was a place in which her talent and many other graces were extended beyond family and friends. She was the heart of our family, especially during the holidays, when her incredible meals and welcoming spirit drew us all together. We all remember the love and the laughter she brought us. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Larry Bednar; their children, Bart Bednar and wife Rachel of Carlisle and Angie Yarbrough and husband Jeffery of Rogers; her four grandchildren, Nathan Bednar, Jack Bednar, Sophie Yarbrough and Jacob Yarbrough; and brother, Brent Warden of Pine Bluff.

Visitation was held at 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with the rosary being said at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. with burial following in St. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Her family requests memorials be made to St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church-Slovak, 1852 Hwy. 86 West, Stuttgart, Ark. 72160. Please go to www.turpin-co.com to sign the online guestbook.

ARDOT w arns o f t e xt f raud

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) warns Arkansans to be cautious of fraudulent texts asking for personal information or payment information. ARDOT has received reports of fraudulent text messages posing as the “Arkansas Vehicle Administration” to collect payments for traffic violations. These scam messages include fake links that appear to come from ARDOT, and some even use real ticket numbers. The Arkansas

Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) is separate from ARDOT. There is no validity to these messages. “DFA will never send you a text regarding a traffic ticket,” DFA spokesperson Scott Hardin said.

“Please ignore it and warn friends and family. Thousands of Arkansans are receiving this text today.” These fraudulent messages come on the heels of a previous texting scam relating to toll roads.

In February 2025, Arkansas Attorney

General Tim Griffin alerted Arkansans to a scam targeting mobile phone users through fraudulent text messages. Those behind the text messages were posing as toll service providers to steal personal information and trick recipients into making fake payments.

“If you get one of these texts, please fill out the robocall reporting form on my website, and do not send payment to any entity that only contacts you via text,” Attorney General Tim Griffin said.

CHS grad making big strides with LR Trojans program

For Tyler Sanders, he’s always loved baseball. And his love of baseball helped him get a chance to work with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Trojans baseball team.

The Trojans just completed a dream run where they were won win away from a Super Regional, taking perennial power LSU to the bring of the Baton Rouge Regional last week.

Sanders just finished his seventh year as the director of clubhouse operations for the Little Rock Trojans baseball team.

“As the director, my main responsibilities include ordering, designing and distributing all apparel and equipment to the staff and players,” Sanders said. HIs duties include order food for the team. He’s also assisted with other duties, such as field work, laundry, tagging pitches, team video and whatever is thrown his way.

Sanders graduated from Carlisle High School in 2017. He attended Arkansas State University-Beebe for one year, pursuing a degree in mathematics.

“My initial plan was to get my degree in Mathematics and come back home to Carlisle to coach,” he said. “After my first year at ASU, I transferred to Little Rock to continue my degree.”

Sanders was driving back and forth from Carlisle to Little Rock

each day and working at the local grocery store.

I got an email one day about baseball having open walk-on tryouts,” Sanders said. “I asked my mom and dad what they thought. They told me that the worst thing that could happen is that I was told no, and I continued with my life.

“I also give credit to Thomas Moran for allowing me to be late for work that afternoon so I could go to the tryout.”

The day after the tryout, Sanders got a call from Little Rock pitching coach R.D. Spiehs, offering him a student manager position where he would set up practices and work on laundry.

“I decided to move on to campus at Christmas break where I could be at more practices and work for the team more,” Sanders said. “I spent five seasons as the team manager and gained more responsibility each each. Once I got my degree, Coach Chris Curry offered me a position to stay on staff, and I gladly accepted.”

Sanders earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from UALR in the spring of 2023. Since then, Sanders has been working full time for the Little Rock program.

The Trojans were the eighth seed heading into the Ohio Valley Conference. They went on a run, winning five games in four days to win the tournament and qualify for the NCAA tournament.

After getting sent to

Baton Rouge as the fourth seed, they faced LSU in the first round, losing 7-0. The Trojans then beat Rhode Island 22-10 and Dallas Baptist 8-6 to get to the championship round against LSU.

Little Rock forced a deciding game by beating LSU 10-4 before falling to the Tigers 106 in the final game.

“This run is something that will be talked about in Little Rock baseball history forever,” Sanders said. “There were so many ‘firsts’ throughout the run. We were the first 8 seed to make it out of the first day of the conference tournament, the first 8 seed to win the tournament, the first time in program history that we have won a regional game. We tripled our regional wins in just two days. We were ‘American’s team’ going into Monday against LSU.

“The run will be etched in my memory forever and will be something I talk to my future kids and grandkids about. It is one of the most special times in my life.”

Sanders said the atmosphere at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge was “electrifying.”

“In the third game, you couldn’t hear yourself think,” he said. “Both Baum-Walker in Fayetteville and Swayze Field at Ole Miss are beautiful stadiums, but the atmosphere that comes with Alex Box is something that no other stadium can replicate. The pressure was there knowing that with one more win, we would go to the first Super Regional in program history, but we weren’t supposed to be there. We felt no pressure knowing that we had already exceeded our expectations.”

As Sanders enters his eighth year at UALR in the fall, he will be director of equipment operations for all sports on the UALR campus.

Trojans in regiona l

Former Carlisle Bison

pitcher Zach Busick made a big difference for the Little Rock Trojans during the 2025 Baton Rouge Regional. Busick, sophomore, helped the Trojans to an 8-6 win over Dallas Baptist in the loser’s bracket final, sending his team to the championship round against LSU.

In the win over Dallas Baptist, Busick pitched four innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked two in four innings of work. He had the most innings pitched during the game as the Trojans rallied from 4-3 deficit to win.

His appearance against Dallas Baptist was his first in over two weeks after pitching against Southeast Missouri State on May 17.

The Trojans made it to the finals of the Baton

Rouge Regional, falling to LSU in the winnertake-all championship game on June 2.

“I’ll be honest … it didn’t real real at first,” Busick said of playing in the regional at Alex Box Stadium. “The atmosphere was something I had never been a part of before. I had always wanted to be a part of a regional growing up and watched to pitch on one of the biggest stages in college baseball.”

Busick said his performance against Dallas Baptist was something he’ll always remember. “It was awesome being able to contribute for my team in such a huge way,” he said. “For me, personally, it was just a huge boost of confidence knowing I can pitch on any stage after beating a Top 25 program. It is definitely up on the same tier as Ole Miss, but I don’t think anything will ever top what happened in the region-

al. I had the whole team and city behind me against Dallas Baptist.”

Earlier this season, Busick started and pitched three innings against Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., as the Trojans beat the Rebels 7-3. A week later, he started against the Arkansas Razorbacks at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

Busick said he has as much fun when he’s not pitching as he does when he’s on the mound.

“Obviously, I want to be in the game and contribute,” he said. “But when I’m in the bullpen, we always do something to stay entertained or locked in.”

Busick is studying business management at UALR.

“I am looking forward to coming back to Little Rock and getting back into another regional,” he said.
