Hooks,Mc Anally win 2019 Law School trial competition FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Third-year law students Chris Hooks of Slovak and his team mate, David McAnally, have won the 2019 William H. Sutton Barrister's Union Trial Competition. The team of Kelli Albrecht and Chris Carwile were runners-up. Chris is the son of Paul and Carol Hooks. U.S. Magistrate Judge Joe J. Volpe, Eastern District of Arkansas;

Judge Kenneth S. Hixson, Arkansas Court of Appeals; and Judge Robin Green, 19th West Judicial Circuit, presided over the final round. Hixson and Green are University of Arkansas School of Law alumni. The championship, held Friday, Oct. 11, in the E.J. Ball Courtroom, concluded three weeks and five rounds of competition. One hundred and

thirteen practicing attorneys and legal scholars served as judges earning more than 100 hours of continuing legal education credit for their participation. Student involvement included 64 competitors and more than 64 additional volunteers who served as witnesses or timekeepers, making this one of the largest competitions in school history.

Students Courtney Brooks and Duncan Street, members of the school's Board of Advocates, co-chaired the competition, which is one of several presented by the board each year. The Board of Advocates is a student-run organization that promotes the extracurricular development of practical skills, in both oral and written advocacy, through practice and

participation in both internal and external competition. The Sutton Trial Competition is held annually and is named for William H. Sutton (19312015), a 1959 graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Law with a distinguished legal career that spanned more than five decades.

Free reviews of Medicare drug plans scheduled for Nov.1 North Little Rock, Ark.– CareLink, Central Arkansas’s Area Agency on Aging, is gearing up for another open enrollment season by offering free Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) plan reviews to Medicare recipients in the area. Carelink representatives will be at the Des Arc Senior Center on November 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. To make an appointment for a free review, call CareLink at 501.372.5300 or toll-free at 8 0 0 . 4 8 2 . 6 3 5 9 . Homebound older people may request a review of medications in their

homes. As health needs and health insurance plans change annually, Medicare recipients should re-evaluate their plans to ensure they have the best coverage for the next year. “As a local nonprofit unaffiliated with any insurance plan, our counselors provide an objective review of medications and offerings from Medicare Part D insurers to determine the best plan for a person in 2020,” Kim Sanders, Community Services Supervisor said. “In the past, these reviews have saved some people hundreds of dollars monthly.”

Medicare recipients will need to make their final selection for Medicare coverage by Dec. 7 to ensure their coverage continues without interruption. Medicare recipients must have an appointment for a review at CareLink’s North Little Rock office or during scheduled times at the Des Arc Senior Center. For more information about Medicare services and qualifications, call CareLink’s Information & Assistance Department at 501.372.5300, toll free at 800.482.6359 or visit CareLink.org.
