included an expulsion hearing. The student’s mother asked that the hearing be held in private, so the board went into executive session. When they returned to the meeting, the board voted to expel the student until the end of the 201718 school year. Member Williams abstained from voting. Principal Glover told the board about the upcoming math and science night to be held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24. She said that the literacy night will be held on December 7th. She also said that the 6th -8th grade community helpers would be going to see an Edgar Allen Poe play soon. Principal Williams reported that the 9th graders would be going to the state capital in November, and that the FCCLA members would be participating in the upcoming Star Events competition. He also said that senior Grant Shelman tied for 12th overall in the state school invitational tournament. No other business was discussed, and the meeting was adjourned.

refinancing. FTN Financial Capital Markets, a division of First Tennessee, won the bid by offering a rate of 3.062% for the principal amount of $6,095,000 issue dated November 9, 2017 with a maturity date of February 1, 2045. The purchase price was reduced to $5,989,371.16.
Five firms bid on the bond refinancing. McBryde told the board that there would be a $200,000 savings this year, with an overall savings of $728,284 over the life of the issue. The savings can be used for any purpose. Farmers and Merchants Bank will be the trustee for the bonds. In other business, the board approved the superintendent’s recommendation to renew the Renaissance Learning subscription for the elementary and high school libraries in the amount of $8,980.50 to be paid out of National School Lunch (NSL) funds. Crowder also recommended, and the board approved, to rename the Hazen Elementary Library to the Beth Rogers Memorial Library. Jenny Simmons spoke to the board about the money that had been donated for the library. Simmons said so much money has been donated that they may end up funding a scholarship.
