General Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The requirements set forth in this section apply to all students regardless of major. While every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided herein, Hendrix College reserves the right to make changes at any time without prior notice. The College provides the information in this Guide solely for the convenience of the reader and, to the extent permissible by law, expressly disclaims any liability which may otherwise be incurred. Note: Students are again reminded that final responsibility for completing all graduation requirements rests solely with the individual student. The Hendrix Catalog is the governing document for degree and related requirements. Daily Class Schedule information and an Academic Planning Worksheet are provided at the back of this Guide. Students are encouraged to use these materials in planning their courses for each of their years at Hendrix. A Hendrix Degree Audit Sheet is also provided for tracking the completion of graduation requirements.

The Program for the Bachelor of Arts Degree The academic program of Hendrix College comprises diverse elements in a coherent whole, combining design with flexibility. The general education requirements at the College, referred to as the Collegiate Center, consist of four components – The Freshman Experience, Capacities, Learning Domains, and the Odyssey Program. The Freshman Experience consists of a one-credit freshman common course, Journeys, and a onequarter credit freshman weekly seminar, Explorations. The Capacities requirement recognizes that all students must exhibit basic proficiencies in fundamental skills used across multiple disciplines. The Learning Domains afford multiple options for acquiring a basic understanding of the content, disciplinary styles, and modes of inquiries of the humanities, the natural sciences, and the social sciences in ways that may cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. Your Hendrix Odyssey: Engaging in Active Learning expands and formalizes currently available options for undergraduate research, study abroad, artistic development, internships, service experiences, and other
