NEW BIBLES

BIBLIA GERMANICA LESEPROBE, 1545 EDITION MARTIN LUTHER

Martin Luther’s 1545 German translation of the Bible adds to Hendrickson Publisher’s robust line of historical Bibles. Numerous woodcuts, headings, and Luther’s own explanatory notes accompany the German Bible text. No other German book has exercised for centuries such a profound effect on the German language as the German Bible of Martin Luther. Over time other German translations appeared, and in the present we see an almost bewildering abundance of new translations, but the Luther Bible launched the progression of the German language. In addition, the Luther text set binding standards for dealing with the biblical word. The output is one column set, with the exception of the Psalter and the Proverbs of Solomon, which are in two columns. This print is a replica of the 1545 Luther Bible, of which only two originals are left. This replica maintains the numerous woodcuts, headings, and explanatory notes of Luther. 10 1/4 x inches • 1552 pages 978-1-61970-894-5 Hardcover with slipcase . . . . . . . . . . . . . Retail $199.95 Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German monk, priest, professor, theologian, and church reformer whose teachings inspired the Reformation and deeply influenced not only the doctrines and culture of the Lutheran and Protestant traditions but also the course of Western civilization. THE KJV 1611 BIBLE KING JAMES VERSION

For 400 years, the Authorized Version of the Bible—popularly known as the King James Version—has been beloved for its majestic phrasing and stately cadences. No other book has so profoundly influenced our language or our theology. Over time, however, the text has suffered subtle and occasionally troublesome alterations. This edition preserves the original 1611 printing. Word for word and page for page, the text appears as it first did save for a more readable roman typeface. MATTHEW’S BIBLE, 1537 EDITION In 1537, Pastor John Rogers assembled a volume that contained all of William Tyndale’s translation work: the 1534 New Testament, the Pentateuch, and the nine historical books. Rogers filled in the gaps with the work of Miles Coverdale (1535). Archbishop Thomas Cranmer had the Matthew’s Bible shown to King Henry VIII, who then licensed the complete Bible in English. Thomas Cromwell, Henry’s Viceregent for church affairs, subsequently encouraged bishops to order copies of the Matthew’s Bible for their churches, sparking tremendous demand for the Bible. EVERYDAY MATTERS BIBLE FOR WOMEN

Practical Encouragement to Make Every Day Matter

NEW LIVING TRANSLATION

Today’s Christian woman is so busy handling the challenges of day-to-day life that spending time in the Word can easily become yet another “should” buried in that growing list of daily “musts.” Created in partnership with Christianity Today, the Everyday Matters Bible for Women is designed to help women develop spiritual practices that will make their lives richer, not harder. It offers practical encouragement and tools to renew, reinvigorate, and restore meaning to everyday life. This Bible features twenty-four disciplines—or practices—that position us to receive power and strength to do those things we cannot possibly do on our own and make everyday life fuller and deeper. Each discipline is represented by a colorful icon whose illustration is a reminder of its meaning. The contemporary language of the New Living Translation combines with more than 300 articles and features by more than 140 of today’s most well-known Christian leaders and writers, including: Kay Warren, Priscilla Shirer, Elisa Morgan, Nancy and John Ortberg, Richard Foster, Liz Curtis Higgs, and Tim Keller.
