JOSEPH ADAM MITSCHER

48, of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Joseph was born September 20, 1973 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of Ronald and Joann Mitscher. Joe was a forklift operator at Aurora Parts & Accessories in Lebanon, Indiana.

Joe is survived by his children: Devan, Kayla, Lindsay and Cole Mitscher, sister: Rhonda Johnson, brother: Dan (Kathleen) Mitscher and a grandson: Logan Macomber.

He is preceded in death by his mother: Joann “Adamson” Mitscher.

DONALD WAYNE GREGORY

66, of Brownsburg, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 surrounded by his loving family after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was the son of Margaret Jane Gregory and James V. Gregory. Don so loved his family and his many long-time friends. He enjoyed a great 32- year career at American Trans Air (ATA), where his co-workers were like a second family. He worked at IUPUI for the last 12 years and recently retired from the IU School of Medicine as a Facilities Operation Manager.

Don and Pattie celebrated 29 years of marriage in October. Don loved riding Harleys, IndyCar racing, fishing, shooting pool and traveling. His greatest joy was getting to see his two grandsons, Logan and Beau.

He is survived by his loving-wife, Pattie Gregory, daughters Angela Gregory (Jennifer Scott) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Amanda Gregory (Jason Chrapek) of Avon, grandsons Logan and Beau Chrapek, step-daughter Kaleigh Scott, brother Mark (Lynette) Gregory, sister Rhonda Pickett, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Calling will take place on Thursday November 11, 2021 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Conkle Funeral Home in Speedway. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Family would like to acknowledge IU Simon Cancer Center and Life’s Journey Hospice and all the individuals who played a role in his care. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the American Cancer Society or other cancer research organization in Don’s honor.

GERRY VANCE SMITH, 75, passed peacefully on October 24, 2021 and DARLENE SUE SMITH, 74, passed peacefully on November 1, 2021, both of Brownsburg.

They are survived by their three sons and seven grand children. Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway where a memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the Memorial Service for Gerry and Darlene. JOHN E. JONES

age 80, formerly Greencastle and Coatesville, passed away November 8, 2021, at Wellbrooke of Avon.

He was born in Coatesville, Indiana on October 1, 1941 the son of Wilbur E. Jones and Frances Wallace Jones. He worked for IBM for 28 years and then WalMart 8 years.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Senior Citizens Center, and Sons of American Legion all at Greencastle. He loved playing Euchre and watching IU basketball. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by wife, Marcia Jones, Brownsburg; daughter, Jonna Hampton and husband, Doug, Avon; grandchildren, John Sears and wife, Ronni, Brownsburg, Jeffrey Hampton, Boardman, Ore., and Jamie Harrell and husband, Brad, Danville; great-granddaughter, Katherine Harrell; brother Joe Jones and wife, Susan, Coatesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and a brother. Jim Jones.

MARY LEE MORRISON

87, formerly of Jamestown and Crawfordsville, Indiana passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at her home in Horn Lake, Miss.

She was born on March 12, 1934 in Shelbyville, Ind., daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Barricklow. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1952. Mary was united in marriage to Melvin Gene Morrison on January 14, 1961; he preceded her in death on August 20, 2008.

She owned and operated the Furniture Mart in Ladoga, with her late husband for many years until retiring in 2003.

Mary lived with her daughter Penny and son-in-law Tony after the death of her husband. She was happiest at home with her family and providing companionship to Penny, Tony and their 4 dogs.

Survivors include her daughter, Penny Keeler of Horn Lake, Mississippi; son, Stephen Morrison of Crawfordsville, Indiana; grandchildren, Aaron, Deanna, Renee and Josh; sister, Charlotte Hodges of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services took place Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown, Ind.

BARBARA ANN JOHN

76, of Avon, passed away November 7, 2021.

She was born August 18, 1945 to the late Robert C. and Patricia (Reese) Bailey in Indianapolis. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Ball State University and went on to receive her degree as a Specialist in Education. Barb began her career in education as an art teacher. She enjoyed working with special needs children at Wilson Middle School in Muncie. Barb went on to become a school psychologist and practiced for twenty years. She also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children.

Barb loved all things Fall; buying pumpkins and bittersweet brought her joy. It was fitting that she left us on a beautiful Autumn night. She took great pleasure in decorating for the holidays and spending time with friends and family. She also loved nature and traveling; Brown County State Park, Indiana and Platte Lake, Michigan were a few of her favorite destinations. She would often travel by car so that she could meander and explore the area. Barb was very creative and shared her talent with others by making them homemade cards, painted rocks, and decor. She didn’t always play by the rules and encouraged others to do the same.

Her family would like to give a special thanks to Northwest Healthcare Center’s staff for their kind and compassionate care.

Barb is survived by her son, David M. (Rachael) John; a daughter, Shelby K. (Allan) John Enderwitz; a granddaughter, Silvia John; and her special friend, her dog, Bella.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. A private inurnment was held at Edgar Cemetery in Paris, Ill.. C. A. WILLIAM SWOPE, SR.

80, of Clayton, passed away at his home in the early morning on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services with the celebration of his life were held 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Clayton. Burial followed in Clayton Cemetery.

C.A. was born in West Newtown, Ind. to the late Charles Anderson W. and Daisy (Moore) Swope. He grew up in Hall, Ind. and attended Arsenal Technical High School. C.A. worked as a dry wall contractor and would later own and operate Swope Dry Wall.

He was fun loving, enjoyed music, dancing, and playing the guitar. He loved to hunt, fish, and go camping. He was known for his abundant vegetable garden and would share his bounty with his friends and neighbors. He was a sound, voice of reasoning to his family and was always willing to help a friend.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Connie (Lee) Swope, children, Rebecca Swope of Long Beach, Calif., Rochella (Tim) Johnson of Avon, C.A. William (Donna) Swope, Jr. of Spencer, Dale Swope of San Pedro, Calif., Kathy (Ryan) Sebree of Avon, and stepson, Les Cummings of Clayton.

C.A. was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-inlaw, Martha (Buck) Monday and Joann (Don) Eubanks, and his stepson, Billy Munden.

Contributions may be offered to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

MARTHA M. ELLIOTT

81, of Danville, passed away November 3, 2021.

She was born November 11, 1939 to the late William and Corine (Kersey) Maurer in Terre Haute, Ind. She graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute. After graduating from high school she attended Indiana State University.

She worked at Commercial Solvents until she married George Elliott in April of 1962. She worked 27 years for United Technologies Carrier retiring as an executive secretary in 2000.

Martha was a loving and devoted wife to George for 54 years (he passed away January 25, 2017). She was a member of the Brownsburg Church of Christ. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, games, and going out to eat with her friends. She enjoyed entertaining in her home providing meals for family and friends. She was a committed Christian. She inspired many, and her soul was as beautiful as she was.

Martha is survived by three sons, Stephen (Maureen), Greg (Amy), and Tim (Amy Jo) Elliott; 11 grandchildren, Seth (Jessica) Elliott, Sarah (Aaron) Swick, Jacob Elliott, Sydney Elliott, McKenna Elliott, Daniel Elliott, Jonathan Elliott, Joseph Elliott, Thomas Elliott, Kaitlyn Elliott, and Emily Elliott; a great granddaughter, Braylee Swick; and a sister, Becky (Richard) Wible. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 8, 2021 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Monday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.

MARCUS GARNETT PHILLIPPE

89, passed away Thursday November 4, 2021 in Indianapolis, after living with Alzheimer’s for a number of years.

Born on January 17, 1932 on the island of Saba in the Dutch West Indies, he spent his childhood living on several Caribbean islands with his missionary family before leaving for Indiana to attend high school at Frankfort Pilgrim High School.

He married Ruth Marie Royer in 1952 and then served in the Army in Japan during the Korean war. A number of years later, he and Ruth became missionaries in Zambia, Africa where they remained until 1966. Upon returning to the US, he became a middle school industrial arts teacher in Indianapolis. He also pastored a small Wesleyan church there for some time. Later, he and Ruth taught a Sunday School class at a larger Nazarene church for many years. Upon retirement he and his wife lived in Avon.

Marcus loved music and singing, swimming, carpentry, church life, and traveling. He possessed a quiet demeanor with a playful sense of humor and was a man of principle and great integrity.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; one brother, Paul Phillippe (Sally); two sisters, Naomi Croft (John) and Esther Phillippe; one son, Larry Phillippe; three daughters, Janet Phillippe, Brenda Auch, and Linda Taggart (Brian); eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward E. Phillippe and Eunice (Petry) Phillippe.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Westside Church of the Nazarene. Burial was at West Ridge Park Cemetery. Arrangements, Conkle Funeral Home Avon Chapel.

BARBARA B. MATHIAS,

BARBARA B. MATHIAS,age 87, of Amo, passed away November 6, 2021 in the IU West Hospital.

Born July 18, 1934 in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Alwaine Brooks and Ethel (Cowan) Brooks. She married Jeremiah Mathias and he preceded her in 1996.

Barbara was a homemaker and also worked as a Cook for the Hendricks County Jail and also Dietician for the Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Danville.

Her hobbies were cooking, crochet, shopping and yard sales.

Survivors includes children, Diane Fortner, Indianapolis, Donnie Fortner, Greencastle, Angela Cyphers, Tenn., and Larry Fortner, Amo; 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, daughter Linda Kenworthy (Rady), sons Danny Fortner and Harold Fortner, son-inlove Orland Cyphers, brothers, Billy, Jack, Joe and Kenneth Brooks, and a sister Martha Harrell preceded her.

Gravesite services took place Tuesday, November 9, 2021 in the New Winchester Cemetery with Pastor Brian Richardson officiating. Bousley Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

JEAN LOUISE EDEN

94, of Avon. passed away November 2, 2021.

She was born October 14, 1927 in Drake, Kentucky the daughter of Ira and Ollie M. (White) Martin.

Jean was a homemaker and later in her life she was a self-employed nanny. She is a member of Brownsburg Church of Christ.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Benny J. Eden, and son, Billy R. Eden.

She is survived by a daughter, Elaine E. Gray and her husband Dennis, granddaughters, Misty and Amy, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service took place. Friday November 5, 2021 at Conkle Funeral Home, Avon Chapel. Burial was in Groves Cemetery Portland, Tenn.

DONALD H. LILLARD

79, of Clayton, passed away November 04, 2021.

He was born on August 18, 1942 in Salmon, Kentucky, to the late William Edgar and Flossie Haydeen (Keen) Lillard. He married Mary Louise Jackson on May 25, 1973 in Indianapolis.

Don was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for many years and also belonged to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Lillard of Clayton; sons, William “Bill” Lillard, Matthew Lillard; daughter, Kimberly Powell; stepdaughters, Teresa Nelms, Pamela Allee; sisters, Rose Haase, Dinah Knipe, Teresa Lee, Rebecca Poag; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

His parents and stepson, Darren Hulett, preceded him in death.

MICHAEL E. NOSTRAND

of Plainfield, passed away October 31st, 2021, at the age of 69. He was born to Conrad Charles and Angelica Louis Nostrand in 1952.

Michael was a jack of all trades who was always tinkering on projects. He loved to cook and was known for making the best meatballs. Michael also loved games, like solitaire. He was an avid music fans, with some of his favorite artists being Frank Sinatra, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, George Michael, and Garth Brooks. Michael also loved animals, especially dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Angelica, and his brother, Gerald Nostrand.

Michael is survived by his children, Jessica Nostrand (Sean Caffey), Patrick Nostrand (Peggy Anne Evans), Travis Nostrand (Amber Beams); his sibling, Carolyn Quinnette, Timothy Nostrand, Sandra Nostrand Keller; his grandchildren, Cheyanne, Destiny, Grace, Megan, Chloe, Maxine, Tempi, Evelyn, and his great-grandchildren, King and Lamont.

DARLENE SUE SMITH

74, of Brownsburg, died peacefully surrounded by her three sons in the hospital on November 1, 2021.

Darlene was the daughter of Norman Ray Beasley and Roberta Margaret Beasley in Indianapolis. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1965. Following graduation, she and Gerry Smith were married and soon began a family, Jefferson David Smith, Ronald Neal Smith, and Jason Vance Smith.

She had three siblings. Robert Ray Beasley (1931- 2009), Eugene R. Beasley (1934 – 1969), and survived by Rosemary G. Beasley (1935 – present).

Darlene was survived by her grandchildren and two daughters-in-law. Wesley Smith, Christy Smith and Katy Smith,Veronica Smith, Chandler Smith, Austin Smith, and Samantha Smith. Darlene had a special zest for life that included her love of cooking, home décor, crafting, collecting, antiques, and her love of dogs (Sadie was her last wire-haired fox terrier that brought her so much joy). She also enjoyed her black cars and loud music.

RICHARD L. LaFURIA

75, of Plainfield, passed away on October 27, 2021.

He was born on September 25, 1946 in Litchfield, Illinois, to the late Louis and Leona (Bostic) LaFuria.

Richard was a Master Sergeant for the United States Air Force, entering the service in June 1964 and retiring in June 1984 after 20 years. He was a member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653.

Survivors include his wife, Ynema M. LaFuria of Plainfield; children, Scott Richard LaFuria (Julianne) Mount Olive, Illinois, Christopher David LaFuria Donaldson, Illinois, Tammy Rackard (Tim) Puxico, Missouri; stepson, Christopher Bowling; grandchildren: Kira Buzick, Jake Buzick, Beth Cherry, Ashlynn Battoe, Trevor Buzick and Memphis LaFuria.; 11 great grandchildren; step grandchildren, Joshua Bowling, Jourdan Bowling Hagedorn, Brandon Bowling, Lauren Bowling; and 2 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his step son Chad Bowling.

KYLE JOSEPH WADE

37, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

He was born October 7, 1984 in Indianapolis. His parents are Ronald Lee and Brenda Kay (Coles) Wade. He was a resident of Indianapolis for most of his life.

Kyle was a 2003 graduate of Plainfield High School. He graduated in 2008 from Anderson University with his Bachelor’s Degree. Kyle was a Gas Technician for Citizens Energy Group in Indianapolis for the last five years.

Kyle was very artistic and enjoyed crafts and wood working. Kyle also loved his dog, Lola.

Kyle is survived by his parents, Ronald Lee and Brenda Kay (Coles) Wade of Mooresville; his sister, Brandy and brother in law, Nicholas Probst of Whiteland; Grandparents: Judge Robert and Linda Coles and Charles and Alice Wade; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kyle is preceded in death by his grandmother, Norma Myers.

A Celebration of Life took place Tuesday, November 9,at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.

DOUGLAS W. KAUFMAN

age 53, of Amo, passed away on November 2, 2021.

He was born on April 24, 1968 in Indianapolis to Tom Kaufman and Linda Withrow. He was a graduate of Cascade H.S. and attended trade school to be an electrician for Enterprise Electric Company in Fishers, Indiana.

Doug was a true outdoorsman. He loved to deer hunt, fish, and spend time with friends and family, especially his grandkids.

Survivors include his parents, Linda and William Withrow and Tom and Pam Kaufman; children, Brady (Amber), Chris (Savannah), Kierstan, and Nicholas; grandchildren, Sabena, Ronan, Laurelai, and Tobias; siblings, Tom (Janet) Kaufman II, Valarie (Ron) Human, Billy Withrow, Celia (Donnie) White, and Anita (Jason) Jones; and many more beloved family members.

BRENDA KAY WILKINS

66, of Plainfield, passed away November 5, 2021.

She was born January 19, 1955 to the late John and Juanita (Harvey) Stinnett in Indianapolis. Brenda was employed by Gray Brother’s Cafeteriaover 47 years, retiring in 2020.

Brenda leaves behind many memories, filled with laughter and love.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Jerry R. Wilkins; daughters, Wendy K. Wilkins and Crystal (Walter) Wilkins-Ciesielski; sisters, Wanda MacPherson, Deborah Berge and Anna (Sam) Dennis; and grandchildren, Daniel Bingham, Jessica Rickett and Jasmine Bingham-Sicting.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Stinnett.

JANIE SUE FLYNN

age 67, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 6, 2021 in St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel.

She was born on September 19, 1954 in Hazard, Kentucky to Wilbert and Janie Couch Newton.

Sue was a sales entrepreneur: “The only people that didn’t buy something off Sue were the people that didn’t talk to her.”

Sue was a contributing author to the award winning book She Became Me. She attended Kingsway Christian Church in Avon.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years Paul Manzullo; daughters, Patty Hartung (Bob) and Lisa Gatchel (Tommy); mother, Janie Newton; sisters, Brenda Bourne, Linda Sullivan, Melissa Wynn and Debbie Gray-Scott; brothers, John Gray, Jeffrey Gray, Pete Gray, Jerry Gray, Mike Newton and Junior Wooten; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; beloved Chihuahua, Pedro.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 2 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield with Pastor Jonathon Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time, Thursday, in the funeral home. Arthur was born June 20, 1965 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of the late Arthur Barnes and Virginia Stockton. He worked for OmniSource Corporation in maintenance.

Bubby is survived by his brother-in-law, Glenn McCauley; nieces, Mandy Bouso and Lexie McCauley.
