Ruff House Adventures “Four on the Floor” Are you tired of your dog jumping on you or other people? Does your dog get excited when you come home? It’s great they are excited to see us, but getting scratched doesn’t feel that good. Or you may be tired from work, and don’t have the energy at the moment. This is a common issue, and with a little training this behavior could be fixed. Continue reading if this happens with your doggie.
“Four on the Floor” is a great training tactic. At the times your dog jumps, don’t look at them or give any pats. You don’t want to reward the dog for doing a behavior that is not wanted. You should continue to ignore your dog until they have all four paws on the floor. Immediately reward after all their paws on the floor, start giving your dog some pats and “good doggie”.
Contact Ruff House Adventures, if you need further help.

Holiday Window Decoration Features Printing History

Thanks to Advertising Manager and Staff Artist, Kirsten Simon, The Republican’s window has a spooky theme with a nod to the newspaper’s history. Against a swirling sky is a silhouette of a pumpkin-headed Linotype operator setting “hot type” among a gathering of jack-olanterns.
Say It Ain’t So, Santa!

With little fanfare and quite a bit of the sound of chainsaws, the community Christmas tree on the north side of the court house yard was rcently cut down and cleared away.
That tree was planted in memory of H. Hunt Palmer (1955-2000), a member of the Hendricks County Council (see photo at right). The tree was showing signs of damage with many of the interior branches broken off.

A new Christmas tree was planted on the southside of the court house last July, a cooperative effort between the Downtown Danville Partnership, Hendricks County, and the Town of Danville. It will be several years before a ladder, let alone a scissor lift, will be needed to decorate the new tree, but Santa has entered it in his GPS.

Puffball Makes Appearance

Jim and Barbara Eldridge of Danville found a mysterious, fast-growing object in their yard. It was their first close encounter with a puffball.
A type of fungi, the puff-ball sends out dust-like spores when the mature fruit bursts or is impacted. This one had reached 14 in. when last measured. We don’t know if it is still expanding, but haven’t spotted any puff signals yet.

Warriors Best Western Boone Stars

Danville vs. Western Boone Stars
The Danville Warriors are in the middle of another great season of football as they stand poised to make a second consecutive run at a state title. There are times, however, when what happens on the gridiron is dwarfed by what happens outside of the confines of a game and will have an even greater impact on the life of students, and the community.
It was Senior night at Danville last Friday. As is customary on a such a night, senior football players, cheerleaders, team assistants, and band members took a stroll across the field with family members to their left and to their right, in a moment designed to recognize the contributions made by the students in their time at Danville High School, and to say ‘thank you’ to the supportive parents and siblings who were a part of the journey. One-by-One, the senior names were called and with family in tow, they made their way across field before stopping on the home-team sideline. All was going as you would expect until football player, Hayden Lamb’s name was called.
The announcement of Lamb’s name started just as everyone else’s. As he began his walk across the field with his mom, the announcer said his father’s name and explained that he was not there because of his active military duty status. Everyone was surprised and began to cheer as Hayden’s father began walking from the north end of the field as the announcer continued the introduction by explaining that he was able to return home for this special night. Once Hayden realized what was going on, he turned and saw his father and they instantly embraced. The crowd cheered, and for at least that moment, the task at hand for the night was a distant thought. It was a touching moment that left hardly a dry eye in the stadium. Congratulations to all who were able to make that happen! Oh yes…the football game. This night marked the second time Coach Jayme Comer had to face his old team since leaving an assistant role at Western Boone (Webo) to take the head coaching job in Danville before the 2020-2021 season. He would look to go 2-0 against his former club.
While Webo was not the same team that dominated just a couple of years ago, they entered the contest with a 5-2 record and a game that carried a little more importance because of the history. This did not seem to matter to the Warriors as they started the game the same way they start many games this year: On fire offensively and defensively. Webo took the opening possession but was quickly met by a stiff Warrior defense when Trey Morrell intercepted a pass from Quarterback Elliott Young. He returned it to the Webo 17 yard line, giving Danville quarterback Kale Payne a short field. The Warrior offense wasted no time scoring as Andrew Poppa ran it in from 7-yards out to give the home team an early 7-0 lead.
The defense for Danville continued its stingy play stopping the Stars and forcing a punt. On the first play of their next possession, Matthew McGovern had one of his best runs of the season when he ran 35 yards, taking the ball down to the Webo 32-yard line. A few plays later, Payne ran it on the keeper for 16 yards and the score, giving the Warriors a 14-0 lead with 5:15 left in the first quarter.
Danville would eventually take a 21-0 lead before the Stars kept it respectable with a 64-yard toss from Young for the score. The point-after-try was missed so the score remained 21-6. The Warriors would quickly answer with a 34-yard pass from Payne to BJ Wuest just before the half to give Danville a 28-6 lead going into the locker room.
Danville controlled this game from start to finish and added another to the win column with a final score of 34-13.
Payne finished 19-23 for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns. Poppa ran the ball 17 times for 65 yards and two scores.
Next up for Danville is the regular season finale as they travel to North Montgomery. They drew Greencastle for the first round of the Sectional and will host them on Friday, October 22 at 7pm.
