There’s a news box in town!

The Republican is trying out one of its newspaper boxes in front of Dips Ice Cream Shope on the corner of South Washington and Marion streets in Danville. The first customer was Kent Devine, a retired printer from the Indianapolis Star. Once we determine how well the boxes work, others will be placed in other towns around the county.
Tox-AwayDays Begin

Spring cleaning underway at your house? Have hazardous household waste that has got to go?
The first Tox-Away Day for 2021 will be Saturday, April 17, at Brownsburg East Elementary, 1250 Airport Rd., Brownsburg, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hendricks Recycling District will host five Tox-Away Days in 2021. All Household Hazardous Waste (chemicals, auto fluids, fluorescent bulbs, rechargeable batteries, pesticides, herbicides, etc.) is accepted from households free of charge.
Fees are charged for the recycling of televisions, appliances and tires (over a certain number).
When you arrive at a Tox-Away event, stay in your vehicle. Volunteers will unload everything for you.
Please remember, latex paint should not be brought to Tox-Away Day for disposal. It is safe to dispose of with normal household trash once it’s been solidified.
The remainder of the 2021 Tox-Away Days scheduled will be:
• Saturday, May 22, Hendricks County Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main, Danville, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m..
• Saturday, July 17, Hickory Elementary School, 907 Avon Ave., Avon, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m..
• Saturday, August 28, Hendricks County Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main, Danville, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m..
• Saturday, October 9, Plainfield Middle School, 985 Longfellow Ln., Plainfield, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m..

Got a green thumb? Want to know how to get one? Hendricks County Master Gardeners will have free advice at Gardening for All Ages, Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Expo Hall on the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1900E. Main, Danville.

Gardening for All Ages Returns with Classes, Vendors
Hendricks County Master Gardeners will host Gardening for All Ages on Saturday, April 24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Expo Center at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds. Free classes will be offered in the connecting Conference- Center.
This free spring gardening show returns with free seeds, trees, gardening presentations, and gardening-related vendor booths.
This year, some modifications have been made for health safety: face coverings are required; there will be no children’s activities scheduled; there will not be a food vendor; and local capacity limitations will be adhered to.
Free gardening classes will be conducted in Conference Rooms 1 and 2, directly across the hall from the Extension Office. The schedule is:
10 a.m. - “Caring for Your Houseplants” with Colletta Kosiba, Master Gardener
11 a.m. - “Worms: How to Get Nature’s Recyclers Working for You” with Amy Sieferman, Hendricks Co. Recycling District Outread Coordinator.
1 p.m. - Beneficial Insects: Pollinators and Predators” with Bob Bruner, Owen Co. Extension Educator.
2 p.m. - “Pruning Ornamental Trees and Shrubs” with Nancy Rice, Master Gardener

One More Game Before ABA Finals

The ABA North Central Region Champion Indiana Lyons will have one more game at the Lyons Den, 49 N. Wayne St., Danville, before heading to St. Louis to battle for the National Championship. There will be an exhibition game this Saturday, April 10, Who’s the opponent? You’ll have to come to the game to find out! Doors open at 4 p.m., game starts at 5. Tickets are just $10/peson and $5/child or military service veteran. Donations will be accepted to help offset travel expenses to St. Louis and back. Come and show your support for Hendricks County’s only professional sports team as they prepare to win their first National Championship.
Weed Wrangle at McCloud

In celebration of Earth Day, give back by helping eradicate garlic mustard – a non-native invasive plant– from McCloud Nature Park! The event takes place Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring a water bottle and work gloves, dress for the weather, and wear long pants. Masks/face coverings are required when you can’t maintain safe distances from others. Recommended age: 10 through adult. Children younger than 16 must attend with a parent/guardian who is able to hike the trails. Children must be under the supervision at all times.

FEMA Issues Preliminary Flood Rate Map
The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a preliminary preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM), and where applicable, Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report,reflecting proposed flood hazard determinations within Hendricks County, Indiana and Incorporated Areas.
These flood hazard determinations are the basis for the floodplain management measures that your community is required to either adopt or show evidence of being already in effect in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
Before these determinations are effective forfloodplain management purposes, residents will be provided an opportunity to appeal the proposed information. For information on the statutory 90-day period provided for appeals, as well as a complete listing of the communities affected and the locations where copies of the FIRM are available for review, please visit FEMA’s website at https://www.floodmaps. fema.gov/fhm/BFE_Status/ bfe_main.asp, or call the FEMA Mapping and Insurance eXchange (FMIX) toll free at 1-877-FEMA MAP (1-877-336-2627).
Heavy Trash Day at Avon
The Town of Avon willhost Spring Heavy Trash Day on Saturday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will take place at 229 S. Gable Dr., Avon,in Gable Park, just behind Ashley Furniture. Everything is accepted EXCEPT TVs, computer monitors, batteries of any kind, paint, or any toxic materials. You must valid ID or mail proving Avon residence.

US 136 Closing for Repairs at CR 900 E
The Indiana Department of Transporation announces the US 136 railroad crossing in Brownsburg will closed while the CSX Railroad is restoring the tracks at CR 900 E.
The roadway is scheduled to reopen at 7 p.m. on Frriday, April 16.
The official detour follows Green St. to I-74 to Ronald Reagan Parkway to Connector Rd. and back.
INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
Jonah Fish Fry at North Salem
North Salem Fire & Rescue will host the Jonah Fish Fry on Saturday, April 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the North Salem Community Building.
Fish Dinner includes all-you-can-eat fish, 3 side dishes, 1 dessert and drink with free refills for $9.
